Has anyone ever heard of senior hook day? In case you've never heard of the day it's when the seniors skip school all on one day and go do something as a group. This has always been a tradition in our schools growing up in MD. I grew up in a different area then the one we live in now but we all still had senior hook day. I was just seeing younger DD off at the bus stop and casually mentioned it being senior hook day to a father there. I was giving him a heads up that today was the day in case he saw an inordinate amount of teens around. We live up against a high school. He had no clue what I was talking about. He is from PA I believe so maybe they don't have that? Or maybe MD is the only state that does? So does anyone else have this or are we the only ones?

We had Senior Skip Day and did we have fun :teeth: We went to the river and had a GREAT day.........10 yrs ago :rolleyes1 I am in Louisiana ..maybe it is a regional thing? I dunno

I grew up in NJ, and we had it. Except we called it Senior Cut Day. Same thing, though. :sunny:

We called it Senior Skip day, it was on the school calendar every year. Most of the schools around here have something like this.

It's called Patty Murphy Day in Mass. Except if I remember correctly we did it on a Friday?

Well I'm glad we aren't the only ones then! LOL! I was beginning to wonder about that after talking to my neighbor. We have different names for it like you all. Some refer to it as hook day, some skip day, and some cut day. No matter what we call it my neighbor looked at me like I had two heads! He has lived here for 20 years and has never heard of this.

We just called ours senior skip day, and yes almost all of the seniors skipped that day.

We called it Senior Skip Day and our it was considered and excused absent.

We called is Senior Skip Day. We had a soccer game on that day, and if we skipped, we couldn't play. But our coach said we could leave at Noon, so that's what we did.

Senior Skip day here in MN! I know we did it - just can't remember what we did....

We had one in the high school I attended my Senior year. It was at the very start of the school year though. A big bunch of Seniors (mostly jocks) went up to a water tower that overlooks the school and painted the big ol' "87" on it. After doing that deed everyone went to the mall where the rest of the kids were hanging out. It's a tradition there (Beckley WV) - I've not been to Beckley in 6 or 7 years so I don't know if they're still doing it.

We had it called Senior "Reading" Day.

Our story was we were going to do a senior skip day, but the class president had 4 year perfect attendance going. We went to the principal and had them sanction the skip day so it did not count as an absence. They just claimed that all the seniors were home reading before exams. Then again this was a very small school (about 40 in my class)

I'm from Pa...we call it Senior Bag Day here...yeah, it's quite the tradition :teeth:

Its senior cut day here. My senior class had a big argument of choosing what day to do it. Our prom was on May 24, a thursday. Then it was memorial day weekend so we had off May 25, 28, & 29. Some seniors wanted it on the 30th for a long weekend, and some wanted it on June 1st. Well, that weekend was my birthday and on the 29th all my friends went to Great Adventure and got back late. So we spent the 30th at home sleeping.

Around here the school is not a fan of senior cut day. The teachers know about it, most don't care and encourage it. Others pretend not to know and the last few hate it. My senior year the principal tried to threaten the entire senior class with in-school-suspension. Yeah, I'd like to see how he could do that. All 200 students in one classroom on one day which would mean that there would be no senior classes. So yeah, no one paid attention and nothing was done. That was a fun weekend, wish I could do it again. :thumbsup2

We called it Senior Skip Day. It is NOT considered OK by the school. But my class was so not together it didn't really happen with our class the way it did with others (We also couldn't get it together to do the cap toss at graduation  ). I went to school on skip day and got tons of extra credit from most of my classes just for being there.

I skipped on a couple of different days. One to drive from SE Iowa to Six Flags outside St. Louis, the other to go to a party and fishing, but we never could find that group, so we went to the town about 40 miles away where the "good" mall was and hung out there and at the military recruiters office. (Strange I know, but I took the ASVAB test and did very well, I knew all the recruiters by first name beause they called so often. I actually went to the Army recruiters wedding reception).

Grew up in Western PA and we had in way back in the 70's. My class was too big to do anything as a group (1,100) but we all cut and did things in small groups. My DH grew up in eastern PA and they did it to.

To the poster who went and got extra credit how did you live thru high school my bus would of killed you for being such a teacher's pet! (please don't get offended but I couldn't resist teasing you)

;)

I was never stuffed in a locker although I would have fit. :teeth:

Not to worry, I was plenty wild, just didn't hang out with that many people in my class those last couple years of high school.

ETA: I found out after the fact that it was just a cook out they had at one guy's house. Nothing exciting, and not the group I normally hung out with.

Now the class behind me, they really went all out. Kegger in the country, busted by the sheriff's dept. However, the breathalizer's weren't working right. They registered a non-drinking pregnant girl as above the limit. Most of them got off, however, the mom that bought the keg got fined for contributing to the deliquency of minors or something along those lines.

Late 70's in NJ, we did it. We all met out front of the school and then had a long stretch of vehicles driving down to the shore (about an hour away). Class of 200 kids and just about everybody participated. If you didn't have your own vehicle - you found a spot in one of the ones lined up in front of the school.

And our principal also threatened in school suspension. Funny how His car ended up a half flight of stairs in the commons area.

Senior Skip Day here. It's organized and widespread but also an unexcused absence. My DH had a fit that our son was planning to skip but allowed it once I talked to the mom of the student who is number 1 in his class. There are a couple of teachers who always schedule a test on Senior Skip Day, but DS's teachers all went along with it and did reviews that day.

My school did not have Senior Skip Day, but my boyfriend and I arranged our own a couple weeks before school was out.
