Can I buy postage at CC? I can mail postcards from there, right?? Do I need to buy it with cash??

I was planning on bringing some mailing labels and dropping a few in the mail while there....

THe post office operates on ONLY cash, not KTTW charge. Post cards were 65 cents. They use BAHAMIAN stamps, so you can't bring from the US. Bring change or dollar bills--they often won't have change for you, especially early in the day. People who have nothing smaller than a $20 bill are out of luck!

You do have another option. You can pay GS for the stamps to have the postcards mailed for you. There are times that the post office doesn't open, or doesn't open on time (the post mistress has to come by small boat from another island). If this happens, GS will get your cards mailed from CC on the next cruise. Even if the PO does open, this approach saves you stopping at the PO, worrying about change, etc. You can handle it all before your Castaway day unless you want the thrill of standing in the Post Office line on Castaway.

And...if anyone cares...post cards from Grand Cayman are 25 cents US and they are not allowed to give change in US money. So you either have the right change or will get back Cayman Dollars.

And don't forget that you will have probably long since forgotten that you've sent someone/yourself a postcard from Castaway Cay by the time they/you actually receive it.:goodvibes

you are correct...it's took us nearly 2 months to receive our postcard when we sailed in May. It was fun to send it but took WAY too long to get it. I didn't have to wait in any line at CC, but I won't be doing it again. It would be acceptable to receive it in a couple of weeks, but months was crazy!

We learned this the hard way when I went to send 5 postcards and was short a quarter. DD is now the proud owner of a $5 Caymian bill. She's ecstatic but I'm less so.

And I've found the best souvenier at the CC postoffice is to ask for your coin change back in Bahamian money. My DD loves to collect change from other countries now. She thought it was the best thing in the world and all is cost was the change from a dollar bill after I mailed a postcard.

How about sending postcards right before I get on the ship?? Is it possible that there is a mailbox right at Port Canaveral? Do they sell postcards at the shop at port? This would be awesome!! It would also give me something to do while waiting to board!!

I would also suggest bringing your own pen to fill out your cards if you plan on buying them on the island. We had to wait in line for the one available pen at the postoffice.

We sent ourselves a post card home from castaway Cay and it arrived in 3 weeks. I was surprised to see it so fast. When we stopped at the post office the line was short and I paid for my stamp in change but addressed it on the ship so I didnt have to do that there aw well.

I'll have to agree with the others......by the time you get it, you will have forgotten that you sent it!! I sent a postcard to my coworkers and I was back to work for almost a month before they got it!
