Has anyone ever done this? I have a $50 Express gift card that I found while cleaning out one of the purses in my closet. It's still active. I was thinking of selling on ebay but I think I would be too afraid of someone claiming there was nothing on it after they got it, and spent it. I know there are a few other sites out there, I'm just wondering where the best place is to sell it, and if anyone had any experiences.

I have heard of a website that bought them and gave you cash but I don't remember the name.

It could be but I don't remember the name whatsoever.

Were you thinking of Plasticjungle?

I've never used them but I've heard people talking about the site.

Thanks for that info...this was a place that I had looked at, but I wasn't sure if a place like that was better or if I should put it up on Ebay...

I sold them on eBay in the past. But, the Bidders who've won always have had positive feedback ratings. Now, with this new system, I'd want to make sure they had a high rating and have been on eBay a long time. (You can end an auction early. Just make sure you end it with a good Bidder as the last bidder, as that will be your winner.)

Also, check the "Completed Auctions" for $50 Express gift card to see how much they usually come in at.

I had one for a store I wasn't going to use and while I was int he mall I stopped in there and asked someone online if they were paying cash and explained i had a gift card I wasn't going to use...I told them I would sell it to them for 40.00 (it was a 50.00 gift card) and I would wait there while they rang it up to show them I wasn't trying to scam anything. Worked well for both of us!
I have also sold them on ebay before no problem. I have sold Disney tickets on there a few times for 500.00 each time and never had a problem.

I have done it. I won a national design contest and got a 2,000 shopping spree but it came in the form of 250.00 gift cards. I sold a few of them we had great feedback and no problems doing it at all.

I would take a screen shot of the website showing the card is active along with a picture of the card, keep a copy and send a copy.

Otherwise, how about donating it to Toys for Tots or another Christmas Charity?

Why would you sell it? Why not use it to purchase some of your Christmas gifts or give it to a charity if you didn't feel you needed to use it personally?

I've sold many gift cards on eBay, some for more than the face value... :confused3

Just make sure you ship it with tracking.

Tis the Season to re-gift fa la la la la la la la

Just don't re-gift to the person that gave it...lol

Maybe she wants more useful gifts? My brother would rather have a drill than a sweater from there. I don't care for all the clothes at Express either. :p Maybe she could really use the money for other things? $50 is a lot to throw/give away. Why doesn't she count as a person who deserves the money? Maybe she does need it personally?

I'm in the "give it to charity" camp. It'd be a great raffle prize for any local group doing a raffle or silent auction. Plus ... if you give it away, you can claim the donation as a tax deduction (which makes it the gift that keeps on giving ...).

And to the PP ... of course the OP counts as someone who deserves the money. I didn't see anyone say she wasn't. People are simply providing alternate suggestions. Some people don't always think of charities when they're trying to get rid of unwanted gift cards. It's just a suggestion. OP certainly doesn't have to take it.

Given that it is this time of year, I'd be more likely to give it to someone as a gift or donate to a charity that can give it to someone as a gift. I say that only because there is no way I would ever buy a gift card from someone like that only because I'd be afraid of it being invalid.

Your right. My bad! I have a headache coming on and am in a grouchy, negative mood. I read that post incorrectly, and read into it incorrectly, as it's one of my peeves when women are given the message that they don't count as much as others and that they should give to others instead of to themselves.

Rereading, that is NOT what Disney Doll wrote, as she did say, "If you didn't feel you needed to use it personally."

Sorry, Disney Doll. :flower3:

I know this is OT but I have to ask. Why in the world would someone pay more than face value??

They get into a bidding frenzy at the last few seconds of the auction. They can't be outbid by another person. :sad2:

Thanks for all of the replies. I am not opposed to giving it to charity, we do donate every year during the holidays, in fact, I just dropped off 12 bags of clothes/toys to the women's shelter this morning. I would just think that most charities would rather have a more generic GC so they could buy more of the essentials, than something from Express where their money might not go as far. Not to mention that we are also trying to get by on a strict Christmas budget, and since I don't really shop at Express, it would be nicer for us to have that in cash to spend on something we DO need. In addition, because I've had the GC for so long, it's a bit worn, so not really something you'd "re-gift."

I'm still debating on selling it on Ebay. While I am an Ebay seller, that sort of thing makes me nervous because there are so many things that could go wrong. The Plastic Jungle site will take it for $30, but that seems like a waste too. Guess it's more of a waste just sitting here, unused, too...:rotfl:
