*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 3

The sandwiches have been different each of the three times we have been but are usually unusual, so might not suit you. They also make them with different kinds of bread/mini rolls. I do remember prawn cocktail and a cheddar and pickle though. I think they were the most normal. As I said though, I loved them all!!

The scones were gorgeous, served with jam and cream. You might get the chance of a second or even more, just depends. Then there is a little cake stand of mini cakes. Oh yummy!!!! Again, all different and some more unusual. Then there is a dessert. Twice we have had gorgeous trifle and once a lovely lemon one. Both were quite big.

There is a big choice of teas from normal to quite unusual. Of course you can have coffee or cold drinks. You also have water on the table.

They only have a small section of the dining room open for High Tea, so it is very quiet.

I only actually eat tuna, salmon or egg sandwiches, although I can eat ham, chicken etc so long as there isn't any mayonnaise involved. I am really fussy about the amount of mayo on a sandwich ...it has to be really mixed in as in egg or tuna mayo sandwiches.

DH's surgery was successful. We should be leaving the hospital soon. Mel, I'd be game to join you for a Palo brunch (yummy) as I too am traveling as a single mom with my DS...hubby is staying home.

To the 22 year old gentleman traveling by himself...come along and have a great time with us! We are quite the range of ages and I have yet to meet someone here who isn't welcoming!

Glad to hear the surgery went well! And Good Luck to you with him at home....keep a glass of wine nearby for your consumption as needed!

With jet lag, though, we'll probably either be crashed out or ready to kill each other! That's the downside of being overgrown 5 year olds - we get crabby if we don't have our naps.

I thought I'd say hello because I'm seriously considering booking a cabin for myself for this trip if the price comes down like the may trip did. I'm graduating from college this semester, finishing student teaching and might just become addicted to cruising after I go on NCL in may... I'm a huge disney fanatic (hopefully i'll be working in WDW within the year) and can't imagine a better experience than going to on my first DCL Europe to FL transatlantic trip! I'd be doing this on my own as a solo travel. I've read some of the solo traveler experiences, but there doesn't seem to be many 22 year old males reviewing their solo experience... can't help enjoying the inner child! Thoughts? Is this something I would be welcomed into? This forum seems to be really nice, i have to say! Any advice?

its been such a lovely day here, i really have missed the sun. so what are we all up to over the weekend?
i'm working tomorrow but plan on going for a long walk (5+ miles hopefully) to get some training in for my charity walk next month. gary has gone up to scotland for a few days and he's taken the dog so i've got the house to myself for a few days

as you may or may not know, i'm a disney cast member, and the company runs a programme called voluntears, which encourages CMs to volunteer in their local communities.
today i've been up in london, visiting two hospitals with mickey mouse and pluto, visiting the childrens wards and giving out toys. its been such a lovely rewarding day, seeing the children's faces light up when they see mickey is priceless. i'm so glad i signed up for it and wouldnt hesitate to do it again
(and as an added bonus, i got a new facebook photo with me and the characters)

Karen.....how awesome! I didn't know you were a Disney cast member! What a wonderful thing to do I can imagine was a joy it was to see the children's faces. Good job girl! Always nice to know that something you did makes such an impact on someone else (of course...it never hurts to have Mickey Mouse on your team! )

Welcome, we are Chris & Jeremy and this will be our first cruise ever (of course we chose DCL - we are big Disney fans!).

There are people of all ages, backgrounds, orientations and nationalities on this cruise, so I think it would be a fun time.

I liked to travel by myself - it's fun and adventurous. Plus you can do as little or as much as you want and not have to answer to anyone else or worry if everyone else is having a good time!

(uh oh, I may be in trouble for that comment - LOL)

I wish I had traveled solo more when I was in college and just graduated. I'd say do it - it should be a fun experience for you.

What exactly do they serve at high tea ... I am a bit fussy when it comes to sandwiches and the like.

The sandwiches are more like canapes. As for me, I'd rather pop into a Pret A Manger, Eat or M&S Simply Food and get a sandwich, trim off the crust and call that a tea sandwich. That is some of my favorite food in England. (of course that Tesco's finest yogurt that I go on and on about).

The trifle is the same stuff they serve at brunch. The cakes are the same type and quality - if you like the brunch desserts, you'd like tea.

...Tomatoes? LOVE 'EM in all forms - except tomato juice. When I was a kid, my parents always had a garden in the backyard with cherry tomatoes and those little yellow pear-shaped tomatoes. I'd go out there and eat them right off the vines. Yum-o! All you tomato-haters can pass yours to me.

Now bell peppers are another story. For some reason, those absolutely do not agree with me. The results aren't pretty.

I won't do cold tomato juice, but warm it up and basically it's a tomato soup - then it's tasty.

I love it when you can get a full-flavor tomato - hard to do nowadays from the supermarket. I've only had a few in the past decade. I'm thinking you Brits with the push for organic farming and your size geographically might actually have better success in getting good tomatoes. We'll get tomatoes shipped in from California or Mexico over to the eastern side of the country.

Bell peppers - put them in a dish and that's all I taste.

I love the High Tea, though it isn't anything as fantastic as Brunch I am always full!!! It just feels a lovely peaceful hour with great service and jolly good food. I just about love everything, so have problems not eating the things John doesn't like too!!!!! He isn't as keen as me, but he goes for me. We are not bothered about dinner there anymore, and though we love Brunch I just feel so poorly afterwards we have stopped going.

MariIlyn----I feel the same way DH still likes going to brunch however.
I like going with others so we can sit a long long time and eat in steps. Afterwards quick change into comfy clothes and the walking begins......I mean continues

If you ever get to tea at the Grand Floridian, they have a gorgonzola and poached pear sandwich that is to die for! Sounds totally unlikely and I approached it with trepidation but it was truly lovely.

We arrive late afternoon on the Weds, so will just probably just wander near the hotel & grab dinner that night....followed by two full days.

Yes, that's what we're doing. Just around town on Thursday - and out to Montserrat on Friday.

WONDERFUL news about the successful surgery! My condolences to you, however, having to "nurse" him through the aftermath.

You MUST be kidding with an incapacitated man about the house?

In 2007, DH had a broken ankle - out for 6 weeks with that because he couldn't get a steel toe boot over his swollen foot - followed by 4 weeks out after prostate surgery. THEN he had all his vacation left to spend - and I needed one.

Did enjoy the scones with jam and cream when we did the High Tea last year on the Western Caribbean cruise. A treat for us ex-pats living on the other side of the pond!

As Marilyn said, the dining room was very quiet, which made it a nice relaxing experience. The food is served to you and seconds are offered, making it much easier to decline; unlike the brunch when all of those tasty treats are calling your name.....
