NEW CRUISERS

TheViking

"We're going without the kids (me and my wife, both 37) - my wife is the Disney nut of the family, so as we talked about doing a trans-atlantic cruise, and I came across this one, she told me to just stop looking and book it, so I did.

It will be our third cruise, but first trans-atlantic and first on Disney. We booked a guaranteed verandah for this cruise, and are spending 2 nights in Barcelona before the cruise...."We are Heather and Erik, and we live in Minnesota. Our kids are 15,13 and 10, but won't be joining us for this trip."

She and DH are from the Twin Cities, MN. New to DISboards, too.

FANTASTIC recap! This is the first I have had the pleasure if experiencing! I loved it!!! Thank you so much.

Secondly, to clarify, TheViking is my husband. I have yet to do a formal intro but I think Erik (TheViking) did a great job letting you know who we are. I'm having a blast getting to know all of you through your posts. The cruise is going to be so fun!!! I. CAN. NOT. WAIT!!!!

I prepaid the tour to Daniel Taxi on Paypal as a "gift" so for two it was 60 Euros. However, you can pay that day with a credit card.

We take the cable car one way only one way as we take the toboggan to where the driver will pick you up to continue the tour. I paid for the cable car and the toboggan rides in Euros and site for cable cars does not indicate if they take credit cards. If you want, I can email Daniel Taxi to ask. Please let me know.

Cable car

No, that is good enough for now. I just needed a rough estimate of how many Euros I would need for the day. I will pay for the tour by credit card on the day of and the rest on the day of with Euros. You have been extremely helpful, as always. Thanks, have a good night. I am leaving work now.

Hi Noel,

We will be purchasing our alcohol in Gibraltar. We were thinking of buying a bottle of rum, bottle of crown (or equiv) and a bottle of scotch (JW black or one of the Glens). (Wine will be bought in Barca and Madeira.) We are planning on getting 60 GBP for these items and buying them at Morrisons. Do you think this will be enough? And also will the VAT refund program mentioned in the weekly recap be worth the hassle? (it states that the min purchase in GB is 30 GBP and the VAT is 20%). Sorry for all of the questions, just dont want to run out of money or buy to much of it.

Thanks,

What's crown? Bottle of rum will be about £10-15, whisky will be about £20-30 depending on what you get. If that's the only thing you'll be getting in Gibraltar you should be ok but you might want to get a little more

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy rum in the Caribbean ???? I am sure it would be a lot less than £10 - £15 over there :confused3:confused3

Thanks,

I am not sure what the costs of JW Black or the Glens is at Morrisons but you might want to check their ad or email them. I spent about 50 GBPs just in Morrisons.

Morrisons

I didn't use the VAT refund program so I am not sure if it is worth it. Perhaps someone will have do so and be able to advise you.

I know there is someone here on the thread who lived in Gibraltar and perhaps he will post an answer.

Do you mind me asking what you were able to purchase for 50GBP at Morrisons?
Thanks,

We hopped a lot while in Okinawa from 79-82, mostly to PI and Korea; but went back last year and hopped from Korea to Oki to Yakota to Singapore back to Oki and Korea. Flew commercial from CONUS to Seoul and back. Future plans (or dreams) include Hawaii (we were stationed there 82-85), Australia and Alaska; we'll see. I got new knees this year and now I'm "ready to go." Ha!

Are you a Marine? DH and I were both assigned to the FMF for part of our career - he was an Active Duty Navy Dentist and I was a Navy nurse in the reserves. Loved the green side! :thumbsup2 Back in 1991-94 when we were stationed at El Toro MCAS in California, there were regular hops to Hawaii from LAX chartered - Tiger Airlines or something like that. We have stayed at the Halle Koa in Waikiki a few times, but our favorite place is the Kilauea Military Recreation Center in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Very rustic cabins and what a location! :cloud9: We've hopped on charters, DC-9's, C-5's, C-130's, KC 10 tankers. Another 8 years and we can start hopping again!

Thank you!! I guess if 60 is not enough, I can use some of the euros to buy anything over.

You are welcome!! You can always use a debit or credit card there as well as remember it is owned by Safeway!

By the way, I love San Diego. Youngest DD went to USD.

Air Force. We stayed at KMC too and it was great. If after you can hop again and go back to Oahu you must try Bellows AFS. It's an on the beach military resort on the windward side. Much of Magnum PI was filmed there. http://bellowsafs.com/Default.asp. DW and I both are retired AF. I know you're looking forward to the hopping again. We went back to Hawaii in 1993 and took a cruise and saw more in 7 days than we did in 3 years. I didn't even know humpbacks migrated there until the cruise. We will all have to get together and share stories. We are so looking forward to the cruise. We did the EBTA last year and back to back med cruise and we're looking at a possible Med cruise to precede the WBTA back home. It's Barcelona, Sicily, Malta, Sardinia, Italy, Greece, Mallorca, and Croatia back to Barcelona on Sept 8; but not in that order.

Christina; deleted my post on page one. Thanks for raming over and making it so easy.

You guys rock, appreciate the support. Cant remember who asked, but having op one week earlier? Would've been big difference, but dehydration did me in combined with a slow recovery and that failed try. As that was one of many medical mistakes, it probably wouldnt have made it any way. Im mad and sad, but it is as it is.

Lynne; Palo brunch and just loungeing on deck with the kindle were my main thing. So enjoy those. :) shame I cant give the ladies mickey earrings as the FE gift. Was psyched about that.

Sorry to be so selfcentered, be more normal soon. :)

Jacqueline, vent all you want, we all know how special these trips are and after all the planning to have to cancel would certainly be a great disappointment.

Please keep in touch as we would all like to know how your health is progressing and hopefully someday soon we will finally meet in person.

Burnice

Great to know about the Safeway thing.

We really live in Temecula but both work in SD so we claim it as our home since most people do not know where Temecula is. LOL USD is a great school.
