Segway Vets, We Just Booked, Any Tips?

If nothing else, you'll be more comfortable on the balancing aspect and then it's just a matter of figuring out which kind of turner you have.

We've booked for December. How hard is the "balancing" aspect? I can stand up standing still just fine. But I could never balance on one foot (not an issue with a segway, right?), and sometimes lose my balance just a little bit when walking. Do I need to be better coordinated to try this?

my dd and I did the tour last august. It was great. We did the tour at 9:30. This allowed time to get a fass pass for soaring which we used after our tour was over.

I think we'll be there together! I'm considering the morning of the 14th myself at 8:30. Cool!!!!!

BTW, all.... one other tip I have (and honestly, once I saw disnut's message, I wanted to quote it so haven't read everything else), if you are going to be at Epcot at all before your tour, take the time to go do the "Segway Experience" in Innoventions. All you really learn to do during this one is to stand on the thing, go forward a few feet, turn and go back a few feet. But it's enough to give you a taste of it and any time you spend learning before the actual tour will make you that much more proficient during the tour. Actually, the CM in charge of making sure I didn't fall down the last time (the 2nd time I'd done the Experience) was not that happy with me becuase I was fooling around a bit becuase I felt so comfortable on the thing. Can't wait for the 14th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi
It would be nice to meet you. Please say hello. Would like to meet another Diser. It will be just two of us nervous looking women!! :wave2:

Make sure you will be able to get in through IG.
We did the 9:30 tour in Feb. We had to check in at Guest Services by 9:15.

You'll sign away your right to sue over an injury and then the entire group will be escorted to the training area. Send your wife to sign in while you run for fastpasses for Soarin.

The classroom session took about 45 minutes, then we had a bathroom break before heading out to WS - because we were on the 9:30 tour there were more people milling about - you'll get a kick out of all the bored dads that light up when they see the Segways and want to jump right on!

We found them VERY easy to ride. We are rather small (5'3", 5'7") and it did seem that the larger (read: tall) people in our group (ok - someone yell at me that it is the same for all  )seemed to have more trouble getting the hang of it but did before leaving.
It will only let you go 5mph and "pulls back" on you when you hit that speed, it is a little disconcerting the first time - simply be prepared.

They only point out a few things in WS but it is worth it for being there alone. Our tour had people entering WS for the 11AM opening and because of this, the store were all opening up so it all looked normal. Don't forget your camera, the CMs will take pictures of you.
At the end, we were given a pin that you can only get by doing the tour.
Did you get the 15% off with AAA?

The recall was only for a software update (and it was for all models, both old and new), and Segway sent a tech to Disney where they did the updates on site. I was hoping they might give them the new i2 models for use on the tours at the same time, but it sounds like they're still using the older models. This next trip will be our fourth tour, so it doesn't matter to us, but I'd love to try out the new ones! Sounds like we might be able to stop by Innoventions sometime and at least get a demo.

A little of subject, but can anyone tell me how much it is and how I go about booking this? My DH would love this!!!!!!!!!!!!

My numbers might be off a bit, but I think I paid $80 minus 20% for using Disney Visa (or you could use AAA for same discount) = $64 bottom line.

I always call disney using one of the toll free lines that I pulled off the ADR calculator website (http://pscalculator.net/psfaq.shtml:)

"There are currently two toll-free numbers available. They are 877-939-3732 (this only works in the United States) and 800-828-0228. "

When you get to a person, just ask how you make a segway ressie, and they'll transfer you to the right department.

Finally got around to booking and the only time left was 7:45. Not a problem as I get up quite early anyway... but it's a bummer that I'm not going to get to meet you. Oh well, maybe I'll see you Segwaying around the WS. I'll be the one zipping around, breaking the speed limit and generally making trouble (any wonder why Stitch is my hero!? :rotfl2: )

Hmmmm that could be interesting. I'm not sure if it's going to be a problem or not. I would think not as you don't lean into turns but forward and backward to make it move. When you lose your balance, I'm presuming you "swerve" to one side or the other to compensate. Might still work on a Segway.

But I'm not sure if you want to spend $80 to find out. Depending on how long you're going to be there, I'd suggest doing the Segway Experience in Innoventions first and if that works out, booking the tour. Alternatively (if the cancellation policy allows it -- don't remember the cancellation policy) you could book the tour for one of the days later in your trip and then if you don't like the Experience, cancel the tour.

Best of luck, whichever way you go!

There is no problem with balancing. It was much easier than I had anticipated.

Thanks LoveMickey and Hypermommy. Well, I'm going to try it! I've been talking with someone on the disabilities board who says some people w/MS use Segways. Worth the $68 to try. (My numbers were off before--it was $85-20% = $68.)
