security and EE

The geeky dh (I love my geeky husband! He's the best! ) now wants to know about security and early entry. We'll be there for two EE days when park opening is 8 a.m., so EE is 7 a.m. DH wants to be there by 6:15.

I read a trip report where somebody got there at that insane hour, and was first in line at a stile because security wasn't open yet. When she had a goodly number of people behind her and at the other stiles, they were all shooed back to the security station when it opened, and she subsequently lost her hard-earned place in line. I'm guessing that's not the usual way it goes, though.

So how early does security open? Should you line up there first, if they're not open yet when you get to the gates?

Getting there at 6:15 is not a bad idea. Even if you lose your #1 spot, it won't make a huge difference. Arriving that early, you will still be ahead of 99% of the day's crowd. I think that that situation that you mentioned was just an unfortuneate case where the Cast Members weren't thinking very well.

Just a quick clarification, Early Entry's name is now Magic Mornings (MM).

Well hopefully someone that's done this recently can clarify for you better, but back in November when I went, we arrived an hour early and security was already out. We had our bags checked and we were third in line. However, when we did the segway tour, the tour started at I think 7am and the parks didn't open until 10 that day. Bag check security was not there when we arrived, so they aren't there 3 hours early but neither were normal park guests just ppl for the tour. But if you're only there an hour early (you wouldn't need to be there any earlier than that) I don't think you'll run into any issues.

in my experience, security opens up around 7 am or so. before that, the esplanade area is open and you're free to enter and pass through, but then they'll do a sweep and make everyone leave the area and go through security anyway.

However on a MM day, security opens up earlier. How much, I'm not positive.

I've strolled thru twice at 7:25am for an 8am MM opening. Both times Security was up & operating. (was one of the first 3-5 families in our line both times fwiw).

Don't know about a 7am MM opening. It's a very good question. Hopefully someone who knows will read & post.


Given what has been posted above, I wouldn't get there any earlier than 6:25 & if no security....maybe get in line AT the security table/umbrella?

Yes, I would wait at the security area. From my experience, even if security personnel aren't there, a line will start to form at the security area (a.k.a. security table/umbrella).

Last August I was in the entrance area for a 7:00am early entry. It was the first Monday in August, and security (between DTD and the Esplanade) opened at 6:25. At 6:30 there were only 15 people at the early entry turnstiles (and this was during Finding Nemo fever). I don't recall when the security people arrived, but I would guess that they arrived around 6:15.
