As you can see from the post counter, we literally just found the DIS boards and then by lucky happenstance, this thread.

Will PM all the appropriate folks to join FE, SM, and the other fun things you all have cooked up. This will add a "magical" dimension to the cruise. Can't wait to meet many of you on these boards and have a chat before sailing!

:welcome: aboard! We're Pat and Dennis. This is our 3rd cruise (all DCL) but our first for more than 4 nights.

Be sure to read the FE Info post on pg 1 and post #223 on pg 15. Then ask any questions you have. I'm working on splitting up the lists, due to baggage limitations getting to Barca for many of us. It may not be too clear, if you haven't been in on the discussion (not sure it's that clear for those of us who have been in on it), so ask away and we'll clarify for you.

Noel, your post has been a huge help as I've tried to sort out whom to contact regarding each activity! As soon as I reach the magic 10 post number I will begin the PM's. Really appreciate you having all that info in one spot.

We are cruising to celebrate DH's upcoming 50th; it's our first Disney cruise without children. They are now 19 and 22 and will join us on another in the future, I am certain! We love cruising and travel in general, but have never made it to Europe, either, so at least we are getting our feet wet in Barcelona. We have signed up for a cooking class (cookandtaste . net) on the 9th of September, and look forward to joining the DIS folks at the Hard Rock that night.

Yay, another post toward the magical "10"-- I can't even post the link to the cooking class properly until I hit it!

Oh, Dennis and I are total "foodies" (and winos, but that's another story) - a cooking class sounds like fun! Are you going to do the Boqueria Market, too? We only have two days in Barca. Part of me wants to sight-see and shop, but this is really tempting my inner chef. (Hmm... Wonder if I'd have room in my suitcase for my chef's knives?)

ahhhh..... I think we do have someone who is a diver. Karen maybe?

Curt and I have only done discovery dives since we are not certified. The last place was Bonaire. Loved it!!

Bonaire is one of my favorite dive places.

Hi

Not sure if 1) I'm going to be allowed the time LOL ( shopping takes priority)
2) If I have enough experience

I completed a PADI scuba course 4 yrs ago but did not complete the open water module:confused3 and I have not dived in 2 yrs .

I probably would need to be more up to date but let me know if It might be an option for me :yay:

Michael

Michael... you would need a Certification card to dive. If you did not complete your open water dives then you would not have one. PADI only allows 1 yr for you to take it after completing the course. Looks like you would need to take the course again. You can do most of it online now.. classroom part that is.

I am thinking I will be diving in Tortola and maybe a second port as well......

I don't mind going with very inexperienced divers as I am used to watching over them. But you will have to be certified to go diving.

Are they the sub zero G - world's lightest luggage ??? They are reduced at the moment in Argos ... may just have to check those out!

The Sub zero G one's are a great price at the moment some are even half price, the only problem with that one is it's only 2 wheels, we prefer 4 wheels. Here is the one Mary & I have got...

Thanks hun, will have more than a few cocktails :woohoo::woohoo:

Behave while I am away and don't be tooo chatty :lmao: I will probably have tons of pages to read when I get back :rotfl2: xx

:lmao: My lips are sealed, I won't post anything until you get back so you can't blame me for having too much to read. :ssst: ;)

Game for whatever. I actually started planning this as a day time event. I was thinking 1130ish to 4/5ish which is how I have always done them in the past.

I will go with the group. and If we do it on Mickey Mouse Club Dinner night perhaps we can incorporate that into the shirt design.

Thoughts from the wider group?

My initial thought was to have it in the daytime hours as well - are there any objections from the larger group?

Maybe it was just me then, I assumed it would be evening. Afternoon is ok with me but I would prefer it to be another day, incase I am too pickled to make it to the Formal night dinner. :upsidedow

I'll go with the flow, I don't want to cause any hassles. :flower3: I seem to be the only one who would prefer it on a different day...so i'll shut up now.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! I was booked here and switched to the EBTA - had soooo much fun on the EBTA and such a great cruise that I'm another one who decided to "do it again" -Have some catching up to do and look forward to getting know everyone!

Lisa

:welcome: aboard Lisa! We are Claire & Lee, this is our 3rd cruise but first TA. :cool1:

BTW, Sarah (TotallyAngelic), your trip report and photos made for a heavenly evening two nights ago as my DH and I sat together transfixed and read every post and enjoyed each pic as we dreamed about the 2011 WBTA on the Magic. Thank you for all the trouble to post as it really got us planning and then led us to this thread!

Welcome Karen & Stan.....we are going to need some nicknames with all the Karen's on this cruise it's going to be confusing. :lmao:

Glad to have you onboard. :cool1:

Dennis is an aviation geek, too. I'm a WWII amateur geek - I'm absolutely fascinated by that period. As for Maho, I know we want to go, and it's fine if we have to sit at the bar. Heck, after a couple of drinks I might even hang on the fence!

That is what DH intends to do ... and I will be right there with my camcorder :thumbsup2

I am really trying to get our pre-cruise hotel figured out but I feel like I am going in circles trying to decide between all the hotels.

Sarah, I saw on a hotel thread that you loved your stay at Praktik Rambla, but I noticed you are not staying there this trip. If it's not too personal can I ask why? It is one that we are considering.

Anyone that has already been to Barcelona and enjoyed their stay in a hotel, I would love to hear some recommendations.

WE loved the Praktik Rambla but I do like to stay in different areas, and this time we wanted to be closer to the Gothic Quarter as we loved this area so much and I was hoping to wander about there ater the Hard Rock Cafe meet up ... we are staying in the Hotel Denit, which is just off Placa Catalunya and it got good reviews on Trip Advisor :thumbsup2

Hi Lisa and welcome aboard. We are Sarah and Tony from Wales and it is our second WBTA !! The first one was amazing and I hope this will be equally as good :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thank you so much for your kind comments. It is nice to know that people read your ramblings and even better to be told they are actually useful :rotfl2: I do get a bit camera happy on vacation as I am sure you may have realised. Anyways, welcome aboard, we are Sarah and Tony from Wales :thumbsup2

This cruise is also to celebrate my DH's 50th birthday, which is in October. I wanted to cruise actually ON his birthday but he chose the WBTA again as he loved it so much last time. We are leaving our 2 offspring behind ... well DD ( 20 ) will actually be travelling in USA in September when she finishes the WDW college programme. Poor DS ( 17 ) will be at home being supervised by his grandmother, as he starts back at college in September.
Look forward to meeting you at the Hard Rock :woohoo:

Well that's us packed

One sleep till Barcelona and two sleeps till we board the Magic :cool1::cool1:

What am I saying, sleeps...... there is absolutely no way I will sleep over the next 2 nights with the excitement :rotfl:

Wish me luck that we manage to get an upgrade, we're going to the port for 10 am to try and get one. The ship looked pretty full by the time they closed off for bookings a couple of days ago.

I've just had a quick check on the DCL site for those of you with your reservations opening up in the next few days - quick Palo update:-

High Tea - Days 6, 9 and 13 are gone for High Tea slots
Brunch - availability every day
Dinner - availability every day

Good luck everyone and I hope you get the slots that you want :thumbsup2
Thanks for the update Mary - have a great time!!

Hi and welcome to you too.

I am a bit OCD if you know what I mean when it comes to over planning for traveling. Unfortunately I do tend to over pack shoes but on this trip, I am trying to limit the shoes. We traveled with 3 checked bags and two carry ons each on the way to the cruise. I shipped on bag ahead and carried a duffel inside one of the suitcases.

Here is a picture of us on the way home from last WBTA so you can realize I am not exaggerating about suitcases. We have four checked bags each and two carry ons each.

HomeAgain.jpg

Wow, thats a lot. I have planed 1 suitcase each and a carry on each.
Our limited luggage wheigt is 1 piece of 20 kg pp and 1 piece of 10 kg cabinsize on our flight from Amsterdam to Barcelona.
On our way back from Orlando to Amsterdam we can have 3 kg more and we can have a extra handbag/laptopbag whit us, so we get extra spare room in our carry on luggage.
So I have to choose the right things to pack.

Thanks everyone!! We're at aberdeen airport now at the gate waiting to board our flight to heathrow then connecting to Barcelona :woohoo:

I'll keep lots of notes Karen and I'll ask the necessary dining and Palo questions for our activities :)

Chris & Jeremy, daytime is fine for the pub crawl for us

I might not make it to dinner :lmao::lmao:

First up; welcome to all the newcomers!! :thumbsup2 I'm Jacqueline from the Netherlands, cruising solo on this one and well...... my nick kinda says a lot. That's all the warning I'm giving.

Noel, all I can say is WOW! I think you've got more luggage than I got as a total wardrobe (shoes and all included). And you say you guys use a spare bedroom as gathering space for the travel clothes etc. so that would mean you've got plenty of other clothes to wear at home? That's got to be one heck of a wardrobe! I'm officially wowed, what a womans heaven do you live in! :goodvibes

I seem to be getting my miracle? Just got the official green light for the operation! Should get it within 4 weeks apparently, but am not holding my breath. They've cancelled way too many appointments so far. I think one hasn't been moved or cancelled, so we decided to assume the date will get moved at least once. Fingers crossed though it gets done a.s.a.p. and the recovery will be one of perfection. If that all comes together, it's cruising I go with you guys. At least this is one big step closer to stepping aboard the Magic in 95 days.

PS; has anybody ever gotten a manicure at the spa aboard? Or perhaps even the Elemis hand ritual + manicure? I'm wondering about experiences!

Thinking about getting my nails done aboard. Never had them done before (so basically any tips on that are also welcomed) but they could use a nice touch up and some fake ones on them. I realise it's probably cheaper to get it done at home, but that's fine with me.

I got a manicure last time I was on Magic. It was nice but the nail polish didn't stick very long. I had to peel it all of in the evening (It came of in big lumps). Maybe my nails are wired :confused3 but I was not very satisfied.

I hope all works out well for you and whatever it is you are having done is soon over and you are well on the road to recovery.

Hi There,

I'm Paul and will be travelling with my wife Helen and our daughter Grace (2) on the WBTA.

This will be our 1st cruise and we are thouroughly looking forward to it.

From reading through the threads (thanks Granmaz & Mandygirl for the directions) I am amazed at the level of organisation that goes into organising all the activities. I don't know where you all find the time!!!

We think the ideas are great and are particularly interested in the FE, secret Mickey and pub crawl.

Any suggestions to gift ideas for the FE would be greatly appreciated as we are completely new to this.

I thought I was being organised doing research 3 months before the cruise but it would appear i am a late starter. The excursions in Madeira and Tortola look great but it looks like they are fully booked.

Any ideas regarding solo trips would be appreciated for Madeira.

Thanks Goofieslonglostsis for the info on dolphin discovery in Tortola. That looks great and something Grace would love to do.
Can anyone confirm if this is the one that DCL uses for their excursion and if so do they book the places up making it impossible to book the trip independantly?

We arrive in Barcelona on 9th and would also be interested in the Hard Rock meet.

Look forward to seeing you all in September

Paul, Helen & Grace

Hi Paul and welcome over here. Things are really getting organised here for sure. I don't think the excursions in Madeira are full as yet, Noel is in the process of organising these. She will be along later today no doubt!!!

:welcome: aboard! We are Pat and Dennis. This is our 3rd cruise (all DCL) but our first for more than 4 nights.

I'm in charge of the FE. Be sure to read the threads in the info post on page 1. They explain everything and have some great ideas for gifts. If you can use OrientalTrading.com in the UK, they have lots of fun stuff, especially for kid's gifts.

Also read post #223 on pg 15. It explains (sort of) how I'm splitting up the FE list. And feel free to ask questions - we'll all be happy to answer them for you.

I'm so excited though that DH agreed to using travellite for shipping our diapers and wipes to the ship. That would take up a lot of room and weight allowance so totally worth the extra money IMO. With the pre-trip to DLP I know we'll have a bunch of souvenirs. We might pack a totebag inside one of the suitcases to get some extra stuff home. I'm sure that I will want to bring back everything I see

We have looked into Travelite as well since we have some pretrip nights in NYC before the Barcelona nights. I know they "guarantee" shipment, or your money back, but I can't help but wonder "what if" shipment doesn't make it. :confused3 Money isn't the issue, but the diapers. I guess plan B is to donate a small fortune to the ship, or hope Morrison's in Gibraltar has some? Or is that the "worst case scenario" person talking to me? They carry our Seventh Generation diapers, so that's a plus! :thumbsup2 Have you come across any stories of Travelite failing on a Disney cruise?

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! I was booked here and switched to the EBTA - had soooo much fun on the EBTA and such a great cruise that I'm another one who decided to "do it again" -Have some catching up to do and look forward to getting know everyone!

Lisa

Welcome back, Lisa!! :cheer2: Hearing all these positive reports from the EBTA are definitely encouraging!!

Question: On sea days, is it too windy to enjoy the verandah or kiddie splash area onboard?

As you can see from the post counter, we literally just found the DIS boards and then by lucky happenstance, this thread.

Will PM all the appropriate folks to join FE, SM, and the other fun things you all have cooked up. This will add a "magical" dimension to the cruise. Can't wait to meet many of you on these boards and have a chat before sailing!

Welcome aboard!! We are also in the DFW area and celebrating DH's true 39th birthday and DD1's 5th birthday. Our first Disney cruise, first transatlantic, and first cruise with children... but #9 overall. The rest have been 7-nighters in the Caribbean or Alaska, so we are looking forward to branching out! ;)

Bonaire is one of my favorite dive places.

We loved Bonaire! To make it better, it was just the two of us plus divemaster, and we had a turtle hang out with us for about half the time. We had almost decided to get certified prior to that cruise, thinking that since it was my present for graduating from grad school I would have more time on my hands, but somehow we never found that extra time. :confused3

Thanks everyone!! We're at aberdeen airport now at the gate waiting to board our flight to heathrow then connecting to Barcelona :woohoo:

I'll keep lots of notes Karen and I'll ask the necessary dining and Palo questions for our activities :)

Thanks for checking on that, Mary! You rock!! :thumbsup2

YAY for the green light on surgery, Jacqueline! It's always nerve-wracking going into surgery though. My thoughts are with you in these upcoming weeks!

Hi Paul, Helen & Grace! Glad you found us over here. :thumbsup2 You sound like me when I found DIS back in October... and even then I thought I was waaaay behind with all the planning LOL!

Tortola excursion has one spot right now, but two are waiting on it (a couple who left a message on my visitor board but have not posted on this thread before). I posted a visitor message back to them there is not enough room, so I hope they saw it. They are top of the standby list because if just one person cancels, they have their two spots.

With all these under-age-three toddlers, we are going to need to get some playgroups together for these kiddos! Late morning splash area or supervised time in kids club since we can take them there if remaining with them! I know when we serve in the nursery at church, we absolutely love watch our 1 year old interact with others!
