Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Missy...congratulations! That is something to still feel the same way. Really, we celebrated my b-day over the weekend, dinner & Sinbad Fri. night w/ dh and dinner with our daughter, her babysitter and her husband on Sat. And Sun. night dh made me a giant banana split. Yum, yum. And of course, I watched my beloved Kansas Jayhawks beat Missouri last night. I'm a turncoat -- born & bred Missourian (7th generation actually), but I went to Kansas. Rock chalk Jayhawk!

So fun to have other 86'rs. We'll have to tease my dh, the old man who graduated in 80.

I e-mailed Lord Sheffield abt 9/20, but haven't heard back yet.

Congratulations Missy! That is impressive! :worship: My dh and I have been together 16 yrs and married 12 1/2. Still been with my momma longer  , hopefully we will make it as long as you! He's a pretty good guy. I'll keep him around, hopefully, he feels the same way. He is an accountant, so I should be safe at least through April as he is never anywhere but WORK! :sad1: Then the fun starts. He is really good at making up for lost time :hourglass the other half of the year....we camp and travel a lot so it makes up for it (kindof)! :cool1:

I hope they pop back in and say hi again. If you can have some people to talk to from your sailing it makes the wait so much more bareable.
Trisha[/QUOTE]

Hello to all -- I check the boards often so I can see the countdown. Just
completed my taxes which will pay off the balance left on our cruise payment.
Hurray!!! While doing some tax filing, I found my receipt from our last Magic cruise, showed my wife and told her not to let this happen again. HA HA

I am still trying to get the rest of the family addicted to the disboards without
success so you will have to be my adopted family.

OK, surely I am not the youngest of our group. I am 30, will be 31 on the cruise. My DH will have his 38th b-day on the cruise. He graduated in '85.

jmcdonnell- Great to hear from you again! Do you have any plans for excursions yet? (Or anybody else, I love to hear your plans.)

Wendy- Happy belated b-day! I am still trying to get over turning 30. I'm not twenty-something anymore!

I am really excited about the sail with Lord Sheffield. I think my boys are going to love it. Does anyone know how many people they normally have on an average sail?
We have had cold and cloudy weather around here. I am so ready for Spring to get here. We are going to Destin, Fl. in May and I am really looking forward to laying on the beach in the warm sun. :sunny: I just keep thinking about that and the cruise to get me through these gloomy days.
Trisha

jmcdonnell...Welcome back. Thanks for popping in again! Great to hear from you. Where are you from?
Trisha...From what I have read, Lord Sheffield's has from 4 to 25 people, it just depends on how many show up (up to 25). It seemed from reading the other board, that sometimes it is not full at all and then other posts insinuate that it is becoming so popular it is selling out. So, what does that tell you? Nothing! Talked to Ike Witt this morning (called me from St Thomas...I could feel the turquios water and blowing breeze through the phone) and we are set. Just remind me to call two weeks before hand.
Wendy...tell your husband I said he is a big chicken  These are uncapsizeable (or so some of them say on the web site) and we are not traveling to India, just around the bay.....I is going to be fuuuunnn! He should face his fears  and go for it. Now if he goes, he will through me over right :earboy2: .

Oh yeah, and Trisha....you are so whining up the wrond tree if you want sympathy for turning thirty....tell it to the hand.... :teeth:

Heck, when I was 30 I still wasn't wearing a hat in the sun. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I'll work on the big chicken. I don't think I'll tell him what you said. He can be quite paranoid for a guy with a generally good sense of humor. I haven't heard back from Lord Sheffield yet. Did you call or e-mail them? I e-mailed.

My dh and I have been together since 97, our 6 yr wedding anniversary will be on the cruise. On the Lord Sheffield day! So...we're short timers. He's a train engineer and is currently working a job in Ohio, but has been home for 2 weeks. He leaves again on Friday for 30 days. So do I, but just for the weekend -- Santa Barbara. I'm very excited, I've never been there before and I hear it's really nice. Then back to the gloom as Trisha says. It's cold and overcast here today. I can't wait for spring. My kiddo needs some time outside!

Wendy- I e-mailed Rob with Lord Sheffield's and it only took him about a day or two to respond. He didn't ask for a credit card # or give any info about how to get to his boat so I guess I will e-mail him again when the time is closer. My husband and I are somewhat short timers also as our next anniversary in May will make 9 for us. Are you going to Santa Barbara for business or pleasure? I know, nosey huh! I used to live in Barstow, Ca. but I don't think it anything like Santa Barbara. Just a bunch of sand and tumbleweeds.

I am still going through all the info on the web about the DCL Cruises. There is so much out there. I thought RCI fans were intense but they don't have anything on DCL fans.
Trisha

Wendy, I was just kidding. No offense to him needed. You can tell him to look at how I spelled throw and then he can make fun of me too! Don't you hate it when you post and see that you made a spelling error or gramatical error. I always feel like such a dummy! Besides, I am irrationally terrified of SHARKS! Totally freaked out! I just try to ignore it (the fear). :scared: :faint:
NO offense! All smiles!

Trisha-have you been on a Disney cruise before? It's so awesome. I loved it and I had never really wanted to go on a cruise. I loved the sea days the best, but I've heard Castaway Cay is a hightlight. Jeanne prevented that, but we still had a blast.

I'm going to Santa Barbara on a business/pleasure mix. A law firm headquartered in LA that I use some is putting on a spa weekend for their women clients (after years of golf and hunting outings for the men, it's about time!) and I will also get some of my CLE credit taken care of (continuing legal education -- I'm an in house lawyer for a large corporation and to retain my license I have to have so many hours of continuing education every year). So...it's both. I'm very very excited.

Jen-I think my dh thinks I'm a geek for being on the disboards all the time, but he IS excited to meet people and have friends already when we get on the ship. Last year we sort of stuck to ourselves -- seems like we were so busy shuttling Phoebe from photos to autographs to the matinee shows, etc. This year we intend to be more social. It should help that we expect P to have dropped her nap by Sept. I have to say I really like that nap tho. In fact last Sunday I napped with her. Paradise. As the time gets closer we should consider doing Palo together or something. That way we could go more than once!

Beautiful snow showers here today, but I'm sure my babysitter is freaking out. Oh well.

Hi Jennat- The McDonnells are from Cincinnati suburbs. This is our second eastern
cruise so we are probably going to shop in St Marten so my DW can add to her tanzanite collection. For St Thomas, the catamaran ride, snorkeling, beach excursion
to St. Johns is looking good.

Go Bucks!!! The Ewings are from the suburbs of Columbus! Hope everyone else is doing well. I think we are going to hang loose at all ports! No pre-planning for us at all! We will probably just take a taxi and hit the beach at both stops...........can't wait!

Missy

The sun is shinning and beautiful here today. It is starting to warm up and on Saturday it is suppose to get up to 55 degrees. Woohoo, heatwave!

Wendy- I have not been on Disney yet, in fact none of us have even been to Disney World. My DH and I are just addicted to cruising and we thought a Disney cruise would be a great first cruise for our boys. I am really looking forward to Castaway Cay also. I have been to both of RCI private islands and I really loved them. Santa Barbara sounds like alot of fun. I am a full time mother so I don't know what it is like to have my employer send me to a great place like that. Before I had children I was a phlebotomist and the only place they ever sent me for CE was the basement conferance room. Not quite Santa Barbara! Meeting new people on the cruise is, for me, one of the best things about the trip (other than the beach, the sun, being waited on, all that stuff). We always meet great people to hang around with. And sometimes, if your lucky, you make great new friends like I did with Jen. The one thing I am going to miss about this cruise in not having new people at dinner.
Hope everyone is having a great day.
Trisha

Just switched from the 9/24/05 to the 9/17/05 sailing. Its me, dh, dd (8), ds (5) and meemom. We've got some friends coming too that we met on the cruise this past year (affected by mean jeanne). They'll probably post soon too! :cool1:

You were right on Tracy. I am posting, but you beat me to it.
Hi all, just cancelled our 9/24 because we felt bad for all of you on the 9/17 cruise. you seemed so all alone. Just joking. I am very excited to be going back on the Eastern. We did Antigua last year and St. Thomas. I am looking forward to St. Marteen. The ship must be getting pretty full because we couldn't get a room assignment for CAT 6. We are GTY status for now.

Oh forgot, it is me, DH, DD (7) and DS (3) but turning 4 on 9/28 crusing with all of you.

Okay I am sure more to come. For now, take care and start thinking about those excursions. I know we are... right Tracy?????

Karen

:wave2:

Welcome aboard! We were also hurricane Jeanne cruisers...........unfortunately the week after you got off! We got a 4 day (instead of 7)cruise...........a lot of run around.........and a 25% off voucher! Must not have been too bad, we comming back for more!!! I think it is a lot like child birth. Once we were on the boat, it was so great we forgot about the nightmare we had to go through to get there. :rotfl:

Glad to have you! Wow I am surprised to hear you aren't getting a room assignment for cat 6!

We are counting the days!

Okay I just read the entire thread and beginning to feel a little left out. Is there anyone besides Tracy on the East Coast? Glad to see we were not the only crazy ones to cruise the hurricane season before. This is my 3rd DCL experience. All in September... gotta love it.

I have not set up any excursions yet for this cruise. Just switched my dates today but I have been looking. I am thinking about going to the beach early at St. John Trunk Bay (?? is this right) and shopping in the afternoon in St. Thomas. Okay maybe shopping all day in St. Thomas. I have a 3 yo DS turning 4 the week after the cruise so my options are limited. Not sure what we are doing in S.M. I will have to look into the Lord Sheffield thing. I recall that it has to do with pirate ships? I am speaking blindly on that bc I have not researched it.

I am in VB VA and while you would think it is warm and sunny it isn't. It has been pretty cold in the low 30's. Not much snow like you all. It only takes an inch of snow or a frozen dusting for them to shut down the schools here. So I also prefer when it gets nasty that it happens on the weekend.

It has been great sharing in all of the excitement. Oh one more thing, I too have not purchased ins for the cruise. If I recall you have until approx 90 days prior to the cruise to get it. I think I will look into it.

Karen (I guess the second one right?) I will sign Karen D. Okay??

    (love them too)

Hey Tracy == need to fix your countdown to reflect the Eastern.... May the clock too, I don't know about that stuff... too technical for but the Western thing I am sure of. Love ya gal, talk to you Sunday.

Hi skycon (or is that Karen)?

We're on the same cruise and we are from the East Coast - from the foothills of NC!

This is also our 3rd Disney cruise - have never gone in Sept. though. It will be just DH and I - kids all grown. Can't wait to go!!

Hope to see you there!

Karen (too!)

Yeah! Welcome you guys. We are so excited to have you on board and on the roll call. We have a great bunnch but alas a small bunch. It will be great to have more that 4 (5..6) active posters. It makes the before hand excitement so much more fun (and it's great to meet new friends, too) I think the "pirate ship" is because it looks like the old pirate ships. I don't think (but could be wrong) they continue that experience on board. I'm not sure. But it is a sailing with a stop for beach and snorkeling. They have gotten fantastic reviews...so we thought we would try them out. You can walk the plank :earseek: , though.
It is so cool that you met on the cruise last year and are doing it again this year. It is fun that you can go on a vacation and meet friends for life! It is also fun to meet someone you can travel with....we know that no matter how good the friend, that doesn't mean you can travel together!!! Are you both from the east coast? Try being from the middle of the country. I never meet people from Colorado on board. Trisha did meet someone on the cruise critic board that is traveling a month after us (who asked Trisha to save the Navigators for her). She is from a mile away from me. I e-mailed and said hi. Apparently, we are the only ones who cruise from Colorado! :) . Anyway, once again, great to have you and good to hear from you too Karen (nursegardener)....Keep Posting!!!
