Securing Air Tags in luggage

Just bought some Apple Air Tags to put in our luggage and was wondering how to secure them, mostly so they don’t rattle around or shift around during handling. What do y’all do?

We just have it loose under the lining . Open the zipper and put it in the corner. Another there is a zipper compartment along the side and it goes in the net part.

Had no problem with them.

We put ours in a tiny outside zippered compartment. Never lost one. Use them on cruises.

I drop it an inside zipper compartment, put in a packing cube or just drop it in the suitcase where clothing is. Never even occurred to me to worry about it rattling or getting damaged.

I put them in jewelry pouches and then in the inside zipper compartment of the suitcase and the wheels case of the stroller bag.

Ours are in a ziplock bag with passport copies and in one of the pockets that zips close. My carryon roller board has a small zip pocket on the back and it is in that pocket.

Spur of the moment I tied mine in a knee high nylon stocking and put it in a zip compartment of suitcase. That worked so well that it’s the permanent plan.

I am hearing more and more people say the air tags did them no good. A friend flew into Madrid 2 months ago, and his bag did not come off on the conveyor. His air tag showed the bag was right below the baggage counter, on the level below. United wouldn't even investigate by sending someone down to look. They too a report. He watched his bag leave the airport and Madrid. He contacted the police who said there was nothing they could do.

I got these keychain holders, so I could attach the tags to zipper pulls inside suitcases and backpacks. The different colors help keep them straight in the Find My app and also if I move one from one bag to another.

Used very wide heavy duty tape and stick it in the zippered compartment.

We have adhesive holders we got from AMAZON.

I usually zip them inside my luggage. We always use one when flying with my daughter's softball bats. The bag has an interior zip pocket, so I just toss an AirTag in there. I do not trust it anywhere outside of the bag. I know they make those luggage tags that hold them, but I've seen too many stories about them falling off.

I put mine in the pocket of jeans I've packed (or shorts).

Mine sits in an outer zippered pocket. I don't see why having them shift around would be a problem? Maybe I'm missing something.

And no, it won't magically transport your bag to you, but it will tell you where it is---at least, until someone takes it out. Mostly, I use it to answer the question: "Did I miss my bag, or is it not out yet?"

this really is not the fault of the Air Tag

That is a staggering level of apathy towards customers, although there was a time I was at Newark and the person literally in a box in the middle of the airport pretended to not see me for 20 minutes, like a wax figure I wasn't really even that mad but more impressed at the commitment so at some point I just stopped caring about the question and stood there to see how long it could last . As for your friend though, what if he had special medication in the bag? Terrible Was it a total loss or did he eventually get it?

United did pay him the customary lost bagged fee, I think $1,500. But he never got anything back despite knowing right where it was. Well, this is why they say never put put anything medication in a checked bag. Sadly, this was lost at the start of a two month trip. He has the financial resources to replace the clothing, but spent more than $1,500.

Absolutely not. But it does show that United Airlines, and the Spanish Authorities put no priority in using the information from the air tag to recover the bag.
