Security Cameras?

I originally posted this in the Customer Service thread. When we were at DW back in April, our rental car was hit one night while in the parking lot of the Poly. We returned from having dinner at AKL and the incident happened sometime after that and before lunch the next day. One of the things we asked security about was reviewing the security camera to see what, if anything, might have been captured by the camera. They indicated that the only security camera they knew about was at the guard's gate. Does anyone know if there are security cameras that monitor the parking lots at the resorts?

Read another thread on a theft in the parking lot at the Yacht Club..
Guests were quite upset...I believe in this instance it was there own vehicle..
Doesn't matter though! I believe in this instance, the guests left valuables in the car which were stolen...

The thing with security cameras are you might be able to see what happened but in the majority of the cases, you aren't going to be able to see who did it. Especially at night. Unless your car is parked under a light and the camera is pointed in a way that it can pick up the thief's face.

I worked for an insurance company and during our busy season (January through March), we usually worked about 60 hours a week. Our department of accountants were almost all women and walking out to our cars at night was not that carefree. The parking lot lights could not be turned up any more since the neighbors had complained. So, they were kept at a reasonable level. One night, there was a guy who was sitting in his car and got out when one of us (not me) walked by him. All the guard could see was a blob. My co-worker was able to get by and into her car and leave. The security guard couldn't really do anything since the guy drove off as well. He called up to us and we then contacted our friend at home (later, fifteen intense minutes). She was fine and said the guy had turned off in about a block after she left. There was nothing anyone could use to prove anything.

There are security cameras EVERYWHERE at WDW - in the resorts, in teh parks, in the lots, indoor, outdoor, rooftop...

But Disnut8 is right, the security cams may not have enough resolution to make out the tag of the vehicle that hit your rental. And if it does, your chances of getting security cam footage from Disney without a warrant or supoena are pretty slim.

It never hurts to ask, however. Call Poly directly at 407-824-2000. I guess the best thing to ask is to speak to Security, and explain your situation to whomever answers. If they can't help you, ask if there is a central security office for WDW that you could talk to.

sorry that really sucks but I hope the rest of your vacation was magical

Yes, the main thing was attempting to get a license plate number (hoping they could zoom in and focus), but also to find out how it happened (although we have speculated on what happened). Yes, the remainder of our vacation went well - we only had 2 days left. We were able to see the Thunderbirds fly over while we were on Main Street on Monday (our last day).

We figured that Disney monitors everything with cameras, so that is why we asked. I guess Disney doesn't use the cameras unless it benefits them?

Later that evening (after finding the car had been hit), we called the front desk and had them transfer us to security. They re-iterated that the security cameras were only at the guard's gate. So, that had us determined to find out if the cameras were everywhere (we knew they were in the parks and resorts, just not sure about the resort parking lots).

By the way, we saw the security CM again in MK on our last day. He was checking bags and we thanked him again for helping us. Really nice and friendly older gentleman. The other security CM who helped us was the same, but younger.
