Separate Bedroom?

What options are there for staying on site with a separate bedroom for Mom and Dad? They are a family of 4 with girls age 4/8. They enjoyed a recent off site stay are interested on being on property next time.

My favorite option -- 1br at a DVC resort (favorite is BCV). You not only get a separate bedroom with King sized bed for the parents, but also get a nice jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower, two separate sink areas for getting ready, a private living room with fold-out sofa bed for the kids, and a great kitchen with fridge, microwave, oven, etc....all within walking distance of Epcot, and at a cheaper price than most all suites! I use my AAA discount of 15% when booking, and feel it is a pretty good value.

As tigger1972 said, the DVC resorts would fit the bill. However a cheaper option would be the All Star Music Family Suites. They would also have two bathrooms in that option. And it would be cheaper with fun theming that would really appeal to those kids. Tell them to check out the slideshows on allearsnet.com There is not a full kitchen, but rather a mini kitchen. If you check out the below link, you can see photos of the suites.

Oh and the one bedroom units at the DVC resorts have a washer and dryer right inside them. Those DVC resorts also have full service restaurants and pools with slides and hottubs. The values do not have those ameniteis which is why they are cheaper.

There are the cabins at Fort Wilderness too. They have a bedroom with a double and bunks, murphy bed in the lving room and full kitchen.

It would depend on how well you all get along. Personally, if we went to Disney World with my son and his family (daughter 9 and son just turned a year), I'd put them in their own room and us in another one at a value resort and request connecting rooms. That way, each couple could have their privacy and could have quiet time on their own if necessary. The kids could be in either room. That's just what I would do.

We stayed at Pop this past week with two connecting rooms. It was only $20 more per night for the two rooms than it would have been for one room at a moderate. We have 2 DS 9 and 7. They will guarantee connecting rooms if you are traveling with children.

Here are all your choices:

All Star Family Suites
1 bedroom suites at Coronado Springs, and any of the Deluxe resorts (very expensive but if they have the $$ also quite nice at the Deluxes!)
1 bedroom DVC units (rent points, don't pay rack from Disney)
Fort Wilderness Cabins
and if they qualify:
Suites at Shades of Green (book about a year in advance)

Other than that, they'll have to book two rooms and request they connect, and tell them to check in early in the day and reiterate their connecting request.

This is what's been driving us to offsite rental villas and condos. All of the above are very expensive compared to staying offsite.

Actually there have been more than a few disers who have small children, have requested connecting rooms and not gotten them, I think all of those were people who had two adults. Obviously if there was just one adult, that would be a very big problem and not acceptable at all. There are conflicting reports as to whether they will guarantee this at all when you push them for a firm guarantee. I just want people to be warned this has happened.


Which is why if I had a larger family or a strong desire for a set up with two bedrooms and baths, I would stay at the Family Suites or one of the other options.

Yeah, asking for connecting rooms is really iffy. I wouldn't feel comfortable with my son in a connecting room, anyways. Maybe when he's a teen, but then of course there would be other issues, especially if we're staying during a cheerleader convention!

That's too funny, my son is 13 now and I am not sure I'd want him in his own room during Pop Warner! Too much temptation for any lad .

I have just heard too many horror stories from parents who checked in only to have the family split up between two non connected rooms. I wouldn't chance it or at least I'd be prepared for the worst.

Well as it turns out they want a 2BR. They had the girls on the sofa bed last trip, but want them in their own bedroom next trip. I've given them two options:

Book a DVC unit via AAA for a room only rate (they have tickets already) OR

Rent pts from a DVC owner for a unit.

The All Star family suite isn't for them nor would the Ft. Wildeness cabin. Not sure if on site will make sense for them given their preference, but hey I did my part.

Warn them they need to book 2 bedroom DVC units pretty far ahead of time, they tend to book up the fastest, from what I can tell.

Thanks Ginny and everyone else, I'll pass along that message. They want it all: on site in a 2BR unit with kitchen and coming during spring break. So early planning will be a big deal.

I have a feeling that they will either end up off site if they really need a 2BR unit. Or decide they can live with smaller accomodations on site.

We were 2 adults and a child in a moderate. I found when he was out, he was out there was no disturbing him to rouse him from his sleep! Disney days and nights just wear the little ones out (OK the big ones too!).

I agree. I was one of those families many years ago who did not conneting rooms and as a mother of 4 I would highly reccomend a Family Suite or one of the other options.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

The one bedroom units at Saratoga Springs are gorgeous! We took our daughter and 5 of her friends there in August for an overnight to celebration her birthday. My husband and I stayed in the bedroom and the girls all spreadout in the living room area. There is a pullout bed and tons of space. The kitchen and bathroom areas were very spacious and the entire unit was very well equipped.

Actually, last I heard they are allowing families of five (total, not kids) in a one bedroom. However, they won't supply any extra bedding.

Seven people total however, is really pushing it.

Two bedrooms are great, you have two baths, two queens, one king, a kitchen, a living room and if its studio/one bedroom with connecting doors, two balconies! It its a lockoff, you have one balcony. I agree, they go quickly, so they need to think about doing this soon whether they pay cash or rent. And if they pay cash, I hope they have some serious money saved up, that won't be cheap!

If they are talking about Spring Break 08, they may be too late to get a two bedroom villa from a DVC member. Lots of members book their villas at 11 months out.

And you should never stuff a DVC villa. When you stuffed 8 people in a one bedroom, you showed real contempt for DVC owners who really like to take care of their properties. Thanks a bunch.
