The mom had told me they were going to do some extensive remodeling but we did not expect the house to be knocked down. What they did is leave one standing frame so I guess that constitutes "an extensive remodel". The newer people who move here often flaunt their "wealth" which usually comes from stock options. I often find it very vulgar to see what monstrosities these people build as houses. One family was very angry that the city would not give them a permit to building parking for 200 so they could entertain their "closest friends". The worst story is what Steve Jobs did to his house here as this article states, Steve Jobs, the Demo man. I am very sorry he is ill but what he did to this house angered the entire community.

Goodness me, he was determined to pull the house down wasn't he? What has he put in its place?

Because you are a GOLD member, you can start booking onboard fun and Port Adventures on May 28, 2011.

That's only about 55 days from now.

Wow. Are we trying to do any group Palo brunches?

We hope to book a Palo brunch at the 105 day window and then waitlist for another one when we are onboard. A few people managed to get 2 brunches last WBTA due to the amount of sea days :cool1: If we could manage a group one, then would be an option, but how do we organise that beforehand?

:rotfl2: Nope that won't sway me.

I spotted that was aimed at you :lmao::lmao:

Going back to the shoe obsession quite a few posts back. I bought 4 new pairs of sandals for the two cruises I am going on this summer. Not a huge fan of shoes, but love love love sandals. Too bad I live in New Jersey and only get to use them a few months out of the year. Bought a new pair of black heels too. DH paid for them but doesn't know it yeat. Ha ha ha. OK have to stop shopping now, it's bad bad bad when more money goes out than comes in. Hope to keep my job a while longer. Maybe I can save for a Fantasy cruise in 2012. Time break out the "Disney Fund" change jar.

Fantastic, we love shoes on here :thumbsup2 :lovestruc Sandals are great though, they don't take up as much room as shoes :)

i got both dd's dresses for pirate night and my formal night dress, i sooo cant wait to wear them:woohoo:

im so going to have to cut down on shoes for cruise, last year to florida we took a suitcase full of just shoes for me and my 2 daughters:rolleyes1

Hi Sarah

Did you get the dress you were after?

Here in the UK you would have got neighbour notification before the local planning authority gave them permission to demolish or "re-model" and you would have got the chance to object or give your comments on the works to be commenced. I take it that's not the case then in the US?

I love sandals too ... particularly wedges ... hope to pick up some new pairs prior to the cruise to go with my new dresses !!

There are some lovely wedges out there this season :lovestruc I'm ok for them, I got some really comfortable ones from next and clarks last year, with "heavenly soles" so you can go all day in them and still very fashionable. Watch out for the clarks summer sale (they're not all dowdy :lmao:) I got some great plain brown ones, mix n match with anything reduced from £48 to £15 :thumbsup2

Not so much here as you may infer.

The link on the Jobs house either won't load or is very slow. I will try again later.

It works ok for me but does take a minute or so. If it still doesn't work, let me know and I will send you the whole thing in a PM.

Something loaded that time - Uk Gizmodo. There was nothing on Jobs's house just news items.

:lmao: Noel, something or someone doesn't want me to see that house. The link won't open, with a message saying the address isn't valid!!!

Palo has a room that you can reserve for 12-14 people (not a smaller group).

A group request is sent to DCL, including names and reservation #s.

Individuals may make personal Palo brunch reservations at their booking window in case the group brunch room isn't available.

They notify the group's organizer about a month before the cruise if/which day the group gets the room.

At that point, any personal reservations for Brunch from group members are cancelled.

I believe the first requested use of the room gets priority. With over a week of Sea Days, a group should be able to get the room.

That worked Lynne. I think last time it changed to a UK version of the site.

It's a tax thing. If you leave a wall up, it's a remodel. If you tear down the entire structure, it's a rebuild. I don't know what the exact advantage is, but it's enough to "deal" with the original front wall. :snooty:

Ahh... to have such problems

Hi everyone!

Well, DH is having spine surgery on Thursday. Fortunately, it's not as invasive as we feared and he should be fully recovered in 10 to 12 weeks. Fingers crossed that it goes well.

To those recently joining, I am Karen and I am crusing with my (soon to be 13) year old son (Andrew). It will be our 3rd cruise on DCL (and 5th cruise overall) and definitely the longest (all the others have been 7 days)! Andrew and I will be visiting DLP before the cruise and are flying to Barcelona the day before the cruise (where I'm still hoping to see the Sagrada de Familia). We're hoping that DH will be able to join us for the Paris part of our trip...but we won't know that for a bit.

I can't remember who posted the banofee pie but....YUM! It looked delicious. I'm presently trying hard to avoid desserts and other high calorie items as I need to lose much more than a "stone" (but would be happy with any weight loss at all!). BTW, I started the Couch to 5K program today and have high hopes.

Take care all. I'll try to keep up the next week or so, but.....

Karen

Wishing your DH all the best with his surgery .... hope he makes a full and quick recovery  Good luck also with your programme. What exactly does the Couch to 5K programme involve? Sounds like something I should be doing.

oh .. and sorry about the Banoffee Pie pic ... that was me :guilty::guilty:

Fingers and toes crossed for a quick recovery for your DH!!

The Couch to 5K program is an interval (walking, jogging, running) program that I'm doing on my treadmill with an iPod app.

As for the banoffee pie...at least pictures don't have calories!

Seriously, 7 Hours without a post?

I'm all excited because there was a news leak about the new sailings for DCL

Disney Cruises from Texas and New York!!

For the first time ever, Disney Cruise Line will set sail from three new ports in 2012 – New York, Seattle and Galveston, Texas – making the Disney family cruise vacation more accessible to guests around the country. Additionally, the cruise line will offer more choices than ever before with several new itineraries planned.

“In 2012, we’re making it easier than ever for families to enjoy a Disney Cruise Line vacation by offering cruises from a variety of regional homeports,” said Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz. “Guests can now enjoy a magical, one-of-a-kind Disney cruise experience with the convenience of departures from their own backyard.”

2012 New York Schedule - Beginning May 25, 2012, the Disney Magic will sail a total of 20 cruises from New York – including eight-night cruises to the Bahamas and five-night cruises up the New England coast to Canada plus two-night cruises that will give a sampling of the Disney Cruise Line experience over a weekend:

} The eight Bahamas cruises will include a day at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay; Nassau, Bahamas; and a stop at Port Canaveral, Fla., giving guests an opportunity to visit the nearby Walt Disney World Resort. As part of this itinerary, each guest will receive a one-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper ticket and roundtrip transportation between their Disney ship and the resort.

Rates for the new eight-night Bahamian cruise itinerary departing from New York start at $1,240 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.
