Senate passes stimulus package...

No it did not, WWII ended the great depression...

That's what I was thinking. So what that means is that we need something to put the work force back into place, something urgent. Aside from WWIII, what would do that? There's got to be an answer besides another World War, doesn't there? :confused3

Just off the top of my head, what if every single able bodied American that was not working at this time had to work for the government; building roads, building bridges, state parks - plus management, tech, etc for these jobs. Would that even come close?? I have to add: I don't mean stay at home moms or caregivers, etc. I don't EVEN want to start that nightmare of posts...

Hoover and then FDR both tried to spend us out of the Great Depression. Lots of economists believe that it made it much worse and lasted longer. Was that better?

If not, how much stimulus was created out of the last round of checks that were distributed last year???

I said "I hope something works" to which you replied (of course) "it won't". I beg to differ WWII helped us out of the depression so "something" did work, that "something" was WWII. Can you agree that WWII could be considered "something" or are you saying WWII was "nothing" instead of "something"?

You're right, nothing is going to work we are all doomed....DOOMED and I think we should all run around in a panic screaming. Let's all do that right now. Everyone get up from your computer, grab your hair, pull it a little, okay now hold on to it, now run around the room screaming like this

I'm so disillusioned. I really thought the Democrats were going to be different.

This stimulus package won't be it. That was the point, history shows us this to be true.

I know everyone isn't happy with this, but lets not let fear get the better of us. I was very fearful of some of the things former presidents have done and some decisions that were made but we are all still here, so it must not have been too bad right? Let's see what happens before letting doom and gloom set in.

Doom and gloom set in on November 4, it was confirmed on February 10th!:sad2:

Time to start to get your act together. I dont live in the mountians, i live in a nice Boston suburb, however, i have 6 months of food and medicine and water in my basement. When the inevitable collapse comes, i will be ready. All of my legal weapons are cleaned and ammo well stocked. You have been warned about this and still chose to blindly follow the big lie known as obama. Dont bother knocking on my door for help, i will have no pity for you. You wanted change.....welcome to your change!!!!

:thumbsup2

But HOW? By govt spending. The govt paid for so many ships and tanks and bombs and guns that we all had jobs and the economy flourished.

so your saying Iraq was not a "useless" war as we are spending a lot of money on it, that should be stimulating the economy right... oh wait maybe not.

Better Idea #1-Do NOT give a $1,000,000,000,000.00 blank check to a bunch of politicians. They already proved they couldn't be trusted with the $350B bank bail-out that no one can account for and STILL didn't loosen up the credit industry.

:sad2:

No...an actual idea. Not snark, not contempt. What would YOU do instead. So far, at least one person offered up something.

As for the person with the food and weapons stockpile, that's great. But you should probably build that up a bit. 6 months isn't a very long time and I doubt if the country suffered a total collapse that it would end after 6 months.

:rotfl2: to your little man on fire ;)

Well, I'm not liking a lot in this package, but it is what it is :confused3 I pray it does help out.

In case everyone missed it, our hero is pulling out of Iraq...

And, our economy did flourish during the Iraq war. Historical highs on wall street and very low unemployment. Did everyone forget already? Oh, wait... everyone was too busy looking for something to blame on Bush, thats right.

And? What does that have to do with me hoping either the stimulus package work or "something" else will work?

I obviously have to get off this thread before my head blows up. I just can not believe the things people will panic about.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals"

No contempt. The bank bailout did NOT work even after all the "We gotta do SOMETHING...What's your idea?" rhetoric. Wall street is saying this will not work. If you had watched the past couple of days the market was improving. Now it seems socialism is how things are going to be and the investors don't like it nor do I.

How about cutting out all of the useless spending that governement gives us right now, let the people have their money back so they can pay their bills and buy things.

Hey now!! I LOVE that idea, I have paid a HUGE amount of taxes over the years, can I just have 1% back? I PROMISE I will go on a MASSIVE spending spree!

If something doesn't work, then you try something else. If that doesn't work, you try something else. In this case it's a very expensive trial and error, but to insinuate we shouldn't do something because it might not work when you can offer no alternative is just dangerous.

If this stimulus plan doesn't work, then they'll have to do something else.

Captain, the boat is sinking...should we try bailing out the water with those buckets?

No...I don't think it will do any good. The water is rising too quickly.

Well what should we do instead?

Let me think about that...and I'll get back to you (glub glub glub)

You obviously don't remember the outrage when it was suggested that welfare recipients actually work for their checks.

Now there's an idea! Keep 'em coming. Is someone writing this all down, so we can send a letter to the President? Also, which useless spending programs would you like to see cut, specifically? (Not snark...I would really like to know).
