You might do better with a pre-arranged mini-van. The taxis in Barcelona are small 4-seaters - your five will need more than one - YMWTV. You could check out the list on page one and see if anyone is staying at a hotel near yours. I think the gang from the Renaissance is paying 10 euros pp. Your hotel may even be closer to the port.

Yes, I meant a taxi-van; I priced one at about 66 euro, but they didn't respond to my inquiry for a specific fare from our hotel. I'll definitely have a plan in place prior to departure.

So would it just look stupid to take a cab the 2-3 blocks from the Aerobus stop to our hotel? The Aerobus is so much less than a cab from the airport.
A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do....to protect her bag o' shoes . I doubt you'll have any problems walking, unless your bags are just too much to carry. Just know how to get where you're headed and look like an angry American :scared1:! If necessary, take that taxi...the hotel staff won't know you only went a few blocks, so who would think it was stupid?

Had no choice but to pay. Again, never had my hand luggage weighed. Now I learned my lesson. :scared1:

Air Canada has weighed my hand luggage before and made me move stuff into DH's hand luggage instead :confused3

Hi guys. Just called DCL, cancelled it..... Its too clear Im not even close to making it.

For all; Enjoy this one a bit for me also. :)

So sorry to hear that you won't be joining us, Jacqueline. Hope you are better soon.

I know!!! :lmao: Mind you between us our alcohol list is looking rather good. ;) Our steamer trunks (aka alcohol storage) are going to be the envy of others. :rotfl2:
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Back home yesterday from 8 nights at Ft Wilderness with wife and 3 grand kids (14, 12, and 8)...did all 4 parks and Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach with two goof off days. It only rained one day and didn't really interfere but it was hot everyday. Getting ready to get ready to go East now to Barcelona. We are military hopping over so no idea where we'll come in at. Most typical entries are England, Germany, or Cadiz, Spain (Rota NAS).

You are adventurous!! We used to military hop alot when DH was active duty and I was in the reserves. We could go in-conus with me using my reserve ID and out-conus using my dependent ID. Miss those days. DH is now retired but "gray" - did 6 yrs active and 14 reserve and not yet 60 so no beneftis yet till he turns 60. :sad1: Though we do get DCL and WDW discounts when offered! :cool2::thumbsup2 We've flown to or from Mindenhall, Ramstein, Rota, and Signonella NAS (Catania, Sicily), and numerous other bases worldwide! :)

or would you look more stupid trying to juggle your luggage as you go down the street? I would say "you're on vacation, who'll ever see you again," but as we learn, many of us cruise with the same people over the years. And what makes your life easier - you're on vacation.

Have you tried barcelona airport transfers?

https://www.barcelona-airport-transfers.com/index.htm

We used them twice last year. Good service. Prompt, clean; we had a van for 12 (more like a small tour bus) for 10 or 12.50 dollars (I think, not euros) pp from the port to the airport.

Isn't that funny that the thread is today about the same topic? Also how coincidental that I absolutely love the Disney HEYS! but cannot get my hands on it here in Canada at a reasonable price.:headache:

I was looking all over for Disney HEYS luggage but couldn't find it.:guilty:
Then I saw HEYS set in a nice blue color at Costco. It was 99.00 for the 2 pieces (it was important that the wheels were spinner wheels). HEYS offers both types of wheels. We took the set on the EBTA and then spent 8 days in Paris. I LOVE this luggage---absolutely love it. Now I see new colors at Costco but are asking 130.00 for the set. I never did see the Disney HEYS but did see it last week online. I love it!!! HEYS has a good reputation for quality. The only trouble is that the luggage takes up space in the room. I fit the carry-on sized luggage under the bed, and the full-sized in the closet.

Did you happen to look at The Disney Store online? I just bought a Disney suitcase there. It was actually a Mickey Mouse damask. I can't wait to bring it on the cruise! It will actually be the suitcases inaugural voyage. I hope it holds up! :)

Candy swap

Hi all.
I told Jacqueline not to worry about sending me the information that she has regarding the candy swap.

So I would much appreciate if everyone signed up for the swap would PM me the followering information.

- Number of people in your stateroom
- Ages of people in your stateroom
- Room number (if you have it)
- Likes/dislikes
- Allergies
- How big a group you would like to participate in

A document will be set up on the FE Google Groups page after the cutoff date. Is everybody okay with a cutoff date on August 15th?

Christina

I totally agree!!! Take a cab, who cares what others think! :)

I would take the Aerobus and walk. It is quick, easy and cheap. In May when we went on NCL out of Barcelona, we took the bus with our luggage. Just so happened that Placa Cataunlya was having a massive protest as it was the day before the general Spanish elections. There were about (no exaggeration 10,000 people) in the Placa when we got off the bus. We had to drag our bags through a protest and we were not 100% sure of where we were going in relation to the bus stop. We made it, found the hotel and did not get anything stolen or lost. If your hotel is near the bus stop, take it, it is the difference of 5 euros vice 60 from the airport and hailing cabs on the street can be a pain.

We took a taxi from the hotel to the port just because of the luggage issue. Unfortunately three ships were going out that day and we got stuck in traffic at the port--there is only one way in and out of the port, over this bridge and it is one lane--so our taxi ride was about 20 Euros to go less than 5 miles, but it was better than walking it!

There is a bus that travels from the Columbus monument (end of Las Ramblas) to the port, but it does not really have room for luggage like the aerobus, so taxing really is a better option.

Thanks. I just checked and they are also 66 euro for the 5 of us. This is not going to be an inexpensive vacation, but it will be so worth it!

Based on the taxi fare/km quoted on Barcelina Tourist Guide,

If you did a regular taxi, it would be approximately:

jump in the taxi = 1.80 euros
mileage 4 km x 1.15 euro/km = 4.50
cruise port destination surplus = 2.10
waiting in traffic ~ 12 min = 3.76 euros

12.16 euros per taxi x 2 taxis = 24.16

+ 1 euro per bag in trunk x 5 bags = + 5 euros

29.16 euros for 2 taxis from Pl. Catalunya to cruise terminal - You might be better off with 2 taxis than pre-arranged

I am basing this on the port location being the same as last year (see map below).

Got these numbers from http://www.worldtaximeter.com/barcelona (with mileage from google)

(20 euros added if starts/ends at airport)

This is the address posted for us to use to get to the ship.
Portal de la Pau, 6
Moll Adossat, Terminal "c"
Barcelona 08039

However, that address does not correspond on Google maps to the actual location of the ship for docking in 2010, or as shown on the Barcelona Tourist Guide map. (plug it into google and you end up farther west in a more industrial pier).

The street address would be Passeig del Comte de Barcelona Joan de Borbó, Barcelona, Espanya

cruise-terminal.gif

Those who sailed on the 2011 EBTA, do you remember the pier being somewhat near the Columbus statue and drop off/pick up area for the HOHO buses (that would correspond to the map above).

...According to the DCL site, "The Disney Magic will be berthed at Adossat Terminal (Moll D'Adossat), Terminal C."

The location on the above map is the Quai Adossat (which would be the Adossat Quay) - so it looks like the same location as 2010.

Good morning all

I have a feeling that today will be THE day that you get your cabin numbers. :thumbsup2 :wizard:

Christina I will PM you my info for the candy exchange. :thumbsup2

Those Lumix cameras are very popular and make great photos (I use the Panasonic DMC-ZS3 version). If you bring it on the cruise, keep an eye out - others might think it is theirs and accidentally pick it up - goofprincess kept doing that to mine. :goodvibes

 Thanks for the warning! Hopefully mine will stand out as I have a Disney strap on it....although being on a Disney cruise so may others. :lmao:

Hi Christina

I will drop you a PM.

Another option could be to take the train from the airport to Barcelona Sants station in the centre of Barcelona. It's very easy to do and you can take your airport trolley all the way onto the platform at the airport.

From Sants there are lots of taxis outside as it is the main train station.

We are doing this and then getting a taxi to our hotel.

Hope this helps

was flicking through tv channels earlier and came across "according to jim". never seen this before but i caught a glimpse of them on the DCL stage with the characters. turned out the episode was based on the ship.
sad thing is though, i was watching it and pointing out the inaccuracies to myself, ie: they had proper bunk beds instead of the drop down, the stateroom door was a normal door, the carpet in the corridor was cream coloured......
i seriously need to get out more! :rotfl2:

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

You are Brave! 8 nights camping with three kids takes courage enough, but a hop to 'somewhere'? That takes guts to a whole new level!

Losts of cruise chatter today - one of my roommates (LovingtheMouse) is here for a couple days :goodvibes

Happy Day, all!

We've saw According to Jim before Karen, but not the episode you saw. I think it's an old TV programme?

LOL's about picking the faults :lmao:

Just checked the series ran from 2001 - 2009

Christina; deleted my post on page one. Thanks for raming over and making it so easy.

You guys rock, appreciate the support. Cant remember who asked, but having op one week earlier? Would've been big difference, but dehydration did me in combined with a slow recovery and that failed try. As that was one of many medical mistakes, it probably wouldnt have made it any way. Im mad and sad, but it is as it is.

Lynne; Palo brunch and just loungeing on deck with the kindle were my main thing. So enjoy those. :) shame I cant give the ladies mickey earrings as the FE gift. Was psyched about that.

Sorry to be so selfcentered, be more normal soon. :)
