I was wondering if anyone had any plans to do a small memorial for the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

It will be the first 'at sea' day of the cruise, and DH and I are thinking of doing something.... even if it's a moment of silence or a group hand-holding or something.

I don't want to have everyone think that this is a 'downer' event for the cruise- we just don't ever want to forget, and hope that there are others that feel the same way.

If you do, and don't want to be 'public' with your memories- that's fine. I just wanted to find out if there would be any interest.

Thanks again for all of the hard work of everyone here to make this the BEST cruise ever!!

I've been thinking about that a lot too. I would really like to see some coverage of any memorial services on TV. Do you think that will be possible? Of course, when I get there and I'm actually on the first sea day of the cruise, I may decide I don't want to watch it, but I think if I don't spend at least part of the day doing something like that I will regret it later. I can't believe it has been 10 years, I still remember that morning so clearly...

The Broadway stage version of The Lion King is in Ottawa at the moment, for the first time. We went last night and it was awesome  Loved all of the costumes and props and the cast gave a brilliant performance :thumbsup2

One of my all time favorite shows! It was the first I saw on broadway and many of the others pale in comparison!

So I saw something on general forum about VAT taxes. I am somewhat familiar with them having traveled in Europe before, but my question is, will we be charged a VAT tax on the whole TA, or just until we get past Gibraltar? Or Madeira? Because apparently it is charged to Palo and any gifts you buy, and my Palo dinner isn't until the 19th (not sure yet when we'll be getting brunch assigned). I can hopefully wait to buy any souvenirs on the ship. I know you can get some of it back as a US citizen, but in all my travels to Europe I have never bothered, just didn't seem worth the hassle.

Also, I don't THINK I am going to get any of the photos since they are so pricey, and usually on cruises I don't, because I prefer more candid than posed pix, but I've heard DCL does an especially good job. If I just can't live without the pix they take, can I buy the CD at the end, or is that something you have to commit to upfront? This may also help me avoid the VAT tax.

I think that's a very good idea... Hmmm. I wonder if DCL can do anything like blow the horn a couple times or something. It is kind of a big deal and I think there will be many Americans on the cruise. Maybe could could stand in solidarity as we play the national anthem. I don't know what but I do really like your idea!

Yesterday was interesting...we drove to the Orlando Premium Outlets on International Drive and to the Disney outlet there. The outlet was awesome w/ lots of cool things and DCL stuff too, but getting there and finding parking was a bit of a nightmare - I don't think we'll ever visit those outlets on a Saturday in summer vacation time again, it was just a total zoo.

Anyhow, I got a new shirt and some other things and then we raced to get to Cape May for our dinner (traffic held us up a bit.) We got there and ate & then walked into Epcot. Went to Living Seas pavillion and looked at the aquariums - especially the dolphin one! - then we rode Spaceship Earth and walked World Showcase. Got the best refresher ever - a strawberry oolong frozen tea in China and then walked out of Epcot and back to Beach Club to drive home.

Unfortunately, there was a huge accident that closed the freeway just past Tampa, so we were delayed about an hour and didn't make it home until midnight. But still it was a really nice day!

I am really looking forward to less crowding at Disney though, I can't wait until summer is over!

Hi Liz, look forward to hearing what you think of Cape May Clam Bake. We have an ADR in September.

Have fun:goodvibes

Yesterday was our 4th time there I think. We discovered it last year and due to the snow crab legs, we fell in love. There just isn't anywhere in our city that does an all-you-can-eat crab legs thing so it is a treat.

It was more busy yesterday that I have ever seen it, and I prefer it when its less crowded so there aren't really any lines, but it was still good. I think I'll wait until busy season is over before we return though.

The crab is good, the mussels and shrimp/calamari are very good. I always start with a few of the salads which I like and also have one of the parker house rolls. Then for dessert its oreo bonbons for me!

If you like steamed seafood it is a great place to go. If you aren't a huge seafood fan, there are things there for you to have, but ther are other buffets that might be better for you. :thumbsup2

Just got back from Hobby Lobby and purchased a few neccessities for the cruise: a pink boa, a mask for Villains tonight, and paint, feathers, sequins, etc to fix it up! DD 15 is very crafty and will help me with it (or just make it for me! She's also lending me her tiara!) I also have been cleaning out my closet this week getting rid of larger sized clothes and found several really cute Disney apparel for the cruise that I forgot I owned - a cute white terry cover up with hood, a sequined Minnie zip up sweatshirt jacket, a pink DCL pirate shirt with sequins, a cute black and white tank dress with a Mickey profile on it, all XL or XXL. I'm wearing a L these days and hoping to be in a med by Christmas but it was like Christmas in my closet! :rotfl::rotfl: So I think alot of my wardrobe is going to be Disney! I do need a smaller bathing suit so may as well go Disney, right?:thumbsup2

Congrats on your weight loss Taina! When you're cleaning out your closet, don't throw things out - put them on ebay!! Its unbelievable how much money you can make from used clothes on there.

That is so nice that you have a husband who indulges your Disney love.

I indulge his Disney love! LOL We are lucky that Disney is something we both enjoy & share together. :lovestruc

I had to call and ask DCL about something, so I also asked them if they had anything special planned for 9/11. She said that they have it down as "Patriot's Day" and there will be something to commemorate it, although she is not sure what exactly. She did say they have live news stations and we could probably watch a memorial service (I believe she said in Promenade Lounge or maybe Cove Cafe).

It looks like the memorial service at Ground Zero will start early so as to mark a moment of silence for when the first planes hit. With the time change that should be right after lunch on the ship.

There are multiple TVs in Diversions with plenty of seating, if you wish to be with others. That might be a good place for us to gather.

You can purchase your pics and DVD at the end of the cruise.

Sorry if this has been covered. I know how the formal nights are, but how do people feel about Jeans at dinner on Casual nights.

I know this is also a hot topic on many of the boards I follow. Personally I prefer jeans over khakis, but just wondering what others are planning on doing.

Also from a packing perspective makes it a bit easier for 14 days. I do not see anything specifically from DCL.

Thoughts?

Well, jeans in the dining room can be a hot topic on the cruise boards, so hopefully it will be discussed in a friendly manner on this thread since we're all friends here. :goodvibes

DCL says that casual means "no shorts, swimwear or tank tops," so jeans are fine on casual nights in the main dining room (fyi-you can't wear jeans to Palo.)

Personally, we don't wear jeans in the dining room, but that's just how we roll.

Its not part of the rules, but my opinion is that as long as your jeans are in decent condition and you don't look sloppy, you're good!:thumbsup2

Welcome back Margaret!!! I've been wondering where you were.

Just take your packing in stages, you don't have to do it all in one day so take your time. I find making a list really helps. As for getting your holiday mojo back, how's this for inspiration?

We saw it years ago in Scheveningen. I loved it. Did the animals came through the path in the public? I found that very impressive giraffe, elephant and more just in front of you.

Hi Michelle

We've eaten twice at the Cape May Clam Bake - the first time was many years ago, the second was in March. We enjoyed it and thought it was good for a buffet. It was very busy the second time we dined there, probably due to the fact that Disney now offers the dining plan and as buffets are usually the most expensive option, a lot of people choose them. That being said, we were sat almost immediately, the buffet was replenished frequently and the server also refreshed drinks on a regular basis. :)

We didn't have such a good experience at Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge - they forgot that we had checked in for our "reservation" and only remembered to seat us almost 45 mins later after I went and asked why other groups of 2 were being seated when they arrived much later than us. The server was also clearly frazzled and was having difficulty coping with all of the tables assigned to him. There were long line ups for food at some stations, no signs or chefs on hand to describe some of the dishes and the tables were extremely close to each other. In all honestly, it felt like being in a zoo and we will definitely not return there again, which is a shame as we had eaten there shortly after it had opened and had an awesome meal on that occasion, but that was pre-Disney Dining plan.

It was with trepidation that we went to Ohana's the following night, but our experience there was the complete opposite - awesome food and attentive service (this is where you can eat as much as you like, but the servers bring the food to you). We plan on eating here again when next in WDW. :)

We have ADR on all three restaurants in september when we ar in WDW after the cruise. I think we liked it, as I read your reviews. I am a seafood lover, my son not. But I think he must tri the crab legs. And we also lookin forward to Boma (I hope that we have a better time) and Ohana.

I like jeans also more than khaki. Paul has jeans in different collours and he is looking good in it.
I am not sure what the pollicy is on jeans. I like to hear.

We fully intend on wearing (nice) jeans on the casual nights, either with polos or button down shirts and nice shoes (the same black ones we would be wearing with our suits on formal nights).

Ditto. I don't own any jeans myself, but they are allowed for "cruise casual" venues on DCL.

It's the shirt that really matters in the MDR - you spend < 30 seconds walking through to your table, then what do we see for the next 2 hours? Your shirt.

When the jeans are more noticeable is the time between the 2 dinner seatings when people are walking about the ship - and yet, it still is the shirt/top that makes the difference.

I've pretty much punted bringing a long dress for formal wear - will wear cocktail attire for such - as that 20 kg limit on easyJet from Paris to BCN is going to limit my packing.

I am bringing a pair of black jeans but will also do Khakis. I agree with the post on how you pair with a shirt and shoes which determines the look. So far it sounds like many will have on jeans for casual night. At the very least there will be several people that have your back!!

Cheers.
