Selfie Sticks??

A friend of mine is a CM at Space Mountain. While we were visiting her during our trip earlier this month, she told us about how they had to emergency stop and evacuate the ride all because someone pulled a stick out during the big climb in the beginning of the ride. And it wasn't an immediate stop either - it was after repeated attempts over the loud speaker asking the rider to put their selfie stick away. Because of that one person, Space Mountain was "broken down" for 2 hours - and really, what kind of a photo were you going to get INSIDE Space Mountain?

While I find them annoying, I can see the merit in them in some occasions, like character dining as mentioned previously, or in any ways where the user is still being courteous to those around them. But as is life, several bad apples ruin it for everyone else. Good riddance I say.

A-men! How many parades have I watched through the screen of someone's iPad? And don't get me started on the fireworks!
If someone put an iPad in my sight line of a parade I would spit on their iPad with no remorse.

@jec6613, thanks for the reply. However, do you anticipate having an issue getting the Gorillapod into the park with this new restriction?
None at all. My Gorillapod is the only tripod that comes on WDW vacations, and it's not a danger to anyone else (the darn thing takes so long to set up anyway ...). It's even less of a danger than a normal tabletop tripod (which sometimes have pointy bits), or my bare camera (which is heavy magnesium).

It's official in DLR! No selfie sticks rule went into effect today. There were CMs with bags of confiscated selfie sticks! I think there were quite a few guests that were unaware of the new policy.

they were banned from rides a few weeks ago.
they were banned from all disney parks a few days ago.
Actually they weren't banned from Disneyland until today. The rides yes, but not the park. I was just there. Today was the first day the new signs went up and they were confiscating selfie sticks. Yesterday they were allowing them into the parks.

please let them ban IPADS next...

I wish!!!! Sadly, that will never happen. Well, unless a frivolous lawsuit happens over one. Person goes up to characters, character knocks obnoxious iPad out of guests hand, guest sues Disney for $1M for damages, their children being scarred and emotional distress every time they see a Disney commercial. BOOM! iPads banned!! Hmmmmmm!!! :scratchin :rotfl2:

Oh, thank goodness! On our last trip I basically had the "shell" next to me on Journey of the Little Mermaid's selfie stick in my face every time their shell lined up with ours.
