Security deposit problem (again!)

I seem to have been very unlucky in the last two years as I have had to wait a long time to get my deposit back both years.

Last year the owner went into foreclosure so it took about 3 months.

This year the owner seems to be delaying again, waited nearly 6 weeks now. The owner has now sent me a dollar cheque when I had paid by Paypal and expected that method to be used for the refund. More delays, as from what I've read it costs a lot of money to bank a dollar cheque. Anyone know an easy way to do this or do I have to go down the route of asking for a different repayment and waiting another couple of weeks? It was a lovely villa but this has left a bad taste and I won't be staying there again.

I would definitely insist on the refund via paypal if that's the way you have paid, it makes no difference to them but you will lose a fortune on a $$ cheque.

If they refuse then contact paypal, you have proof it was only a deposit.

We've always been pretty lucky with our deposits and usually have it with a few weeks.

We too have always had a our deposits paid back in full and in a timely manner so I am surprised - and sorry - to hear that you have been so unlucky.
Did it say anything in the terms and conditions about how you should expect to get your deposit back? If not you would be within your rights to ask for it to be paid back to your paypal account. The owners asked you to pay the initial deposit that way because of the security and simplicity it offers so why shoud they expect you to want anything less.
I guess the question is are you desperate for the money or can you wait for the extra time it will take to get things changed?
