Auntlynne, that is the one!!! I love it so! :rotfl: I can't wait to use it on vacation. I worry about it's size though, it might be too small. ;)

That is a lovely suitcase. I would be too worried that it would get dirty. (just the OCD --obsessive compulsive d/o :rotfl:--in me coming out again. I've seen in Barcelona airport that they offer shrink wrapping the suitcase before check-in of luggage. With this idea, I would shrink wrap this lovely piece of luggage at home before arriving to the airport to keep it looking clean & new, so that when you receive your luggage after you've flown it looks just as lovely. Those airline baggage handlers are not gentle and there is alot of areas our suitcases come across from the time we check in until we pick up our luggage.
When I saw the shrink wrapping of luggage at the BCL airport, I thought to myself, Hmmm...interesting. Would I do that? Then I saw people lined up for this service, and the finished product, thinking conclusively, interesting if you have nice luggage.

nancy, i'm arranging a minibus hire from the airport to the port at about 11.45am on departure day. cost will be 10 euros each. let me know if you're interested, got two spaces left

thank you Karen. Yes, we would need the last 2 spots if we could make it. Which terminal will you be meeting at (I understand there are 3 terminals or something like that). I paid for DCL transfer at time of booking this cruise and have to call them to see if I can cancel. I had to finalize my flights and having done so, now I know we arrive at 11:05. Would this be ok or too late for the minibus because we would still have to gather our luggage, and then go to the meeting point? I don't know which terminal we arrive at yet as well.

Based on the taxi fare/km quoted on Barcelina Tourist Guide,

If you did a regular taxi, it would be approximately:

jump in the taxi = 1.80 euros
mileage 4 km x 1.15 euro/km = 4.50
cruise port destination surplus = 2.10
waiting in traffic ~ 12 min = 3.76 euros

12.16 euros per taxi x 2 taxis = 24.16

+ 1 euro per bag in trunk x 5 bags = + 5 euros

29.16 euros for 2 taxis from Pl. Catalunya to cruise terminal - You might be better off with 2 taxis than pre-arranged

I am basing this on the port location being the same as last year (see map below).

Got these numbers from http://www.worldtaximeter.com/barcelona (with mileage from google)

(20 euros added if starts/ends at airport)

This might be a better option; I received a quote from another van service for 58.09 euro for the five of us. Thanks for the info :goodvibes

You guys rock, appreciate the support. Cant remember who asked, but having op one week earlier? Would've been big difference, but dehydration did me in combined with a slow recovery and that failed try. As that was one of many medical mistakes, it probably wouldnt have made it any way. Im mad and sad, but it is as it is.
Lynne; Palo brunch and just loungeing on deck with the kindle were my main thing. So enjoy those. :) shame I cant give the ladies mickey earrings as the FE gift. Was psyched about that.
Sorry to be so selfcentered, be more normal soon. :)

Nothing self-centered about it. You've been through a very difficult procedure and unexpected outcome, so you have a right to be angry and disappointed. We'll be thinking of you (and we would have loved those earrings, I'm sure!) Plan another vacation and just concentrate on getting stronger . Your continuing good health is more important than any cruise will ever be.:flower3:

I thought "angry American" would make me more of a target. I was planning on using my "polite Canadian" persona.

:thumbsup2 Sorry, maybe too tongue-in-cheek, since no one knows yet that we are the farthest things from angry anything! I only meant to walk "purposefully" with a "don't bother me" look, not like a passive victim wearing that sign! ;) Of course, we all want to use our very best manners and NEVER be the "ugly American". Those types of tourists make me cringe :headache:. So, I'll be using my very best "polite American" persona....but while dragging my suitcase across the plaza, I'll also be wearing my very best "Back off, buster" expression.

either that or dress up as a flamenco dancer or bullfighter and you should be ok ;)

This is an even better suggestion! Being Pooh shaped, I would definitely be the bullfighter :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:!

Isn't it just fabulous that we're worrying about transportation in Barcelona? Such a nice distraction from everyday life.

you and disneynut64 both arrive at 11am, i've PM'd cindy to ask her what terminal (there's two of them according to wikipedia) she arrives into. any idea when you'll find out what terminal you'll be arriving into?

Christina; deleted my post on page one. Thanks for raming over and making it so easy.

Just to repeat what others have already said...you have every right to be angry and sad.

Oh, I'm good at that expression! Maybe we should call it, "tough middle-aged woman" instead!

I only mention my "polite Canadian" persona because every time I've traveled in the UK I've had people ask me if I'm Canadian - usually followed by, "you're so polite." :rotfl: Yep, my good Canadian parents taught me to say "please" and "thank you" for everything. Unfortunately, I encountered way too many Americans who were very loud and very rude when things weren't like they are "at home." I wanted to say, "go home, then."

On a flight to England once, I heard the couple in the row ahead of me ask the flight attendant if England was like the UK section at Epcot. The poor flight attendant was momentarily speechless, but answered them very politely. I can't recall what he said, because I was thinking, "Yes, it's exactly like the UK section at Epcot, only bigger. Maybe you should just go to Epcot." I love America, but some of my fellow countrymen are just a bit embarrassing. I know all of us "Yanks" here will be very polite!

Karen....I just looked at your wedding pics at WDW. Loved them especially the ones by the arches (WDW in background and the one w/wedding chapel in back) and the ones in front Cinderella's castle! Beautiful! :goodvibes

Do we need to find out which terminal we arrive into and let you know?

I'll also be wearing my very best "Back off, buster" expression.

That's exactly what worked for me in Paris in May. That look you are talking about. You look the person/s square in the eye, bring down your eyebrows and give them the look that you are aware of your surroundings.
Because I looked the total opposite last August, I had the bad experience. (had I just known!! :confused3 I would have been more aware but now I know you have to be aware). Many times when I would see a little girl or ladies staring at me like they're about to focus on me (seeing all our luggage in the metro in Paris) I would call out to my DD and tell her watch her, him, etc so that now we had 2 sets of eyes looking at them, as they were looking at us. When they see that, they realize you are a bull-fighter and will fight pirate: I ran after the guy who took my wallet, and got it back (he grabbed my money while I was chasing him but I got my wallet back which incl credit cards drivers license, etc) because of this bull fighting pirate: attitude.

reading through last year's navigators, and (really sad but i got really excited! :rotfL) the adults get to invade the lab and make flubber one night!!!!!!!!! i'll definately be there! man, i'm such a big kid!

thanks :) brings back some lovely memories when we see them

I thought there were only 2 as well...but there was terminal C which totally threw the DCL transfer bus off for some reason (didn't they know?) We were at terminal 2 but needed terminal C? Perhaps term 2 is divided into A B C sections or something.
As for which terminal we land in, I will find this out. Also I will find out what DCL says about the $ I paid for the transfers. At the time of booking I told them I would land at 1:30 pm as estimated landing time, thinking I was going to perhaps land on another flight. I'll PM you once I find out the details.

Flubber!!!! This is awesome. As if I wasn't excited enough...I have ALWAYS wanted to play for a bit in the club. Now, if they would just let us try on a few princess costumes...

you guys arrive at 10.05 right? i was only asking the two latest people arriving, as my thinking was that if we meet at their terminal, that'll cut down their time that it takes them to get through the airport. the rest of us arrive early enough that even if we dont arrive into the terminal the bus will pick us up from, we've still got enough time to walk there.

What in the world is FLUBBER????? :confused3

SO glad i'm not the only big kid at heart. plus i know there's a reason i changed to early dining, we would have missed this if we were on late!

OMG, you made me laugh :lmao:. Seriously, why do some people travel when what they really want is for everything to be just like home? (Of course, I do like a shower and working toilets... :rolleyes1)

I'll also be wearing my very best "Back off, buster" expression.

This could happen to anyone, prepared or not, but I have a feeling you will never be a victim again! :worship: You go, girl!

man its getting better:
the next night we get to make those volanoes that spew foam everywhere!

Flubber is this amazing substance that was featured in "The Absent Minded Professor" long ago. There was a remake of the movie with Robin Williams as the professor, and flubber became even more magical. When applied to something, it gave the object the ability to fly. In the kids' lab, I believe that flubber is green and bouncy. Basically, fun. I guarantee I'll be there to try my hand at making it.
