Disneyland is just a 6 hour drive away. We've had DLR AP's many years. Went to DLR 12 times in 2009.
For a 3-4 day vacation I would easily choose DLR over WDW. Having 2 parks, resorts and DTD all in walking distance is touch to beat. Both parks I find superior to any of the WDW parks because of what I feel better theming, and overall attention to detail in the buildings and attractions. Park Hopping can be done many times in a single day to maximize FP's and seeing the most.
That said we go to WDW for 7-10 day trips. What DLR lacks is the total vacation package. We love dining at the many restaurants scattered around the parks and resorts. Even the simple things of taking a boat ride between DTD and POR or EP and DHS is all part of the experience. Being able to stay onsite while on a budget is easier at WDW than DLR.
I am a FL native, and grew up a WDW kid. I have never been to DL. However, I would love to visit DL - possibly in the next 5 years or so. It just that something else always seems to take priority especially since it's only an hour drive to WDW.
I have to admit, i hate living out this way. DLR is one of the best things. the traffic is just miserable. You really cant expect to get anyplace on time unless you allow enough time for the traffic. Just sucks. I'd move but a job is a job.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE WDW..but Disneyland is the true original and will always be my favorite!!! We're out there...just doesn't seem to be too many of us at times
