Hello I plan to visit WDW in Dec and would like to know what the security requirements and proceedures person must experience before entering a theme park. Any information or suggestions will be most appreciated. Greacia

Hello,

If you have any type of bag, you have to go through a security check. They inspect your bag. I think that is the main security check.

Miandrea is right.

The only thing you will experience will be a security person asking you to open your bag/backpack so they can look through it. It's always been my experience that this is done quickly and courteously.

The "bag checkers" are set up at permanent tables/countertops that you have to pass by before you get to the turnstiles. Thus, the bag checking is done prior to the turnstiles, with a large gap in between. This is done so that people who don't have bags to be checked don't have to wait behind people getting their bags checked.

You can expedite the process by having your bag open and be ready to move the contents around for the security officer. If you have bags of merchandise, they will peek inside those too. They are always nice about it. Some even joke around. Once a security officer said, "Wait a second, she still has some money left! We better let her get in there to spend it!" It's not like the airport. ;)

Odd question in this day and age. Just walk on through unless you are trying to hide something.

Greacia, Welcome to the Dis, the park entry moves quickly as long as you are prepared by having your bags opened and ready for inspection.

Its been our opinion to take trhe least amount of stuff into the parks to expedite the check. Backpacks with alot of pockets are going to take some time, they normally check every pocket. As others stated, have the bag in front of you, unzip the pockets, do not wait till its your turn and go therough the process, be ready before hand and it goes real fast. My wife and I each have a small Disney hip pouch, 2 compartments, and everything we could need for the day is in them, not much, camera, room keys tickets and some lip balm, any more than that and its overkill. We take a mid day break so hauling alot with us is senseless and even it the evening, we mostly go bagless, I just take a small camera case and my tickets and card fir it there also. Remember, less it better and quicker and no locker is needed to return to for other stuff.

They also have surveillance cameras and look at every person entering the park. Someone looks suspicious, they go a bit farther than a bag check.

MissionMouse - although the OP didn't state exactly what they were worried about ... sometimes this can be a worry. Can I carry in handcream? What about diabetic supplies ... needle filled, needle unfilled ... insulin in the box ... original prescription ... what about testers -- they are kind of electronic looking. Pills??? I'm never trying to hide anything but it can be nerve wracking even so!

Or they may have been worried about the wait time ...

I don't think it is such an odd question for a newbie to ask.

If you are a control freak (like me) ya just gotta know!!

Of course, you could be like the woman in front of me at Epcot last week....a double stroller, two diaper bags, 3 insulated lunch bags and a backpack, plus her handbag!!!! It took forever to check her through!!!

Take as little as possible...you really don't need all that much. Even camera cases are opened and checked!!

I have found the security check to be spotty at best. I have had security people just glance in the main part of my backpack without even looking at my side compartments, and then I'll have the power-mad buffoon who will insist on going into every nook and cranny. You just never know who you'll get.

Have all your bags open! and the entire family doesn't have to stand around you while you have your bag checked. Have them step out of the way if they don't have a bag so the next person can put there stuff on the table and be ready. And when they are done checking close them quickly and if you need to put things back alphabetically or whatever some people do that takes so long step away from the table and do it so the next person can be checked. It can go very fast if everyone uses their head but occasionally you get behind someone who has no clue that all bags means all bags !

OMG! You just mentioned my family!! lol.

I once saw a security guard find alcohol in a woman's bag going into MK. He made her pour it out in front of everyone...boy, was she embarrassed!!! lol.

Do you think 4 Women with lime green lanyards & glittery tiaras would catchtheir attention? :rotfl:

I'm actually a little suspicious. Only two posts and the fisrt one is asking about security checks? I'm glad I'm not going in December....

This helps sometimes to have one for each member of your party. It may help at resorts and parking at the resorts and transportation even though they are rarely checked. Your parking pass from your resort will allow you to park at most resorts for dinner or shopping or visiting for up to 3 hours. Also, have one id card for each member of your party if you are planning to go to extra magic hours.

I'll be there the week of Thanksgiving and will always have a resort ID and a Drivers L. I was stopped once for transportation for the resort Monorail and having these items eleminated any problems.

If a person has specific questions about security, I think I would call Disney directly to inquire. 407-WDW-INFO :sunny:

I dont think we should tell any more about security procedures here especially if we have more knowledge than the average joe. I am in security and would be suspicious of anyone who wanted knowledge about check points and what will be searched and allowed in.This behavior is very suspicious. I believe these types of questions should be removed from these boards.

I think some of you are being a tad melodramatic.

I really don't see the harm in asking such a question - I'd have liked to know for my own safety, for reassurance. Not because I'm planning a terror attack on Disneyworld!
