Security Question--is a fanny pak a bag?

Another option is to carry stuff in your pockets and also stuff a lightweight string bag too. Once you are past security you can put her supplies into the string bag. I do this in December when I wear a jacket in the morning when it's chilly but take it off when I get warm in the afternoon. I take the string bag out of my pocket and stuff the jacket into it.

With a little careful aiming you can breeze right through bag check. I took a bag in to the parks every day that has more pouches than a pack a kangaroo. I had them all open, they took a quick peak while saying good morning, and then I was on my way. It's hardly airport security, they're just doing a cursory check for anything obvious. I bet they're looking mostly for glass bottles and such, that's why they aren't too concerned with anything you can easily cram in to your pockets.

If people would simply be ready when they approach the table it would speed things up. Get your bags ready and unzipped. :thumbsup2

I absolutely agree. I've been in security lines when the guards every minute or so reminds the crowd to remove and unzip their bags so the line can go quickly, and you'll have that one person or family who refuses to, and I've actually seen security ask them to step to the side while they remove/open their bags and take people behind them until they are ready.

Personally I don't agree with people who stuff their pockets to avoid it. Unless you normally just throw your phone and wallet in your pocket, but if you empty the bag, fill your pockets and stuff the bag in a pocket just to avoid security, you may want to reconsider how much stuff you carry with you.

Maybe the thing to do is just to put the stuff in your pocket. I carry stuff in my pockets through security all the time (my phone, my key, my credit card, my wallet, etc.). If it's not in a bag, then I don't have to get in an argument with someone about it. I really don't think it's empty your pockets security. I carry stuff in my hands through this line (clearly visible water bottle, e.g.) all the time, without issue and I see others do the same (with phones). I've never been stopped, and nor have I seen others stopped. I do see those with bags redirected. But I get, a bag is a bag point. If you take the stuff out of the bag though, I dont think Disney has an issue with it.

I've had my small camera in it's form-fitting holder attached to my belt (like you would a phone) and been told to get in a bag line. Apparently even though it's clearly a phone, it's still a bag.

Another vote for cargo shorts. DH carries everything we bring into the parks that way. This includes his phone, a plastic baggie with various OTC meds, camera, and anything else that is needed. We try to travel light just because the bag check line can be a pain. Never, in all of our visits, in all of the years we've been traveling this way, has he ever been asked to open his pockets. They're not bulging, but there is stuff in them.

Have a wonderful trip!

As the mother of a Type 1 diabetic, please don't worry about having to take a few extra minutes to allow your neice to keep to her normal routine w/ her supplies, etc. There is enough for Type 1's to worry with, like making sure they don't forget anything they need and I would hate to think someone that let my son go w/ them somewhere would be worried about spending a few extra minutes at most getting in somewhere, while the Type 1 is worried about carrying the necessary supplies to keep them safe and healthy.

You do realize your neice could need time to stop and check her sugar level or get a snack when you might not be wanting to stop, right? We can generally check sugars while standing in line and we have snacks w/ us. We normally don't have any problems w/ DS at a theme park, but things can happen that cause you to get off schedule.

I don't think that I have ever waited more than 3 minutes in a bag check line. I hold it open and have all compartments unzipped. It takes no time at all.

I've seen very long security lines at rope drop so we carry just a few things in our pockets. I do that all the time at home too so I'm used to it.

Ditto. And we travel with two young kids and a stroller. I just don't understand why someone would go through great lengths to avoid bag check if they have a few items to carry into the park. Our park bag is just a small backpack with no extra pockets in it. As long as they can see/feel to the bottom, it takes them all of 30 second to peek in the bag.
