Selling the idea of a WDW honeymoon...?

How do I handle my fiance who is less than enthused to have a WDW honeymoon?

We are planning our late-2008 wedding which, as we have decided together, will be in Las Vegas. We both feel a Vegas wedding to be a perfect fit for us.

Unfortunately, we could not disagree more about the honeymoon.

My fiance is insistent that we go someplace like a coastal Mexican city such as Cabo San Lucas; or to a tropical beach like The Bahamas, The Virgin Islands, or Jamaica. He's always wanted to vacation in the tropics. I'd love to vacation to the tropics as well, and I have really always wanted to visit a costal Mexican city such as Cabo - just, not on my honeymoon.

I've always dreamed of honeymooning at WDW. I always see the people in the wedding-themed Mickey hats and buttons and can only imagine how much fun they are having. I've always imagined staying at AKL, eating at all of the places I have only dreamed of eating at, and just being there. I got engaged at WDW, and there was just this magical feeling in the air, something I can't explain... but then again, you all know what I am talking about.

I can honestly say that somewhere deep down inside of me, I would be okay with the tropical honeymoon my fiance has in mind, but at the same time, thinking of it makes my heart sink a little. You only get one honeymoon. It would break my heart a little to not have it at WDW. Maybe I am being emotional, I don't know.

We'd do a little WDW and a short cruise or trip to someplace tropical, but my fiance doesn't get to take too much vacation time, and with the wedding in Las Vegas, we won't have much time to honeymoon, so we can only pick one place. We thought of a Disney Cruise, but then figured there would be too many kids and no way to escape them, so that option has been tossed to the floor as well.

So, to any Disneymooners out there... has anyone had to sell the idea of a WDW honeymoon to their fiance?

I've never been on the Disney Cruise...but after watching the Travel Channel's show about the Disney Cruise line, I would totally go...and we don't have kids. There's so much for adults to do on the cruise, and it looks like they are really trying to cater to people without families.

Also, if you want to go on your Disneymoon at the parks...just show your fiance a list of all the fun things to do for adults while you are there, and also show him how you could visit the beaches to satisfy his "tropical beach" cravings.

I agree with this! There are lots of things to do that is geared more toward adults that you could do on your honeymoon!

I think I'd even see if you could splurge on the Poly for that "tropical" feel!

I would try and go for the land & sea pkg, if that doesn't work then just try the cruise.
There are cruises available that can take you Cabo etc.
We were having a huge debate for awhile where to have our HM since we are having the wedding at Disney. In the end we chose the cruise. There is so much that you can do on the cruise & ports that is for adults only.
They also have a whole section on the boat for adults. Try and get the info DVD's and watch them together. He might just change his mind!

I have been on the 4 day Disney cruise before and they are fantastic. Our entire group was made up of adults and we had blast. We had the later seating time for dinner and had plenty of time away from the kids on the ship. Take it from someone who has been to the Bahamas and to Jamaica (one of my BM is from there and we got a personal tour of the country by her family!) I highly recommend the Disney cruise just for the visit to Castaway Cay. Disney's island is the best place I have visited for a tropical get away. It surpasses all the other destinations by leaps and bounds!

I think a Land/Sea package is a perfect solution to your dilemma. You can get your time at Disney and he can get his tropical vacation.

Wow, your disagreement sounds exactly like the one my fiance and I had about six months ago. I mentioned the idea of going to Disney for our Honeymoon and he didn't hesitate to give me a firm "no". I tried everything to convince him, but he wasn't having it. He wanted to take a cruise to somewhere in the carribean instead. So, once I was convinced that he wouldn't give in I settled on the idea of a cruise. Then one day I was looking at allearsnet as I routinely do, and I made some off the cuff comment about how I wished we were going to Disney for the honeymoon . Then came the shock of my life, he just looks at me as if its nothing and says "ok, lets go" . I immediatly got mad because I thought he was just messing with me (he's quite the prankster). But no, he was serious. I was baffled . After months of making me beg, he gave in just like that. Men? I asked him why the change of heart and he said it was because he could see how much it meant to me . So here we are, three weeks from our Honeymoon in Disney at AKL (Sept.9-16). And I'm happy to say that now my fiance is just as excited as I am . So, I guess my point is that your fiance might surprise you. Men do funny things sometimes.

We had somewhat of the same dilema.. we are now doing Disney and St. Petersburg Beach. We were going to do Disney and the Bahamas but decided to save money and do a Florida beach.. it gives my DF the beach time he wants and me my Disney. Luckly it was not a hard sell for me but good luck to you.

PS we are not just doing Disney and no Comando this trip for us... I have promised a very laid back trip with maybe only 4-5 park days out of 9

WDW has lots for adults. You can plan all kinds of couples moments - couples massage, golf or mini golf, private dining, a boat ride in the Seven Seas Lagoon, etc. I like the idea of doing a cruise to get in a tropical beach vacation too. Perhaps there is some kind of compromise? A few days in WDW and maybe a non-Disney cruise out of Florida?

Never fear. I, too, had to "sell" a WDW honeymoon to my DH.

And while we are going next month, I still know deep down he would have picked somewhere tropical. But I comfort my selfishness with knowing that once he gets there, he is going to be blown away. He'll wonder WHY he even wanted to go somewhere else!

My suggestion is to tell your DH that first of all, WDW is at the top honeymoon destinations of the world. While there are kids there, there also adults. And very adult-like things to do, like massages and carriage rides and other spoiled-type things. You need to sell him the idea that Disney SPOILS honeymooners down there. Their service (while lacking, I admit) is still the best in the business. The food is YUMMY! And there is nothing more relaxing than strolling the Poly beach watching the fireworks.

Show him pics of the Poly or CB. Show him pics of the restaurants and tell him what kind of food they offer. This is what my DH is most excited about - getting to try food from all over the world. You know what they say..."The way to get your DF to agree to a Disneymoon is through his stomach."

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I ordered the DCL Planning DVD the other day, so when I get that in the mail, DF and I will watch it together. He seems perfectly fine with the idea of doing the land and sea thing, and is really interested in seeing Castaway Cay, so this will probably work out! Can't wait for that DVD to get here!!!

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I ordered the DCL Planning DVD the other day, so when I get that in the mail, DF and I will watch it together. He seems perfectly fine with the idea of doing the land and sea thing, and is really interested in seeing Castaway Cay, so this will probably work out! Can't wait for that DVD to get here!!!
