For those of us staying at the Renaissance Barcelona Airport

Is anybody interested in maybe sharing a shuttle to the port? Just throwing this idea around, nothing set in stone yet.

I know they have a free shuttle (if you've booked the pre cruise package) but they don't start running till 11am and then every hour on the hour afterwards.

I think we have 6 people already interested - anyone else?

I would be interested IF we don't do the day tour with Barcelona Day Tours, which is what we are leaning towards right now.

Squitty and GatorMomInNC or anyone else staying at the renaissance airport- We are looking at the Barcelona Day Tours too. I was going to see if anyone wanted to share that tour. I know it seems costly but it's because its a private tour. If we get more people to do it maybe the price would be more reasonable. Sounds to me like it would leave at 9 AM from the hotel and get us to port around 1:30 Any takers? I'd be willing to organize... I know there's a bunch of us getting in on the 9th. We definitely want to see some of barcelona before boarding the ship.

Just checked out their website - this looks like a good option. You could do this trip and be done by 12:45 and still have time to go to Maho beach to watch the planes...

Edit: I would be willing to contact them to get more info if interested. It looks like their boats hold 14 people and it is $69 US per person with an additional $12 pp for the transportation to/from the port.

Next thing on my list is the Fish Extenders. I would like to join in on this, but I am not crafty and don't want to have to make anything. Can you buy FE somewhere? I understand that you buy gifts for everyone to put in their FE's, and I can either bring a bunch of small gifts or try and purchase them in Barcelona, but I'm not sure where to get the actual FE.

oh and i went for my fishy pedicure earlier - it was actually not too bad, didnt feel horrible, but it just felt like i had pins and needles for half an hour. my feet are a lot smoother, going to use my other voucher on friday

Dennis' niece is getting married to a Brit in October and applying for citizenship. Her father (Dennis' DB) is livid! Being only two generations from my British relatives, I'm thinking, "Get over it, pal." God save the Queen.

A while ago, someone mentioned horseback riding on St. Maarten. Anyone recall who that was and if they booked it? I'm still toying with that idea. Or the rent-a-Harley, but I think Dennis would have a heart attack. I've never actually ridden with a passenger aboard. He keeps asking about a sidecar. Ummm, I don't think so, honey.

I am thinking I am going to need to put a spreadsheet together to map all of this out - what's going on what day (formal nights, excursions, times in/out of port) - so we can know what to book and when!

That's what I did, only it was just a list of dates & events. I also figured out 3 or 4 choices for days/times for Palo brunch and dinner. I managed to get my first choice for both. Made it much easier, having thought this out in advance.

I know people have purchased them on eBay and Etsy (is that the name of it?). Some are pre-made and some are customized. You might want to look into that soon, as some of the people who make them take a couple of weeks or more to finish and ship.

You can also go super lo-tech with this. Some people just hang a tote bag or one of those recyclable grocery bags on the FE and that's it. If you want to get fancy you could buy some craft paint and write your name on it. Just don't try to iron letters onto the grocery bags. They're make of some kind of plastic-y stuff. I learned that the hard way. Took forever to scrape it off the iron.

Just don't try to iron letters onto the grocery bags. They're make of some kind of plastic-y stuff. I learned that the hard way. Took forever to scrape it off the iron.

i looked at the horse riding and still am. we'll probably book it as its something i really want to do

i can imagine the state of the bottom of your iron after that one pat......

We have a rental mini bus for Maho beach but it's already full, I am sure there are lots more heading that way so hopefully you can get another bus full & we'll see you in the bar.

Sounds pretty high those €280 for just 4 hours. I'ld email a couple of taxi-companies if I were you to see what their hourly rate is. Should be doable to do it for less than €70,- an hour. (That's even more expensive than the hourly rate here and it's a lot more expensive to use cabs here than in the Med. area). Benefit would be a total freedom so you could linger somewhere longer if desired or hit something else if it turns out a bum to your family.



As far as excursions go; I'm planning on doing a taxitour on St. Maarten. Not booking anything beforehand, can easily be arranged at the port for cheaper. Just asked my friend what she paid for her tour in 2009. They ended up with 4 people sharing the cab and while she can't remember the exact price, she does remember it was not even close to €20,- for the tour she took (spent a few hours discovering the island). I'm planning on a bit of sightseeing of both the more touristy and less known things and grab a bite to eat, perhaps do some shopping? If anybody wants to join me, let me know. It's affordable enough to do solo but if there are others that want to tag along and cut costs; feel free to join.

Ik ben wel geinteresseerd in zo'n trip. Ik wilde de 12m regatta maar die zit vol en Paul wil gaan biken en daar heb ik geen zin in, dus ik was al aan het kijken wat ik kon doen. Een rondrit over het eiland met enkele stops, evt toeristische vind ik erg leuk om te doen. Dus als je dat ziet zitten?

I am interested. I saw somewhere that the price goes down the more people you have. We only have 4 hours though, and we should probably agree ahead of time which sites we want to see. I know that I want to make time for a stop at a liquor store right before the cruise. Also, I will be with my 2 kids and my mom who cannot walk far, so we weren't going to do a lot of long stops - I had more in mind just driving around, seeing the sites and maybe getting out for a photo op occasionally, depending on time. So we may be better off going on our own, I don't want to cramp anyone's style.

If you click on sellers other items, she lists 3 pocket and 4 pocket ones. There are other sellers on eBay selling FEs but I think gradysmommy sells the nicest ones.

Yes, I'm rather dangerous with irons. I can use one to press seam allowances when I sew, but that's about it. Here's how I iron clothes: "Honey, would you press this for me?" Dennis loves to iron. Of course, he usually has a martini and watches old cowboy movies while he does it.

I just switched hotels to the Renaissance at the airport. I can use points for some of the stay and I figure we are just going to want to crash when we get in on Friday anyway. Can I change this on the WBTA website?

As mentioned before; Ebay! Don't just search on the fish extender word, but also on things like hanging storage etc. That way you'll find a lot cheaper options (you are being killed as soon at they know it's for a disney cruise...)

Zie facebook. Als je nog altijd het water op wilt; er zijn diverse touroperators op St. Maarten die gelijkwaardige excursies als DCL bieden, bijna altijd (veel) goedkoper dan via DCL. Er zijn al wat links gepost. Als je dus héél graag wilt; het uitzoeken meer dan waard. Dat gezegd hebbende; je bent altijd hartstikke welkom! Als je het makkelijker vind praten; kan ook altijd via mijn facebook. Gebruik die nooit behalve voor DCL, maar dan kun je gewoon eigen taal lullen.

Actually it might be a good idea if she meets an American suitor ..... then she could get to work in USA which she wants to do anyway.

I am toying with the idea of horse riding too ..... problem is Tony has never done it and unless he loses a bit of weight I would be concerned for the poor horse I haven't ridden myself in about 10 years but I would love to give it a go.
