Selling ART door to door?

I just had two young looking people come to my door. They said they were design interns and had just finished a job in a hospital north of here, and they had extra art prints worth hundreds of dollars that they were selling for wholesale cost. I declined (I finally got a coupon deal at Michael's and picked up Wyeth's "Master Bedroom" for $15!) but it really sounded fishy to me. They had a little red car and the trunk was open so I imagine the art was in the trunk. They went through the neighborhood but must not have had any takers as they drove off a little while ago. I just sounded like people who sell TVs out of trucks! Does it sound fishy to you?

That does sound weird. I'd say it was either stolen or they were going to flip you into the trunk when you got near it. Then they would have driven off with you and killed you. Don't open the door to strangers!!! :scared:

I wouldn't go near anyone's car trunk. They could be legit 'starving artists' or they could be kidnappers ready to drive you over the border. :scared:

we ocasionaly get art students door to door who have participated in the nearby college's summer programs. but they always have unframed oil and chalks in a portfolio and close inspection shows the same signature on every peice (and no evidence of any paint overs) a given student shows-and they usualy show up in groups of 2 or 3. myself and neighbors have bought them, had them framed and enjoy them.

I've bought art from a door to door student. It is a lovely piece that I framed. What I paid probably just covered her supplies cost. We get a lot of people coming to the door for charities, sports teams, etc.

We had some guys come around. They told me that they had changed the art in the model homes of our development and were selling the old art. I later asked the sales people for our development and they said it didn't happen. I would never buy anything offered from the trunk of a car.

Yep, we had someone just last week come by. They said they were selling off art from the model homes that were being sold. I declined - they had a minivan full of them. We just didn't need anymore art =)
