Senior Hook Day

We had senior skip day--and they have them around here. Both in Florida

Sadly one year--a promising football player who had a scholarship to play for UF drowned at the beach :(.

Senior Skip Day here too. It's funny how it's called different things in different regions. We weren't exactly a cohesive class, so we didn't have any big event. It wasn't encouraged by the school though, and I think I may have actually had to go that day (thanks Mom! ), but I really can't remember. Wasn't a big deal with us.

They effectively detoured this for us when we were seniors!!! If you had perfect attendance and a B or higher grade your 2nd semester your senior year you didnt have to take finals. So who is going to skip a day to have to take exams?

Instead in our area (west MI, 1995 Grad) everyone went to school everyday and did alright, then the week of final exams all the seniors camp out at the beach. (Thats where I started seeing DH!!!!!) It was alot more fun to live with your friends for the week, then graduating on that friday night than to skip 1 day. That being said, I dont know if DD will be allowed to do the same when she is a senior. My very conservative folks had NO IDEA what went on there, otherwise I would have never been allowed to go even though a few parents did pop in during the week.

My dd graduated in 2002 and her class skipped a day their sophmore year. At graduation the class president told all about it in her little speach and teachers and parents were not amused at all. These kids even got busted by the cops and were told to go back to school. All the kids just went to someone house and never returned to school.

They teachers and principal were saying what a nice group of seniors they had with no one skipping out that year-and then came the Senior President's speech.

We had Senior Skip Day. Not too many actually did it though. In my school, most of the "Jocks" were also on the Honor Society.

My history teacher gave a test on Skip Day. The questions were, "What color is the White House?" "What is the address of the White House?" "What is today's date?"... He also gave a test to those who skipped that day.. It was not as easy. :)

To the poster who went and got extra credit how did you live thru high school my bus would of killed you for being such a teacher's pet! (please don't get offended but I couldn't resist teasing you)

You rode the BUS as a SENIOR? HAHAHAHA! (sorry)

Ted

Never heard of it. I grew up in Cleveland and went to Catholic schools, though, and would have never cut school.

It's called Patty Murphy Day in Mass. Except if I remember correctly we did it on a Friday?

I am from Dartmouth originally so I know of it by Patty Murphy Day! My son had their senior skip day as they call it where we live now. He graduated last year.

Geeze, I need to get my eyes checked. I thought it said senior hooker day, I thought school had really changed since my day :teeth:

Grew up in Western PA and we had in way back in the 70's. My class was too big to do anything as a group (1,100) but we all cut and did things in small groups. My DH grew up in eastern PA and they did it to.

I don't know about other areas but I don't think we have even one senior that rides a bus here. Most of the buses have lowerclassmen on them as it would be too embarrassing to be a senior or even junior and ride the school bus.

I should have read ahead as I posted pretty much the same thing. If you are a senior and ride the dreaded school bus you'd be the lauughing stock around here!

We had Senior Skip Day but my sadistic anatomy teacher found about and scheduled a big test for that day, which he claimed could not be made up. There weren't too many seniors in school that day other than the anatomy class.

We had it when I was in HS - but if you chose to participate it was definitely an unexcused absence and was not supported by the administration.
We called it Senior Sluff

Most seniors here got a free day yesterday (of course so did a lot of juniors) since it was test day for freshmen, sophomores and any juniors or seniors who have not passed the state mandated tests to graduate.

Same kind of thing I guess - but where's the element of danger. ;)

We had Senior Cut Day when I was in high school. Everyone cut school for the day and went to the beach! :sunny:

About the bus if you saw my High school days were in the dark ages and back then very few kids had cars that they could drive to school. Our class pres. the son of a big shot surgeon even rode the bus. So it wasn't the stigma it is today.
Of course if someone did get to use a car we could chip in .50-$1.00 each and drive around all day. so there!

We had it in Arizona in 90 when I was a senior, except it was senior ditch day and we all went to a small lake nearby.

we had a senior skip day---we did ours on a thursday because we came home from our senior trip on tuesday night and had to be in school wednesday--so thursday was skipping day!

I'm from PA. The seniors at my school do it, but it is not a school event. Its called Senior Skip Day. They usually have several a year. In fact, this year, they scheduled 2 in the same week. LOL. The seniors usually just do it and the teachers aren't supposed to know about it. The day is just spread through the senior class by word of mouth. They don't go do something all together, though. Sometimes one of them has a party and invites a bunch of people, but usually they all end up going to the mall or something.

Funny story: A friend of mine's boyfriend told me that one year a couple years ago they had a senior skip day. Just about the whole senior class went to the local mall. (they all went seperately, just all happened to go to the mall, it wasn't planned to meet there or anything). So the principals decide to surprise them at the mall. They went and anybody they saw from our school at the mall got busted. :lmao: Now, people generally don't go to the local mall. Just because of that day, they will travel 30 or 40 minutes to another mall so they don't get busted again. LOL.

we have senoir skip day and junoir cut day at my school...i like to think of it as only 2 years until I get to the other bldg. and get to do things like that!

We had it in Tulsa. We called it Senior Skip Day. I don't know if kids still do it. I graduated (gulp) 20 years ago!

I was in HS in RI back in the 60s, and we called it Bunk Day, and took place in early June. There weren't really any big malls back then (we went to downtown Providence to shop) so people generally went to the beach. I don't recall it being limited to seniors, however. ;) And yes, if you were caught, you got in trouble.
