Separate DDP menu at Nine Dragons?

I just read my "All Ears.net" newsletter. One reader reported getting a separate menu at Nine Dragons that only included 5 entrees. Does anyone know how this works? I certainly don't like the thought of being limited on the menu.

Are they talking about one of the options where you get an app included but have to get certain items?

We ate there using DDP for CP 2 years ago and you were able to use the 3 course meal with DDP including appet, entree, dessert from a shortened menu or you could order entree, dessert from whole menu and pay OOP for anything additional. We did the 3 course and was surprised at how good it was. We were only expecting mediocre chinese food, but it was very good, fresh..we both enjoyed our entrees (I had shrimp/steak and DH had beef and veggie-I had soup for appet and DH had spring roll-I think).

I'm copying the text from the newsletter:

"... from one of our readers in the Rate and Review section: I ate at Nine Dragons last week for the first time using the Disney Dining Plan. I had looked at the menu online, but figured it was just an outline of what was offered and that there would be more options at the restaurant. Unfortunately, there weren't. I don't know what the regular menu looks like, but the dining plan menu had about five entrees to choose from and three desserts, none of which I really wanted. I usually get General Tso's chicken when I eat Chinese, but that entree was only an option if you had the Deluxe Dining Plan. I finally decided on the steak and shrimp dish, which was very good. The service was great and the waiters are very friendly. However, I probably won't eat here again unless I have the Deluxe DP and can get the General Tso's chicken."

I don't think the person actually got a separate menu.

I think they got confused.

There is a general tso's-type item that is a hot appetizer. I think some combination of them not reading the menu carefully, the waiter not being clear, and vacation memory fog contributed to the misunderstanding.

I'm guessing one of two things happened:

1.) They saw it on the menu, tried to order it and were told they couldn't. Maybe the waiter said it was only included on the deluxe dining plan without clarifying why or that it was an appetizer, and the person misunderstood the situation.

2.) They didn't see it as an entree, asked for it, and the waiter misunderstood and told them it was only available if they had the deluxe DDP, again, without explaining clearly that it was an appetizer.

That's another good possibility. Maybe they only got information about the Family Dinner Set, or thought that the components would be interchangeable.

I agree with all this and just wanted to add one thing. Most WDW restuarants only have 5 or 6 entrees to choose from and 3 or so desserts. That seems pretty much the standard at most of the places I've eaten that have a menu.

Thanks so much! I am looking forward to having sesame chicken again :cool1:. I was worried it wouldn't be included in the DDP.

I've never seen any other confirmation of any limited menus reserved just for DDP guests anywhere, and it'd be all over the place here if it were really going on. I believe this person misunderstood that most WDW restaurants do not have an extensive menu for anyone, much less dining plan guests.

Besides, they were making the mistake of assuming that the menu posted on All Ears would be the same menu they received when they got to the restaurant.
