My husband is worried about the safety of our belongings while we camp at FW. Our money, passes, and ID, of course we'd have on us ...but there would be things in our camper, refridgerator, TV, DVD player, etc.

It never occurred to me to thing people would steal our stuff at Disney World, but I guess that's naive.

Do you feel safe leaving your equipment at FW? What precautions do you take?

I feel fully safe at FW. Just take the normal precautions you would at any campground.

I feel safer at FW than I do anywhere else. We still dont leave bikes unlocked at night and valuables laying around. I am a believer that a lot of theft is about oppurtunity more than anything else.
An example would be, I leave a couple of small lights on outside my house at night, most of my neighbors dont. Which house do you think someone is more likely to walk up to ?

We've never had a problem at FW. We are pretty cautious, however, and always lock up anything valuable in the camper or our vehicle. We also lock up our bikes at night. Of course, we just have an older pop-up camper so we don't look like we would have much to steal!! :)

I think you will find most campers honest where ever you go. At fw you have to have a pass to get in. The general puplic would have to walk by and carry your belongings off.

Campers in general are very honest folks. FW is no exception. Of course we lock things up in truck or trailer.
Wouldn't recommend leaving anything tempting in plain sight anytime. NO way to guarantee anything, but I really think items are as safe as can be expected any time you are out away from home at a motel or anywhere.

We do lock our camper when we are away, and do lock the bikes when we leave them by the marina, I never lock them by the camper or by the pool, and luckily have never had anything taken.

I would have to agree with all the other posters, at FW you just feel very secure.

On our recent trip we did lock our pop-up every day before we left but we did leave our camp chairs and table outside with no worries. Also my DS and his friend were using a tent instead of the pop-up and they left a 13 inch TV and an X-box in the tent every day, they just made sure they closed the windows so no one could see inside and they left a fan running to keep the electronics cool.

We camped and had our clothes stolen! yeah, really! I bought great new disney logo clothes for both my boys and they were taken from our site. I filed a report but no one followed up. I figure, maybe a worker had been watching and really needed the item for their family.
I looked back at it and realized I wouldn't have as much laundry to do when we got home.
No where is absolutely safe. Please take precautions as you would at home.

A couple of years ago I was sitting on a bench in the Settlement area when 2 teenage kids came up to the bike rack and were looking at my bike. One said to the other - "let's take it". They then proceed to try to move it, but I locked it. The other kid says "forget it, it's locked". I then walked over to my bike, asked them if they liked it, at which point they both took off. Visitors at Disney represent a cross section of the population. Just because it's Disney doesn't mean things can't be stolen. If you want to believe everyone is honest, then I guess my bike lock just keeps the honest people honest.
