I apologize again for being offline the past two weeks, but there's only so much you can do with a cell phone when you spend part of your vacation in a tent with no electricity and no cell phone service in the Rocky Mountains!! ;) No laptop, ipad, etc.

Welcome back, Mandy! I'll bet that first shower felt goooooood! :thumbsup2

Wanted to share with everyone a great place to buy wine and water and even health and beauty aids in Barcelona if it hasn't been mentioned before. Last year we stayed at Silken Ramblas right around the corner from the Carrefour and the Bouqueria on les Ramblas. The water was ridiculously cheap! We bought a 6 pack of 1.5 liter bottles of water for 1.27 euros (that's 21 cents a bottle) :scared1: It was really good too. Just be careful to get still water. They love fizzy water there. We also bought Cava Champagne which is a specialty in Barcelona. We bought 3 small bottles (about 3 glasses each) for 3 euros total. The Cava is delicous. It came in handy as one of the people at our table was celebrating his birthday and he was very touched when we wrapped it up and gave it to him. A few of the other bottles we used one night to share with the other 14 people at our table. :rotfl: Anyway, we frequented the Carrefour for the 3 days we were there before the cruise. I remember when they were in the states and loved the store. It was fun revisiting it, especially for their croissants! It's like 10 of them for a little over a euro. They had an extensive array of food and beverages. We loaded up on drinks and brought them on the cruise with us. ;)

YEP!! I have joked that the very first thing we did after checking into the condo in Winter Park was get naked.... and not for fun stuff, but for a SHOWER! Then we went out to eat at a restaurant that had tables, waiters, and adult beverages! Big time!! :)

Then last night after getting home from travel, I had to have a shower in my OWN shower LOL. My bed felt sooooo good! :thumbsup2

Okay: When I left for vacation, we were still on thread four. Now we are almost 100 pages into thread five. I tried looking at DIS on my cell phone here and there when we had cell coverage, but must say I am very grateful for AuntLynne's recaps!!!!!! :worship:

Currency: I tried calling Curt to tell him about getting dineros ahead of time, but he says we'll wait. :confused3

Safety: So what about sticking money and credit cards in your bra? (Don't laugh...) I know I wear cargo pants a lot, especially for travel, but what about a neck wallet or using a sports bra? (I know... will look like I am doing inappropriate things getting money out, but heck, I'm still breastfeeding, so what's the difference....)

New Cruisers: WELCOME!!! We're Curt & Mandy traveling with our soon-to-be five year old and 15 month old. First Disney Cruise, first TransAtlantic, first cruise with the kiddos.... but other than that we have eight other 7-nighters under our belt on HAL, Celebrity, and NCL. Looking forward to meeting everyone and experiencing this cruise!!

Jacqueline: If you are still following the thread, I am so sorry you had to cancel. My heart goes out to you.

Trip: The low was in the 40s with a windchill of 36 at one point (Farenheit). Came home to Texas in a heat wave of 25+ days of 100+ degree weather that feels like a sauna. The Rocky Mountains were spectacular, as it was my first trip west of Denver. Fourteen nights, part of which was a church mission trip. The first six nights included Curt, the last eight were just me and the girls. Several days we were completely off the grid with no cell access and some days with no electricity. I did not touch a computer in 14+ days. It felt weird typing on the laptop when getting home!

Packing Cubes: I totally swear by them now. The last eight nights were three girls packed in two backpacks utilizing packing cubes. Did not do laundry those eight nights, and yes, we wore clean underwear everyday. ;)

GtY Rooms: So glad y'all kept us updated. I didn't bother checking our reservation to see if they had been assigned. (Watch my cabin have already been assigned....)

Anyway, I'm super glad to be home, and thankful for the trip we just had. We chose to tent camp to save money... can't beat twenty bucks a night, although showers and electricity would have been nice. Now back to looking at my work schedule, getting my tutoring students ready for school (and me being gone!), and that thing called laundry.... :headache:

Five weeks and a couple days until we begin this next venture! :dance3:

The Pamplona thing reminded me of a funny story. It is kind of long..

That is just hilarious...poor stupid Todd :sad2:. I was waiting for you to say he was gored, but...crowd surfing? :confused3

Yes, we are a very busy bunch; I'm still thinking there will be a thread six :thumbsup2. Nice to see new people joining fairly regularly, too.

Hard to say what will happen with the dollar; Europe is dealing with its own issues, so who knows about the euro, either. Regardless, I doubt we'll see much fluctuation between now and the time we sail (I hope!).

I just found a container full of foreign money (mostly coins) which has been collected over the years....most of which isn't even valid anymore. I'll have to look closer to see if there are any BPs. I did find a few Gibraltar pounds in the left-overs from last years EB...better use them while I'm there. I can just see myself asking some poor vendor to break the price down for GibP, BP, and euro in one purchase, just so I can dump my extras. Would that be incredibly annoying tourist behavior?

My DM plans to use just her around-the-neck satin pouch, even though I offered to pick up a Pacsafe bag for her. I'm sure any pickpockets will be so distracted by your "inappropriate" hand movements ;), they'll forget to try anything, but it's safe to say that you would probably notice if they tried to pick the "girls"! :rotfl2:

Glad you had such a great trip. Kudos to you for "roughing it" with the little ones and no Curt :worship:.

Did you buy the water and cava at La Boqueria or Carrefour? And is Carrefour on the Ramblas? Sounds like the place to go!

I'm looking forward to wandering through La Boqueria. I love markets like that. I must have an espresso con leche! Even a bad one will beat the swill that passes for coffee around here. And I dare anyone to try huevos del toro. (Go ahead, Google it. ;) )

That was my question, too, groceria o mercado for those prices.

Oh, I think I know what those eggs are - sort of like Rocky Mountain oysters?

For all of you who have helped me with my issue with trying to print the cruise logo - thanks. Thanks to you all, I learned that I just have to click and drag an image to get it on my computer, which is super cool to know. :cool1:

But ultimately I decided to go another route with my FE's so I no longer need to print out the logo.

So I am trough more than 15 pages, because I wasn't on the forum for a couple of days. But I am back.
My father is passed away this week. Nothing dramatic. It was a releave, because he had very much pain. He was 88 years old and broke his hip and shoulder a couple of weeks ago. And after an operation, a new hip. But they couldn't do anything on the shoulder. And he was dementing too.
My sister en me have made all the arangements for the funeral so now I have some time for the forum. I can now focus on the cruise.

And ......no still no cabin assignements.
I am so sorry that Jacqueline doesn't go with us.
And thanks Auntlynne for the recap.
And flubber making I like it.
6 weeks and we go...it comes closer and closer.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Our condolences to you and your family.

What a fun week it has been :). Picked up euros/pounds at AAA this week; rate was as good as or better than what I found online, so I'm very satisfied. I picked up something I needed for my FE gifts but was having a hard time locating. Found a more reasonably priced van service for getting from the Barca hotel to the port (38 euro for the five of us, and I don't have to worry about finding taxis that day). Check, check, check.

Would you be willing to share the site of that van service. There are five or us and we figured we'd have to do 2 taxis.

Heather,

I used to live in PA where my friends and I all hated to wear anything sleeveless--we all thought our arms were unattractive. Now I live in Florida. Amazing what heat and humidity will do to your concept of how you look! I wear tank tops most of the time now, and my dresses are mostly sleeveless. I think it's great that you purchased some cover-up things, but I hope you won't wear them unless you are chilly in the air conditioning. Bare arms for all!

Karen

I'm with you. We live in a hot humid area and I wear sleeveless all summer!

We just had a really heavy soaking rain and thunderstorm - first rain in two weeks or more! Luckily it has tempered the heat a bit today - it's the first time it has been under 80 degrees in I don't know how long!

If it's any consolation the rain here in Ireland has rarely left us this Summer. I know it's what make's the land so green but it would be nice to remember what the Sun and heat feels like.:)

yeah it seems like we haven't had any summer here in essex yet either.....

well it can rain all it wants in september in ireland and essex, as long as it's dry over the atlantic :)

is anyone else having trouble logging into the DCL website? i keep getting a "page not found - 404 error" code?

just tried to make a booking (to see if thats working) and seems the website is down for maintenance. they're really teasing us now aren't they?!?!?

Well we already have out room no even if it IS on deck 1.

Looking out at the marine life from under the water line???????????

Anyway, best wishes for those awaiting assignment and hopefully theres enough pixie dust to go around :wizard::boat::sail:

i hope they fill the ship with enough fuel, otherwise they'll be giving you a swimming float and telling you to kick if you're down in the bowels of the ship!

Started working on t-shirts and magnets today. I leave in a month. :scared1: So not ready.

Found this great pirate graphic:
