See a Movie Onboard or No?

Nice thread Barb!
We already have starred the three movies we want to see on our Magic vacation 12/18. On our last cruise on the Wonder one of our sons' favorite memories was being able to go to the movies "by themselves" They saw Treasure Planet twice and we all went to see Santa Clause II.

This time:
Incredibles (DH hasn't seen it yet)
National Treasure
Mr. 3000 (I think that's the name, DH wants to see it)

I too wish they had night owl movies...we aren't big on bars but DH and I do enjoy going to the movies!

I wish they would repeat movies more often during the morning or early afternoon.

On our last cruise (7 night Eastern in September), on the first night they showed Raising Helen; but ONLY during the shows. I had 'hoped' to see it later that week but it never repeated! I wish they would repeat the movies from the evening time the next day in the morning so we could see both the movies AND the evening shows.

To sit through a 2 hour movie in that uncomfortable of a chair would be on my bottom list of fun things....I can do that in the airplane home! Is it just me, or is it because I was sitting in the last row?

Jill.....it was definately because you were sitting in the last row. I have found out the hard way as well that the last row of the BV theatre has less clearance for your knees than any other row. Sat for a few minutes and had to leave...also have seen countless people sit down try to cross their legs, get frustrated and move. It is definately that last row....a very tight fit!!!

Mike hates movies at home but will go with me to see them on the ship....I love movies and would go anytime, anywhere!!!

And another thing, perhaps my 5'10" frame has me in the minority again, but I thought the BV Theater on board (I did go see the movie about the Magic in drydock!) has the most uncomfortable seats! My knees were hitting the chair in front of me, and I wasn't even slouching in my chair for once! To sit through a 2 hour movie in that uncomfortable of a chair would be on my bottom list of fun things....I can do that in the airplane home! Is it just me, or is it because I was sitting in the last row?

I am only 5'5" and MY knees were jammed against the seat in front of me...I couldn't believe the lack of leg room there either....for part of the movie I went and stood in the back to stretch my legs out. I was in the second to last row, and tried moving up a couple thinking maybe they had more leg room but it didn't. The WD Theater had much more leg space and was very comfortable.

DS6 loved the idea of watching the Pirates of Caribbean while on a ship in the Caribbean. It was fun, maybe not what I would have put on a plan to do, but it was a nice way to relax and take a break.

I have never seen a movie in the evening with my kids and husband because it is too expensive. Also we rarely see first run movies- we usually wait until they are at the cheap theatre. I am looking forward to having a family movie night on the ship- it is just not in my normal budget so I think it will be worth it.
I have a feeling the kids will need a break from all the fast paced activities anyway.

I like seeing movies on the cruise too. I just pick a time when nothing else is really going on, and go enjoy! It's a chance to see some adult movies (meaning non-cartoon ones :)) without having to pay a babysitter.

We did not see a movie on our 3 day cruise, there was just no time for it, on our 7 day last year, we saw one, the haunted house, it was a lot of fun, and a nice way to spend a couple of hours....... I do wish that they would play the movies more often.

So Barb, which Incredibles showing did you go to? We went Friday at 8:30 pm. Hubby and I had seen it before and loved it, so we took the in-laws to see it with us. Good thing for us that we had already seen it since DS paged us near the end of the movie. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to put the pager in silent mode and I sat there for several minutes wondering "what's that beeping noise?" I was embarrassed when I realized that it was my pocket that was beeping and not a special effect in the movie.

DH and I love to go to the movies, so we had to try out the BV theater. It was nice to look at, but the seats weren't as comfy as I like.

We also like to do "cruise things" while we cruise, but on our Magic cruise a couple of months ago, we did see 2 movies, at the 11pm showings. DH didn't feel like going to Beat Street on those particular nights, so the movie was a good alternative, and they were movies that we hadn't seen yet. I wouldn't take time out of our day to see a movie, though, unless it was a BIG Disney prem-ear at sea, or something else major like that. :3dglasses

I am 5'7" and had no problem in the BV theatre except for that last row!!!

But yes, the Walt Disney theatre is MUCH more comfortable.

MJ : :D

We haven't been on a cruise yet, but we plan on seeing a movie on board, just to say we did! WE're the kind of family that doesn't like to miss anything, so it's going to be difficult, but we'll really try to squeeze it in.

I agree with the poster who said there should be late night movies.

We are going on the 12/2 Wonder cruise and have purposely decided to wait to see The Incredibles until then. We also do not get out very often for adult movies and there are times when you can slip in for a mid afternoon movie, especially if you have late dinner. With popcorn and soda, a movie for the four of us costs over $50. This is an alternative activity for some of us.

Kim, we saw the early showing on Nassau day. We loved it so much that we wanted to see it again, but we just couldn't fit it in. I sure hope that it's still playing when we sail at Christmas. It's the kind of movie where there are so many details that it's impossible to catch them all in just one sitting.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I can see that movies are a popular onboard event! I do have to admit that I enjoy it when there is a new release on board. I probably wouldn't have seen Lilo and Stitch, or at least not for a long time, if it wasn't playing on board once when we sailed...and I fell in love with it. Just another perk of sailing Disney. :flower1:

I didn't think I'd bother seeing a movie on our 7 day Western, but ended up just being tired and overstimulated all at the same time after returning early from Cozumel. Since the rest of my party had stayed to shop (I had to rest to nip a migraine in the bud) I ended up going to see Chicago. It's a really nice way to relax, and especially late at night or when others are still in port, fun to kind of have the place to yourself.

I do think Disney would be wise to run late night movies though. I often found myself wanting something to do around 2 a.m. (mix of me being a night person and the change in time zones) with my friend who can't stand cigarette smoke, so we couldn't really do Beat Street and there's only so much midnight walking on the deck you can do.

Can someone tell me whta time the movies usually show? Is all this info in the navigators?

The information will be in the navigators, and also sometimes handed out for the week (although this one changes often). Most days movies are at 6;30, 8:30 and sometimes 10 or 11. There are some days that they are on in the morning.

We also don't go to that many movies on land, so we love the opportunity to see a movie onboard

I love the movies however DH does not. If I do go it's with DD, it's a kid movie, first showing in the morning or typically I go myself to the late evening show when DD is asleep. I l enjoy the movie however during the drive home on the highway I have the windows down (the colder the better) and the music loud because it's after my bedtime and the movie rush is leaving. I have been looking forward to seeing National Treasure in a setting where I don't need to wait for DD to sleep, or DH to be occupied without having to get into a car. Am I psyched?! You betcha!

p.s. We also loved the Incredibles - that was the last 10A movie we went to see however I needed to go to it earlier in the week at 10P to ensure it was not too scary or mature for DD. Granted seeing it twice was NO hardship and for once driving home I wasn't tired because I needed to get online to email everyone that the movie rocked. I'd see it again but National Treasure calls.

I'm going on the dec 26th wonder. I hope to see National Treasure. I only get to see kids movies so maybe when the children are in the kids club I can go. Wow.. watching a movie by myself w/o interuptions.. :jumping4:

They also have the movies for the week posted outside the Buena Vista Theatre....we often walk by and take a look!!
