Can anyone who is a DVC member tell me if upgrades are possible at the terminal or do they not allow for DVC?

Thanks

Sarah - Do you you think it's worth adding the Pre Cruise meet at the Hard Rock to Noels welcome wagon?

Anyone interested in doing a ladies only Palo High Tea? I'm not sure how many we would need to do this but I guess the max is about 12-15? Anyone know for sure?

:rotfl: Hi,
have just booked this cruise & would love to be include in the Ladies Palo tea if at all possible,
many thanks,
sue

Hi, sorry I really don't know as I've never used my DVC points for cruising. Maybe you should ask on the DVC forums if this is possible?

Hi Sue, welcome aboard:wave:

I am sure there will be lots of us eagerly waiting to board! If we can get the go ahead with our T shirts then we should all wear them for boarding so we can easily identify our DIS friends. :thumbsup2

I never thought of that :thumbsup2 mind you I don't think DH and I would be travelling with them on, would need to stick them on once we have gone through check in :rotfl2:

We had to re-route last spring due to the ash cloud - ended up ditching our Aer Lingus flights through Dublin and flying Air Berlin through Dusseldorf.

Actually, this makes no real big difference when vulcano-spitting happens. For flights to Germany (and many other countries) from the US, you'll fly through Irish and UK airspace. Last year they rerouted some flight because of certain closed airspaces, but it has shown us that unless you'ld be flying on a Southern Europe airport it really has no big impact to fly into one or another Western European airport.

As far as the vulcano goes? I'm putting my money on never again a rerun of last year. The EU, European airfederation and national airfederations have learnned their lessons. Not in the least place; gouvernments have learned their lessons. The testflight that were performed by KLM and some of their partners will proof their value in this. Now they know what is actually going on in the sky rather than just closing airspace based upon theory. Now they can better predict how much ash is where in the sky and greatly reduce the airspace they'll find "unsafe".

I think you are absolutely correct. I think nothing of hoping in a car and driving for 8 or more hours to get somewhere. I do hate long flights though unless I fly first class. Since I am retired these days, hard to justify paying the almost $10K RT to fly to Europe. If I can upgrade on miles now that is a different story. What is sad though is first class is not like the first class of the 1970's and 80's.

Grin, that reminds me of a first time our Australian family casualy mentioning going to some friends with us for a cup of coffee. Oh, it's just an 5 hours drive. For a cup of coffee. Most folks down here would choke in their coffee when hearing how long the drive is. :rotfl2:

With the flying, it pays to check out many airlines, booked waaaaaaaaaaay in advance and fly in "off" periods. And combine different rates with eachother, for instance only flying upfront on the longhaul and not on the short flights when on connecting flights. It's still expensive, but I found it hugely cuts down on the prices that way. Last year I did my roundtrip AMS-MCO for about $3000,- in Continentals BF (could've done it cheaper, but I'm pretty darn loyal to CO).

Can't remember the name at the moment :headache: but there's a small "daughter" company of one of the large European legacy carrier that only carries out first class flights (so no eco in the plane at all!). They used to offer AMS-JFK but no more alas. As far as I know JFK-Paris is still being carried out and prices are good. Might be an option to combine with flying into JFK on another airline?

Bummer, Jacqueline! But I am still happy you were able to snag an accessible cabin on Magic, even though you had to go through several at DCL to get it! That irked me for you. You NEED the cabin for your wheelchair... yet how many people book an accessible cabin with zero medical need for one... just wanting extra space for selfish reasons... and YOU had to "go to bat" to get your's. :confused3 So glad you got one (and the rate you got!). :thumbsup2

Oh, don't sweat it. I don't. :) I'm used to expecting what might and might not be accessible and it all also comes down big time to what I myself want to invest in things. The more flexible I am, the more doable things are, afterall. It's not biggie, there is enough for me to enjoy. More than enough. I'm actually keeping the excursion you are planning in the back of my mind. Really would enjoy it, but realise at the moment it would not be doable with the duration of it. I'm crossing my fingers that by the time the cruise comes by I'm in a better place conditionally. If so, you might just find me deciding to be flexible and join on. When finding something to be "worth it enough" accessibility can always be dealt with. For instance using my manual chair on such an excursion and leave powerchair on the Magic. Knowing I'll have to climb aboard and most likely be (very) limited in range of motion aboard. So be it, no biggie when a tour is enjoyable enough.

The stateroom, yeah that irked me. I've never been annoyed by not being able to do GTY or only able to book certain cat. of stateroom. So be it. Just like needing to fly at least business as eco no longer fits my needs. Can happen, not all is perfect. But when a discount comes out for the same cat. , I am able to use it AND I already have an accessible stateroom, yeah it irks me that I would be out a lot of $$$ just because the wheels beneath my bum. Obviously somebody dropped the ball, as it was fixed within 5 minutes of me calling the spec. needs desk. C'est la vie.

Add me to the list, please.

As far as arranging goes; not sure what Palo can or wont do for a private group at high tea. I do know that we can link reservations and that way make a reservation for the groupsize ourselves online, just like you'ld make a reservation for just your stateroom (or some in the stateroom). I realised this after I had linked dining with another DIS-er on a previous cruise and going online to make our Palo ressies. I could make ressies for me and friend I was travelling with, but also add DIS-friend and her husband if desired. Allthough linking reservations would normally also link people together for the diningroom, not sure if that's the desired situation for all wanting to join the high tea. ;)

Mandy, I will check with Jeremy on this tonight and send you a PM.

Sounds great!

And by the way - if I don't answer PMs soon... just learned my aunt passed away from a brief but strong battle with a brain tumor we learned of at Christmas. About to travel home to my family, and will be gone several days. Internet is sketchy there.

I am very sorry to hear about your aunt. My sympathies and heartfelt sorrow are with your and your family during this difficult time.

Some possible, nay probable bad news. A member of a thread on another board gave a heads up.

September 10th is Gibraltar National Day, but the Monday 12th, when we are there is a day in lieu, so most probably Morrisons and other shops will be closed.

The lady is going to look into it and see if there is anything going on, festivals and the like. Perhaps an email off to the Tourist Board might be in order to actually find out. I would think the cable car etc would still be open as it is a tourist place though.

OH no .... NO MORRISSONS !!!! NO SHOPS !!!! That will indeed be a disaster.
Oh well, can't be helped I suppose if it is closed .. we will just have to fill up in Barcelona !!
I have emailed Morissons Customer Services to see if they can confirm whether the store is closed or open .. forewarned is forearmed and we can make alternative plans.

I've just sent an email off to the Tourist Board. I am thinking the touristy shops would be open as they wouldn't want to miss a cruise ship's business, but Morrisons is another thing altogether!! However in the UK Morrisons would be open for a few hours on a public holiday, but not sure over there.

How much booze can you take aboard in your carry-on? Just thinking if you had to get on the ship in Barcelona with it how many bottles you could take on.

I dont; think it will be possible to do it that way as we are linking tables already with other parties so it would mess that up. I will contact DCL to see how we can proceed with it. :)

Is this something organized by members or by DCL? Do we have to pay for it?

DCL do offer a High Tea on longer cruises, I have never done it but believe it is a minimal cost of $5 per person. I am going to try and organise it so that we can have either the private room if available or a large table to accomodate us DIS ladies. :goodvibes

Oh no that scuppers our loading up the empty suitcases idea! :rotfl2: Maybe we should all email Morrisons and they might open for us when they realise how much business they'll be losing out on. :lmao:

Please keep us informed what the Tourist Board say. :thumbsup2
