What are everyone's secret ways of getting cheap pins?

Personally, my family goes on Ebay and searches for months before a trip.

Anyone else have any good tips? :thumbsup2

My sister found a pin for a dollar at DTD when we were there a couple of weeks ago, but I don't know where she found it.

We like to stop at the outlets on the way in and buy some pins (& other stuff!) Those are the pins we trade! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

EBAY - I have my bid on about 3 lots right now (fingers crossed) I bid on ones with 10 or lesss though, for some variety. . . .

I asked something like this in the Pin Section but no answers yet.

We are trying to get some pins together for our trip and we just started collecting/trading last year. We had such a good time with it last year on our trip. This year our little one wants to trade some too so we are trying to get some together before our trip. I keep trying ebay but get outbid everytime I try to get a small lot of them.

Would love some ideas for best ways to get some so we do not end up going with just 5 pins to trade..lol

:goodvibes

I know several people that stop at the outlets before pulling into Disney. They can find pins there anywhere from .50 to $1.00 a piece, and they use those pins for trading.

Why do I not have that luck? lol

We stopped out there last year and went in just for that reason and there were NO pins. Did I miss something?

The outlet that was selling the less expensive WDW pins has gone out of bussiness and moved all their merch to the other WDW outlet there. They had some pins but they were regular price or at the most $1 off the normal price. Sometimes in the WDW stores on property you can look on the back off older or outdated pins to see if there is a clearance price (red sticker), we got some Lilo and Stitch trading sets (lanyard w/ four pins) for only $5.50 once. Awesome deal.

Just be careful on Ebay that you're buying authentic pins... some are knock-offs (real value zero). I try to look for the limited pins... and Pluto. DS wants to own every Pluto pin made... yikes that could get expensive!

But with everyone now getting the cheap pins to trade with cast members, is anyone finding that in the parks that's all that the castmembers are wearing to trade these days (the cheap ones)? Or are the good ones still available. What do they do with the cheap ones?

They probably sell them on E Bay :rotfl2:

i usually dont get the $2 ones (never have actually)

I bought 7 yesterday @ about $4 each, all ones I like, but will probably trade if I see other ones I like better :)

Also I bought my son the "villian" pin starter kit on ebay, comes with laynard and 8 pins about $30 in the park (I think(

I got it for $12.50 plus $4.50 shipping, brand new in pack.

Part of his BD present! :)

From what we were told on the Keys to the Kingdom tour, the cast members have to turn in their lanyard (w/pins) in at night. They get 'refreshed' with new pins and then they pick up their lanyard in the morning (or whenever). The pins are always being rotated and that way they will have some cast member only pins to trade. :goodvibes

I have a contact that a friend gave me. I ordered from them on Saturday and got my pins today. They charge $2.50 (plus small shipping fee) per pin. I paid $63 for 25 pins (no repeats). I'd be happy to share with anyone who emails me.

Sometimes though, the problem is, if the CM has it, they will not trade you for it!

Last year, I bought 10 (of the same) on ebay, turned out tons of CM's had those ones too, makking it hard to find someone to trade with lol

I've bought from pinshoppe.net and another online company I'm trying to remember the name. (I did a search for cheap Disney pins). Both my orders were sent very promptly. My little girl will be trading some of these when we go in June!

Have a great trip!

CMs with GREEN lanyards can/will only trade with children. I am trying to make sure my DD knows to look for them. The other thing I've learned is to look for people in line who are also wearing lanyards - you can strike up a conversation and their children are probably JUST AS EXCITED as yours to trade. Encourage your kids to ask. Those are HARDER, but at least maybe you end up with something that you can trade with a CM later that you would want.

So far I've bought about 15 pins on Ebay ranging from $2 to $10 each... I don't know anything in particular about them, I just know I liked the looks of 'em...

However, I know VERY little about trading. I hope this isn't a hijack, but would someone clue me in on a good place to start as far as pin trading is concerned? What are the main things I need to know? How do I know the "value" of my pins? Is there such a thing as an "unfair" trade?

Am I correct is assuming that the REAL heart of pintrading is actually sharing and interacting with other Disney-goers, as opposed to trying to collect rare/valueable pins?

Maybe I should have opened my own thread?
