Seems so young to have wisdom teeth removed! UPDATE-post 41

My daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted early this morning. Wow, am I glad that's over with!! The procedure took about an hour, but it took my daughter almost two hours to come out of recovery. When I was sitting in the waiting room, I could hear the nurses loudly repeating her name over and over, trying to get her to wake up. It was a bit unnerving. Finally, I was allowed to go back and be with her.

She is now home and sleeping. When we first got home, I helped her change the packing in her mouth and she started crying and said it hurt. I didn't think the numbness would wear off that quickly. She took her meds, (Hydrocodone/apap), and is now sleeping. I hope she sleeps for awhile because when she is awake she gets upset and I know that can't be good for her.

The oral surgeon said her wisdom teeth were "huge" and he had to take them out in pieces. She'll have some swelling and possibly some bruising. Poor thing, I hope it isn't long before she's feeling better.

Poor baby. I am glad the surgery went well, and she is on the road to recovery.

I'm confused. She gets upset when she is awake? All the time or do you mean since she had her surgery today? :confused3

I meant since the surgery. When we had to change the guaze pads in her mouth, she just got upset and started crying. I think the combination of seeing the blood and having big pieces of guaze stuck in her mouth upset her. She then had to swallow a rather large pill and it was difficult to do.

I know when she wakes up again she'll probably still be feeling out of sorts. I don't blame her, though!!

I just meant that I think the more she sleeps today the quicker she'll be feeling better.

Thanks so much! I just wish she would eat something, but she doesn't have any appetite. So far she's only had a little bit of water. She's even turned down ice cream!! Maybe later tonight she'll feel more like eating something.

I took benadryl to knock me out last time I had oral surgery...I slept through the pain.
