*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Speaking of jetlag...We've never travel overseas before...so I'm wondering what the 7 or 8 hr time difference from here in the Midwest is going to feel like...when we land in Barcelona Thursday morning at 9:15...our bodies are going to be saying its only 2 AM...LOL!!! Any of you experienced long distance travelers have any advice????

The best advice is to try & stay awake as long as possible - ideally bedtime in the new time zone, this really is tough especially as you land so early. If you can get straight in your room at the hotel then have a two hour nap but make sure you set an alarm and don't just sleep for several hours as you will then be awake all night!!!! Good luck!

We finally have one 6648.. Have no idea if that's good or bad - don't care! See you'll soon! Jean:yay:

I agree with what Josh said! Try to sleep on the plane. I have a routine that has worked well the last several times on transatlantic flights:
I eat BEFORE boarding, or buy a something to eat and will eat it as soon as I board before take-off. I take a 25 mg benadryl, put on my sleep mask and earplugs and use my neck pillow and try to sleep right away. I can usually manage 4-6 hours this way. If I stay up for the dinner they serve, which is usually at least an hour after take-off, then you get tempted to watch a movie like everyone else. Before you know it you are several hours into the flight. I wake up when breakfast is served, eat breakfast, freshen up, and am usually feeling pretty refreshed when I land. I often change clothes in the airport bathroom while waiting for luggage and enjoy a full day sightseeing. I drop off luggage at the hotel where I'm staying, and go right out. I found that I don't suffer jetlag this way. :goodvibes

I noticed I still don't show up on the cruiser list. Ah, well.

We head out Friday for our pre-cruise week at Disneyland Paris. See you all on board!

Hi Jacqueline:wave: so understand where you are coming from

For all those starting their travels - safe journeys everyone :)

Mandy - so pleased Curt is on the flight!

I'm another one that will be hanging around this thread chatting when we return, but don;t like thinking about that now;)

I noticed I still don't show up on the cruiser list. Ah, well.

you do now :) and instead of the cat 1 party, you'll have to join us all for a drinkies in the pub instead!

oh forgot to say - i wont be able to do a door magnet with my dis name as i've used up all the magnetic paper. but mine's the door with a lot of stitch on it, on the front part of deck 5

This has been an interesting experience for us GTY and location wise. This is the first time we will be on a deck with "stuff" and not just rooms. Any experience with the noise level here? Also we usually have better luck with upgrades in GTY than this time, but that is the risk and we still have a balcony, so worth it.

The movers are coming today to pack our stuff up to ship back to America. Going to be a long 2-3 days. ...

Amanda

The deck 5 hallways seem less crowded; they are dead ends, so people aren't using them as thoroughfares.

It was tiring enough just getting ready for this trip; can't imagine how tiring a complete packing will be.

Good luck on your move! Moving can be so stressful, but at least you have the vacation to look forward to. Are you sad to leave Macedonia?

We are mixed about leaving. There are a lot of inconveniences living here and it can be a pain in the butt to drive, but it is fairly inexpensive on a U.S. salary, the people are lovely and it has its charms. Coming back to America will be weird I think at first all shiny and new, but then it is Washington DC, so we will soon hate the traffic, the price of everything, and by then it may be time to move again, so who knows!

Today went well with the movers. They are coming back tomorrow. Got a lot done today, should be done by Friday. It is finally starting to seem real that we are leaving...

Lots of good advice already although I think it is going to be weird coming forward to so quickly go back...you will soon gain your jet lag back one hour at a time ;)

My hardest part is usually day 2, not the first day. I can keep going til about 8-9pm and sleep through the night. It is usually about 2pm the next day that I feel like crap. Depending on when you get in, that could be about the time you have a FAB and are sitting on the deck, so that would likely make it much easier.

It sounds like it's all going to plan....i'm stressed out over my packing for the cruise so I have no idea how you are coping!

Just catching up on posts and got really excited for the cruise :cool1:

Lovely hearing everyone's last minute preprations ill be on here chatting until we leave in the afternoon the 8th, it's exciting thinking some of us are leaving or about to. Good luck to all those flying standby!
Had some good news today my son had been having some slight health problems and we discovered he had low vitamin D along with a condition called Pigeon chest. He had to have several bloodtests and was very brave as he is terrified of needles. Well today the doctor concluded that his vitamin D levels have improved with supplements and there is no need for further blood tests.
Back to school for my younger 2 boys next week (eldest is home educated) which gives me chance to get organised as im off work from the day before. Both are starting new schools one primary, one secondary so its a very exciting nervous time for them.

I can make you one if you like. I haven't made my magnets yet and have lots of paper.

A question for my American friends, especially anyone in Orlando.

How easy are white iPad 2's to get hold off in the Apple stores? Are they readily available or are they still selling out as soon as a batch comes in?

Hubby has finally caved in and said I can get one. :cool1: I am hoping to go straight to the Mall when we get off the ship, shame I can't have it for the two weeks on the ship but never mind i'll have to wait!

Not from the US but. Have you thought of ordering it online through something like Walmart, they deliver it to the store of your choice and you have 21 days to collect.
