I thought I had read that selfie sticks weren't allowed in Disney parks. Is that right?

I really enjoy watching people's vacation videos while waiting for our travel date to get here and it seems like people are still using them. Anyone know if the are allowed or not allowed in the parks?

Extendable selfie sticks are no longer allowed. Short camera handles (such as a GoPro Bobber) are allowed as long as they don't extend. I've seen a few current GoPro type Disney vacation videos filmed using this type of handle. We brought one into the parks without any problems and saw several people using them as well.

As the others have said, they're absolutely not allowed and you can't take your "drone" in either!

People still do a fine job at taking selfies with NON-extendable, allowed, selfie sticks, though.

(and I'm not defending them b/c I use them. hate 'em. hate the term "selfie". and they tend to look silly. just ask someone walking by to take your picture; it'll come out better anyway!)

I was at Disneyland the week before the selfie stick ban had been put in place. The situation was completely out of control, and I can definitely see why the parks decided to stop people from bringing them. There was even a point on the Haunted Mansion, where you could see a long row of doom buggies, each with protruding sticks and phones coming out of the side. And as the guests in front of us were holding theirs up, ruining our view with their bright phone screen, and also filming us during the attraction.

We encountered people with selfie-sticks 3 times this past week during security check. 2 times it was confiscated, and one time they told them they had a choice: Place in a locker the person pays for, throw away, or return it to their car/resort first.

Saw a family have their extendable one confiscated on EE at AK. CM told them they could pick it up at the end of the ride. Which didn't happen because after the ride I saw another CM (clearly a supervisor) tagging it and putting it in the lost and found room. She was not happy and complained about it getting past security.

We saw someone using one in Epcot back in March. A professionally dressed CM appeared out of nowhere, confronted the guest and confiscated the stick. I was impressed.

At MK they have a table up set up right by security. I was standing near it waiting for DW to clear baggage and the CM was tagging one after another to be claimed later the whole time I was standing there.

We saw a CM confiscating a selfie stick in MK in June. The man was very angry and did not want to give up his selfie stick, but the CM was very calm and did not back down.

I had also heard that another reason they were being banned was to prevent people from holding them out of the rides while riding. On rides like BTMRR, Space Mnt, etc there could be some serious issues holding your arms away from the vehicle.

I agree, not too fond of them myself. I do enjoy it when a mom/dad use the non-extendable kind to record them with their kids on some rides, although I can see how it might pose a risk if it were accidentally dropped while the ride is going.

Love those Disney family vaca videos, especially the ones set to music!

I love Disney CMs. They certainly earn their money.

This is the reason they are banned. They don't care about people using them in the parks walking around, but it was the people using them on the rides. People don't listen to not pulling them out on rides so they implemented the all out ban

We are in EPCOT and just walked by a family using one in France. Guess they can't catch them all
