Selfie Sticks??

Personally, I've never had a problem with selfie sticks. Now iPads...a different animal altogether. ;)

Well, two things I've learned about both selfie sticks and iPads. First, when it comes to selfie sticks, I guarantee you my heavy camera strap and magnesium body camera will win. Just as the moron who got it stuck and tried to pull it free (before I could react) and ended up breaking it in half and sending their phone off a bridge.

Second, with iPads, their screens are fairly reflective ... and my speedlight wins every time. :D

Wow just wow, some people are so stupid. I can't believe you would pull it out on a coaster.
Glad they are banning them but then again I think selfies are dumb to begin with. Unless you are by yourself, simply ask so done to take your picture.

Anyway, maybe I missed it but what ride was it on that had to stop and was the stick what caused the stop directly or did a cm override a stop for example?

I don't know...taking a few photos during your vacation is nice to put on the desk at work or next to the family photo at home, but its kinda weird to see how some people are viewing so much of their vacation through a screen or a lense. The whole selfie thing is narcistic and such a big part of the culture now...especially the under 30 crowd. It cracks me up when I see dozens of photos posted on face book by someone... here is me getting ready to eat at Joe blows restaurant. Here is me tilting my head to the side with a slight squint looking so awesome. Check out my black and white glamour shot near the beach. Oh brother! Glad Disney is trying to curb it a little.

Not yet,I "think" tomorrow(June 26) is the "RUMORED" start date.
They did in fact start the ban yesterday.:)

Reports are this is the announcement they are making on the Monorail:

"Por favor mantengase alejado de las stickies selfies":)

Did you hear about the second screen live? Is the service still around?

At first I thought this was a joke about the "joys" of watching something through someone's iPad....but the more I watched, it looks like it is real. Which is an even bigger joke, really. :crazy2:

For my friends, it was Mine Train. They stopped the ride and had to evacuate the train. Not fun.

Oh, USA Today is also reporting California Screamin and BTMRR.

Wow! Come to the movie theater....and spend two hours staring down at your iPad. I can't think of a more idiotic way to ruin a theater experience. How much did Apple pay Disney for the ability to tie in its product?

Is there an official statement on the length that is restricted? I was planning/hoping to bring a Joby Gorillapod, or similar. Thanks!

Hmm... website is still up... http://movies.disney.com/the-little-mermaid/second-screen-live

Just hope the iPad is fully charged when you go in.... (advance to 0:56)

This was a limited engagement at a limited number of theatres back in 2013.

I always bring a Gorillapod SLR-Zoom, never had a problem. Just get the size for your camera and don't try to go up or down a size (nothing to do with WDW, just that I've owned a couple of them).

While they may have the ban in effect already, they announced Friday the 26th it would take effect Tuesday June 30th in WDW and July 1st in Paris and Hong Kong.

http://money.cnn.com/2015/06/26/news/companies/disney-selfie-stick/

I have yet to see a picture taken using a selfie stick that justified the existence of the selfie stick in the first place. Folks are more than happy to take pictures of other families, and they can do a much better than than a cam on a stick anyways.

I'm happy for the ban. It wouldn't have been a problem if people who had them followed the rules. Personally, I thought they were ridiculous to begin with. I understand why people like them, but I'd much rather ask a PhotoPass photographer to take a pic of us than to try to get it right on a a camera held 3 feet away from me. I think from the beginning Disney said they weren't allowed on the rides, but no one listed so Disney did the right think banning them from the parks. They are still allowed outside the parks (ie. resorts) so hopefully people watch what they're doing with them.

I work in DC and see these everywhere... and HATE them. Does WDW have rules against selfie sticks? Or are they everywhere in the parks these days?

They were officially banned AND being enforced as of Friday, June 26th in all four Walt Disney World parks. We were there for the announcement. And saw it being enforced.

Glad to hear it. I do feel a bit bad, though for people who packed one along not knowing about the new ban. I wonder if they had a way to leave it with guest services for the day, of if they had to schlep it back to their car/resort?

I'm in DLR right now and I thought I'd see way more selfie sticks. The ban isn't supposed to come into effect till tomorrow so I was a bit worried but I've only seen 4 or 5 sticks so far, and all being used only for pics in front of the castle, so no problems at all. We watched World of Colour last night and not one selfie stick or iPad in our section. It was so nice!!!
