Security Question--is a fanny pak a bag?

I do without my bag so I don't have to stand in that security line at the parks. My whole party has learned to do this, because we get in so much faster. Next time I go, I am taking my insulin dependent diabetic neice who takes her testing stuff everywhere. The bag she carriers her things in is really small, but it's a bag. If i can get the same stuff in a fanny pak, is the fanny pak a bag? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's considered a bag.

I think they are probably going to check it. Can someone in your party put it into a pocket to get through the no bag line? Then she can wear it when she gets in the parks?

Sometimes I bring vinyls into the parks to trade, usually in a small Disney Store bag that I carry. But I have DH put it into the pockets of his cargo shorts so we can just walk in. Then I carry it around the park.

Yup - subject to the bag check. You'll need to have it unclipped (they won't check it if it's on you) and open.

Yes. Any bag on your person needs to go through bag check. Best thing to do is have it in hand and unzipped to put right on the table for security to check.

Yes, a fanny pack is considered to be a bag and security will direct you to the bag check lines.

May be asked to show whats in pocket could be interpreted as trying to hide something or to avoid bag check Not worth it go to shortest line takes minutes

That's a great idea. We will definitely try that.

Maybe the thing to do is just to put the stuff in your pocket. I carry stuff in my pockets through security all the time (my phone, my key, my credit card, my wallet, etc.). If it's not in a bag, then I don't have to get in an argument with someone about it. I really don't think it's empty your pockets security. I carry stuff in my hands through this line (clearly visible water bottle, e.g.) all the time, without issue and I see others do the same (with phones). I've never been stopped, and nor have I seen others stopped. I do see those with bags redirected. But I get, a bag is a bag point. If you take the stuff out of the bag though, I dont think Disney has an issue with it.

Sometimes the bag check lines take 5 seconds, sometimes they take upwards of 30 minutes. That happened to us last January at DHS. We now no longer take a bag. We split up all of our stuff between our pockets and carry our camera and water bottles in our hands thru the no-bag line.

Sometimes it's a wash time wise, sometimes, it is a really, really smart idea.

She might need extra simple sugars with the heat and all the walking.
Our son had an extreme low and went into a seizure at DHS. Thankfully I had his red Gludagon shot handy--be sure you have that every day.
Enjoy your trip!

I very rarely stand in a security line - I can almost always find an open side to a security table. There should be two lines at each table. Also, never get behind a family that decides to all stand on one side of the line, or behind a stroller, or anyone that hasn't already opened the bag, taken it off the shoulder, etc.

....or me....definitely don't get behind me! With all of our son's "support gear", it takes me a few minutes to get through, but that's how we roll! :duck:

You were lucky they didn't stop you. That's usually all I have and I get stopped every time.
It's been a while since I went though, and I always tell them whats inside the two pouches and show them for something quick. Now that you say that I may not be able to do that anymore :(

If people would simply be ready when they approach the table it would speed things up. Get your bags ready and unzipped. :thumbsup2
