Sending a thank you after interview

Wow for some reason all those replies weren't showing up in my subscribed threads!

So my husband had his interview yesterday morning. They interviewed 3 people out of 60 applicants. I didn't read all of the responses until today so he ended up hand delivering a simple thank you card and also writing a couple sentence thank you email to the 2 people who interviewed him.

They said they expected to make a decision fairly quickly and there would be another interview with the Director of Instruction. They also told him they still had to check a few references. We were really hoping to hear something yesterday afternoon so I am already a little disappointed that we didn't. However, my husband spoke to one of his references yesterday afternoon and he said that he was contacted after my husband's interview. So, do you think thats a good sign or is it a requirement of all people being interviewed to contact their references? My thought process is if they weren't interested in a candidate, why would they continue to pursue speaking with his/her references?

I know I am over analyzing this situation to death but we have waited so long for this breakthrough and waiting through the weekend is torture!

It's absolutely a good sign.

They wouldn't waste their time speaking to references if he wasn't still in the running for the job. And the fact that they were contacted the same day as the interview certainly makes it sound as though they were interested.

Fingers and toes crossed. Let us know when you hear, OK?

Thank you for keeping everything crossed! I will keep you all updated when/if we hear something.

He also has another interview scheduled on August 12th at a different school district, but we are hoping he won't have to go to that one!!

My husband only checks references on teachers that he is seriously considering for a job, and he definitely takes those references into account (more than one teacher has lost the job due to what he found out from references).

Just wanted to update everyone that my husband had a 2nd interview today and they offered him the job!! We are beyond thrilled! Thanks for all your advice about the thank you notes!
