Hello. I know that WDW has gone above and beyond to control any outbreaks of Covid. I was there last September and thought they did an amazing job. Will be returning in a few weeks.......(we are seniors). Just wondering if anyone was there recently and had gotten sick with Covid. We will be driving, not flying.

Sorry to bring up an unpleasant subject but....

Of our two trips to WDW, at least one person in our family got sick on two of them. On our 2017 trip, we ALL got sick. My son got an ear infection (not really WDW's fault since he had been getting recurring ear infections at that time). My daughter got strep. I got a sinus infection and bronchitis.
The day before we left, my husband started getting sick. I actually dropped him off at urgent care when we arrived back to our town so he could get treatment before they closed. He, too, had a sinus infection.
Good times!

On our last trip, we took our camper. I couldn't control the germs in the park, but I know our sleeping quarters were spotless. No one got sick on that ten day trip or within weeks after.

So if two...or five...or however many people respond here and tell you that they think they caught Covid at Disney, would you cancel your trip? Even though there is no way to prove that they caught it AT Disney?

FWIW, we returned on Sunday, and neither of us has come down with anything other than a case of Post Disney Depression.

We went in October and did not get sick. I'd pay more attention to crowds and the state of the pandemic and base a decision on that. I wouldn't want to go anywhere with the current state of Covid and the more transmissible variants becoming more common in the US. I actually had a trip booked that would have started tomorrow, but canceled it a couple weeks ago.

Only you know your risk factors as you mentioned you are a senior. I would watch the numbers and the updates on these new variants.

We went in January and of the 10 of us none got sick. In Disney past I feel I always come home sick; walking 20k steps a day and sleeping much less would always wear me out to where I catch something. This is one thing I think people should consider, beyond wearing masks and social distancing a big thing is make sure you don’t overdo it in Disney and burn self out to where you pick up things easily.

edit: also take care of your masks and have plenty of them to change. I’m the opposite of anti masker but one thing that is true is it’s not good to have same mask unwashed for 14hrs a day. Solution isn’t to not wear mask but to have multiple ones you switch out through day and wash before reuse.

We’ve gone several times since the re-opening, most recently over Christmas week for an 11 day trip, and did not catch covid. We flew direct on SW on a 2ish hour flight wearing N95s and a surgical mask on top, safety goggles and face shields. Flight down was half full so we had the row to ourselves (husband and myself). Flight back was full but we sat in the 2-seater exit row. Quarantined and had 4 negative tests at 5 and 12 days out.

We felt safe at Disney due to the masking and distancing. We did a few indoor meals but mostly outdoors (we don’t go to restaurants at home).

Ironically, I caught covid at work last week (I’m a teacher), despite being super careful. Even though they say schools are the safest place to be right now, ha!

There have been some trip reports that mention folks became sick. Whether they caught COVID at WDW or during their travels to/from or at home before/after, it's probably impossible to accurately determine. Know the risks, and made the decision that works for you.

There is absolutely people with COVID19 in the parks. It is absolutely not large enough and Disney does a great job of cleaning/enforcement/policy to make sure there is no wildfire spread.

I will say coming back earlier this week that I was amazed how well they did and how good enforcement was. You absolutely can control your exposure by just giving people a little extra space and if you see a choke point is a little busy going a different route or hitting it during slower times of the day.

Also you can easily leave the parks to get lunch in a more isolated location. Example hitting up the skyliner out of Epcot or HS to one of those resorts and find a quite location to sit. With MK you can head over to one of those resorts via boat/monorail/walk. With AK you can catch a bus to AKV and find a location outdoors.

Also instead of going through Small World/Peter Pan area just walk out by the castle on that side path instead if you are trying to go through that area around 11am when it might be a tad busier.

DH got sick at WDW at the end of January 2020. He was so sick we thought he had the flu (even though he had a flu shot). Got tested for flu and it was negative. He was in bed for two weeks straight - fever, chills, body aches, the works. I made him sleep in the spare bedroom the entire time. No one else got it in the house. Now we wonder if he could have had Covid...

We were there in early December and had come down with sore throats while there. We tested negative on returning home per state regulations, so it was likely the AC at night drying our throats, which we aren’t used to (AC that is).

DH and I are both seniors. We visited WDW for a week in November and again in December, when we had our kids and grandkids along (9 of us in all). No one got sick either trip. We took all recommended precautions.

We had similar symptoms in February 2020 after a trip to Houston and wondered the same thing. Our son and his family, who we were visiting had the same symptoms. He got tested for antibodies, but tested negative, although his test was like 3 months after, so any antibodies could’ve left his system by then.

January 2020 when I went with my daughter, I came back and had a nasty respiratory infection for 3 weeks. However, I wasn't surprised being that some literal snot nose kid was openly coughing on the back of my neck and arm while waiting in line. When I turned to see who was doing it, it was a teen who actually had snot running out of his nose. I asked him and his family to step back and stop coughing on me.

Not surprised that I got sick and when I get sick with respiratory infections, they hang around for a long time.

Been there twice since they re-opened, once in August, once in December. Did not get sick. Going again tomorrow, and again in May.
