i have a dessert party booked, but i know DS is not comfortable around fireworks. we have the headphones ready to go for him, but i still don't know if he will freak and want to leave. if he does freak out once the show has started, is there someplace indoors that we can quickly retreat to, but still see? not sure how the set up works. we have the garden view booked.

There is a restroom close by or the icecream shop that might not be full, (Do you have garden view the grassy area or terriset area. I would look at where it is ahead of time to see where you can go

ear protectors are a great idea.

Thanks. We are in the grassy area. I just don't know MK well enough and we have to cancel 5 days prior. I really have to think this through and see if I'm pushing things since this is a wishlist for me. DS says he really wants to do it but he has only been able to handle fireworks once and it was from inside a car. Does anyone know if the ear phones muffle the sound as much as being inside a car?

What kind of "ear phones" do you have for him? I can say that Peltor earmuffs are great. Headphones more designed for music are not going to work as well.

Enjoy your vacation!

I agree with lanejudy, that the Peltor are really good one ( I have them) if it is a really bad day for me I will also but my earbuds in and the ear protectors over then with music playing through the earbuds and sometimes no music.

ALso @Robo has some great maps you can see where the dessert part is 9but it will not let me link it.

Our son cannot stand to be around fireworks without headphones. At Disney the biggest difference that he felt was that while his headphones muffled the noise, in some instances he could "feel" the fireworks much more. He acclimated quickly, and actually enjoyed the "pressure" in his body from the fireworks. Just another sensory item to be aware of. I hope it works out!

Interesting to hear. Yes, it seems as if fireworks "hurt" his body. I really wanted to test out 4th of July with him this summer, but we weren't able to make any. I hope if we stick with the dessert party it's the right decision.

I am the same way the fireworks hurt my body, I find jumping helps me out, or if I keep my backpack on this is the second best thing for me.

Have you considered viewing the fireworks from somewhere else?

For example - from the beach at Poly where they pipe the music in...

Or, from a fireworks cruise, where you also have the music piped in. (although if he does not enjoy the boats, then being on a boat in the dark will not be a good experience for him)

There are even some views of the fireworks now from Wilderness Lodge, down on the water side of the new QS.

I haven't been to the Parks since Happily Ever After replaced Wishes, but it seems like from the live streams I have watched that there are (overall) few fireworks, and a heavier reliance on the projections. I know that the show at HS is all projections with lasers and special effects, and less fireworks as well.

Thanks. All super helpful. Will keep thinking everything over and then once we do our reveal for the kids I'll ask him what he thinks.

If we stick with fireworks we do want to watch at the dessert party. Especially since there are evening EMH after and we are staying at BLT.

We are planning to do these fireworks as well with an SPD kiddo as well. The viewing area is pretty close to the Plaza and such, so if it's a problem, one of us will just take him there for a bit. He usually does really well, but we have an exit plan if needed.
