Separating queen bed into twins?

Has anyone ever had the queen size bed split into two twins? Do they push the two twins apart with separate bedspreads? Maybe they can slide the two nightstands between the twins? Thanks!

We had this done for us. There are separate bedspreads for the beds and they put one of the nightstands between the beds.

I don't know the answer to your question but I will tell you that on our cruise last year I asked the room Steward to do this for us...(I had 3 kids in the cabin - connecting Cat 10) he wasn't too keen on that idea said something about it taking up too much space? (maybe he just didn't want to make over two beds?) Anyhow, we were in one of the rooms with the 4th bunk over the sofa and he made that up instead...no big deal since my DS6 loved the "bunk" bed but I was kind of surprised by the room stewards attitude.

We have a king size bed at home. The box spring is two twins together, so how can two twins on the ship be a queen and not a king? Are the twins smaller? I have wondered this for a long time, but it doesn't really matter.

We had two connecting "secret porthole rooms" on the Disney Magic recently. We asked our stateroom hostess to split the bed in the kids' room.

Our stateroom hostess correctly pointed out that there would be a tight squeeze to get past the bed that was next to the sofa. She suggested keeping the queen size bed in its usual configuration and having one of the kids sleep on the sofa bed. (We only had two kids in that room.) But I asked her to split the beds anyway, which she did.

It appears there's a shortage of twin beadspreads on the ship. The twin beds never had bedspreads. I didn't ask her about this because it didn't make any difference to the kids.

Stateroom 5524, with beds set up as two single beds (smaller that regular twin beds)

I requested this be done for my August cruise. I called DCL and they put it in there computer so that when we get to the room it is already seperated. I am sure if you made your reservations throught a travel agent they could put the request in for you.

I requested it through the TA, and they put it into our reservation record. But when we went to our staterooms, we found a queen size bed in each. So we asked the stateroom hostess.

So much for planning everything in advance.

I didn't know that you could ask ahead of time for twin beds. When we first got to our room the room steward was no where around. By the time we came back after dinner and shows, etc.. He had turned down the regular bed. Well my two kids needed twins (we had a room for 3 people). I found the steward and he did seem a bit put out, but he did convert them to twins for the rest of the cruise. We also did not have bedspreads, but did not care. The twins worked out great for my two kids DD15 and DS 10. I slept on the couch bed and found it to be very comfortable!

OK, I'll ask the dumb follow-up question, which DH & I have been wondering about... If the queen is actually two beds put together can you feel the "seam" down the middle? Is it comfortable anyway?

On three cruises I have never been able to feel the seam on DCL. Other cruise lines that is a different matter. On our last cruise with RCCL Monarch OS we worried that one of us was going to fall thru! Never did though, luckily.

no you can't feel the seam - there's a "pad" they put on top of the two twins - so no seam to be felt

When you arrive in your room, hunt down your room steward - it isn't hard many of the doors will be open...then ask for the bed to be changed. Don't sweat the "tight fit" comment - the arrangement is fine!

As to the size of the beds- I believe Dave's or Barb's sites list the size of the actual beds so you can see exactly what you get but the bed is a queen which separates into slightly smaller than twin beds (not a problem, IMHO)

Thanks for letting us know you can call ahead about the beds. I'm going to try that and hope they will accommodate us. This way we don't have to ask our room steward to do something he might not be happy about. I don't want to start our cruise off on the wrong foot.

I could definitely feel the seam, but it wasn't bad enough for to worry about falling through! It was just a little strange the first night.

We sailed at Thanksgiving in 2002 with our extended family and I put in a request with the TA to have one of our cabins split the bed into twins. The cabin was to accomodate my BIL and SIL however they aren't not a married couple but rather siblings and I wanted to make sure DCL didn't think they were a couple due to the same last name. The request was handled and the beds were split no problem--no attitude from the room steward.

With respect to the twin/queen/king question, the width of two twins together is slightly larger than a full bed (and typically a little smaller than a full queen bed) while a king bed is CLOSER to the size of two FULL beds put together if I am remembering my measurements correctly.

BTW, our steward was quite cheerful about splitting our queen into two twin beds. His only question was where we wished him to put the night stands. We chose to put both of them in the middle and the beds flush to the side walls of the cabin.
