Selfies at character meet and greets

I will take people taking selfies over folks with big cameras, camera & a phone, video cameras plus the photopass person any day. They jump in, they laugh, they click and they are on their way moving that line so much faster.

Who cares if you wouldn't take one - hint: the younger you are the better you look it's those lines and double chins that show up in selfies that are unattractive ;)

Story: My MIL has Alzheimers and she is at the bad end living in a nursing home. Last year even though she was bad and there was little conversation and it was mostly just sitting with her I showed her how to do a selfie. Darn if she didn't catch on and here we are a year later ..... if she sees my phone she reaches for it. I open the camera, spin the lens, hand it to her and she fumbles but she still manages a selfie with great concentration. Are they pretty - NO. Are they complimentary to her - NO. While she doesn't smile in them because she is concentrating so hard, she smiles after which is rare in itself. But when she is gone I will always have these photos of her doing one of the few things she actually initiates, she created and made her happy these last few years.

Let the kids take the pictures and enjoy ..... but without selfie sticks. And I have my kids send me all the cute ones so I can save them.

Oh, I'm fully aware of why selfies after a 'certain' age aren't complimentary. Truly I do. But, why is it people can't seem to have a different opinion here? Some think it's fine to take selfies, while others think it's kind of silly.
What I find to be stupid is the prevailing mentality that everyone has to have the same opinion.
Do I like selfies? No. Most of the time I think they're silly. Does that mean everyone needs to stop taking them? No. Geez, lighten up people.

Some people need to remove the selfie stick.....

Some of our favorite pics from last summer were my daughter's selfie's with Gaston (hilarious), Merida, and Ana. I tried one selfie at Character Palooza with the tweedles, but in my effort to get all 3 of us in the pic, I had my neck pushed back, and it looks like I have 7 chins.

I don't think everyone has that mentality. :) I think lots of people vary in opinions and are accepting of others' opinions, too. I see lots of posts here that are simply people stating their own experiences, but not expecting everyone to have the same opinion.

On our last trip DGrD11 was feeling a bit 'over' (in a 'I'm outgrowing this' way), meeting the characters and taking pictures - something we have loved doing together every trip since she was little. On day 3 we had breakfast at Chef Mickey's and she asked Donald for a selfie with her - the characters all loved taking them and so did she. The pics were crazy funny and certainly not the posed with the characters ones we always take, but the important part for me was SHE LOVED IT - and my girl was ready to jump back into every character M&G the rest of the week!:)
Every trip is different at every different age - new rides they can/want to do, new and diff things to try, and now new ways to express herself and have fun with the characters. Win/Win for this Oma!!:thumbsup2

My 3 1/2 year old took adorable selfies with Merida after the CM asked her to grab my phone because "Merida had never seen one!"

You guys? Selfies are a fun way for the youngins to express themselves! Nothing wrong with a completely different style of picture taking! My teenagers LOVE teaching their grandparents about selfies! It's fun!
I'm thinking it generally has very little to do with having strong opinions about selfies & much more to do with seeking "likes" & pats on the back from other board users so that one can feel superior to the self-snapping masses.

A bit ironic, really... ;)

I have 3 teenage girls and their favorite pictures from our trip are the selfies they took with Gaston. Such fun!!!!

Beware: Gaston actually loves selfies

I totally believe every word of this. Gaston is a hoot! An arrogant hoot, but that's who he is. I imagine he's never met a camera he didn't like. That'll be on our "to-do" list for the next trip.

You're a more accomplished person than I!!!! I just can not master that art.....I always look like Jabba...always. So? No selfies. Regular photos are bad enough.:rolleyes1

Your not taking the selfie from high enough up. Like I sad earlier my dd loves them. I make sure I take them of us now so that I can get it from a high enough angle...much more flattering:teeth:

If it's fun for the person taking it and fun for the characters, then it sounds like a great idea for anyone who's up to it! I imagine the characters would be a little more silly than the traditional posed pictures, so it would make for some unique photos and memories!

I think sometimes selfies look way better than pictures taken by other people. Plus you can actually see what you look like before taking it!

I would love to get some selfies with the characters... i wonder if i'll have the guts to do it lol

I never ever do selfies... but a couple trips ago Chip saw my phone sitting on the table (I was having dinner at The Grill at the Land), and made it quite clear we were going to take one. I was so taken aback that Chip even knew what a smart phone was that I went along with it. It's actually kind of cute (75% Chip and 25% me) and I use it as a profile picture in several places.

Anyone else hate selfies!

I think the issue with selfies is when it affects others. I.E. on rides, people walking and doing it and then bumping into people because they aren't aware of their surroundings, etc. But when done in the right way (stationary and off to the side) I don't see any problems with them.

I am 37 and my DD 8 loves taking selfies. I took a selfie with Darth Vader last year at the Villains Unleashed and it was awesome. was it my best picture no but it was a selfie with Vader that goes on FB and my DD thought it was hysterical.

I see no problems with selfies in general. Never understood why people have issues with them. Just as long as you don't impact other's enjoyment it is fine.
