This is Hazel just so you know who's opinion this is lol.

I have been a professional childcarer for 17 years now working with pre school aged and below, also have done a lot of guidance in the styles of super nanny and nanny 911.

My observations are that parenting techniques have drastically changed over the years with it all becoming a little to child led in my opinion.

Its the simple things that have become neglected which creates a bigger picture of our youths having very little respect for anyone except their peers and themselves. Let me give a few examples.... Your talking to a friend and your child interupts, instead of saying "I'm talking sweetie wait a moment" you cut short your chat and focus on the child. Your baby wakes and you go right in instead of waiting a few minutes, your child wont eat dinner so you make something else.

The first point shows them respect, the second teaches patience and the third shows sometimes there isn't another option.

Kids are special yes! But so are you! So is your partner! And so is everyone else.
Parents need to turn back the clocks a little so our future generations learn to respect their elders, respect authority, respect society and respect themselves.
Teach them to earn a reward, that stamping feet and screaming doesnt get what you want and that PLEASE and THANKYOU cost you nothing but gets you a lot.

These trouble makers in the UK right now are showing no respect and if it's because they want jobs well a criminal record isn't going to help!

I hope I havnt offended anyone.

Hazel

QUOTE=m_kasch;42197680]For my flight, I have a 8.5 hour layover in London...i've never flown internationally before, does anyone know if they will check my bag through to BCN? It was booked as one flight, and both legs are on British Airways.

Also, anyone that's done a TA before...how is the cell service on the crossing? Will I be able to get a text? My sister is going to find out if she is pregnant sometime AFTER we leave Madeira (of course) and I really, really can't wait to find out!! If texting won't work, what would you suggest as the best way for a quick yes or no...maybe email? :goodvibes

I can't believe in one month, we will be sailing!!! :yay:

Double check with BA when you check in for your flight in Chicago. I think you will not have to claim and re-check. As far as cell phone service after leaving the port...............There is none:eek:. You should have her send you an email because there will be no text service either. There are no towers for cell phone service to connect through on the ocean. You can get an Internet package onboard and either use their computers:surfweb: or if you are taking a laptop you can use the wifi connection in the area of the Internet Cafe.

Hope that helps and you MUST share the news with us.:banana::banana:

I know I did and not to pat myself on the back :laughing: but I taught mine and they have and are teaching theirs.:cloud9:

What about the cellular at sea? I thought they turned that on once you leave port...I just wasn't sure how far away from land it works. I'm pretty sure it worked on our sea day on the Dream, saw some people with their phones...but not sure about the middle of the ocean. I may just have to have her email me...but I will be addicted to my phone that day!! :goodvibes

Actually, DCL subscribes to the "Celluar at Sea" service which is basically a satellite link up to cell service. However, it is very expensive (several dollars per minute I believe) and is in addition to whatever charges you cell phone provider charges. You do need to be sure your cell provider also participates in the service.

I felt I must say a public thank you to all the 'posters' who have been so helpful to a newbe like me. I, personally, have dealt with Noel, Josh, AuntLynn, Karen, Cliffy97 (whomever you may be), Pinky 166 (ditto)and so many others whos names I can't remember. It is our first Disney cruise experience but all that you have done makes it the best pre-cruise experience we have ever had! Thanks to all! Charlie and Jean

Thanks, good to know. On the other TA I was on they did not have that option. Or maybe they did and it was so costly I blocked it from my mind. :lmao::lmao:

I agree that the communication is challenging once you start across the pond...

I did get a few random texts out there on the Atlantic...but who knows when they were sent! :rotfl2:

I should mention too though that for about 5 or 6 days, the Internet was almost non-existent too....sorry! :sad2: Most people were getting extensions of minutes and/or money back in May.

But have them try a text first, then email as a backup. With Verizon, it's 5¢ to receive (50$ to send), phone charges are $2.89 per min., and i don't remember a roaming charge on top of that actually, but there could have been (?)

I'm going without my family so I'm getting an internet plan and will text...it works pretty well for the first few ports & then again in the Caribbean....just has a big blank spot over the Atlantic crossing.

I'm a police officer in Bradford, west yorkshire.

Just got in after a 13 hour shift on a 'day off' dressed in full riot kit, firstly dealing with football hooligans and then rioting idiots.

Well just time for a quick beer before bed and see if I get the call tomorrow to do the same again.

Paul

Stay safe. My wife and I are both former law enforcement and we wish you the best from across the pond.

RECEIVED our cruise documents!!!!! Really excited. But, I am learning to not like the three little letters....GTY!!!!:cool1:
