Anyone know about a secret path at AK where it's not paved and you have to step on stones to cross a stream?

Thanks,

It has been reported that they let the path grow over. No one has reported using it lately.

and I thought you were talking about the "secret" entrance to the park via the Rainforest Cafe! ;)

Oh darn! I was hoping that they made a path between the AKL and the AK. How silly that you have to take a bus or a car to go from the resort to the park when they are right next to each other!
I would love to see a scenic bridge over the savannah.

Any inside info on this ?

My DH and I found it about 3 years ago and took tons of pictures to prove to my doubting brother that there was such thing!!

I walked on this path this past Saturday. The entrances to the path are overgrown, but the path itself isn't too bad. It still has mulch on it to walk on, and has lights on it every 10 feet or so. Nobody saw us on it, so I'm not sure if it's "off-limits" now, but the path is still there and in not bad shape either. But you have to know where it is to really find it.

Where is the entrance, what is it near?

If you're walking from Asia towards Africa, on the right there is a little nook that has a little eating area. If you step up onto a little stone ledge next to one of the tables on the left there is the path. You should see a few halogen-type lights on the ground along the path - I think they're gray, and the path will continue off to the left. Soon after that it passes a little brook with stones to step across. The path is covered in mulch, so it is distinct enough to notice if you're looking for it once youre close.
Sorry I can't explain it any better, but there are no real markers for it. Just look for a little eating nook off to the left as you leave Asia heading towards Africa.
Oh, and don't mess around back there and make Disney close it off and ruin it for the rest of us! :rotfl2:

Sounds neat! What do you see on this path? Is it a nature walk, or any animals?

It's really NOT a big deal... maybe 100 feet through some bushes including 2 steps over a small stream.

I use to take our grandkids on it. They really thought Grandma was something special knowing about this walk.

One time when I was on the walk they was a young couple(early 20's) and they had went off the walk and were up on the berm that is in the back. Shortly after that there was no more walk. It was fun going on the walk as people would look at us, like where are they going. It is was said before it is not a long walk, but it was really neat thing to do. :earseek:

Wrong path, I believe.

The one you are talking about is off of a smoking area on the opposite side of the tree of life I believe. I remember walking this neat little path during the first year AK was open. Since then, I thought they had fenced it off.

Yes you are both right. It is along the path when you walk from Asia to Africa, and Yes it is off the smoking area. It was not fenced off, they just let over grown with bushes. :wave2:

I believe they closed it once they realized they couldn't fit a souvie kiosk on it . . .

sorry, but not 100% sure if you are saying that it/ they are fenced off or not. If they are overgrown can we go or will we get yelled at?

Sorry, I don't follow. They asked about a path - one which you would step across stones through a creek, - and I talked about that same type of path in AK I was just on. Perhaps there are two paths? If so, I was most certainly on the one less traveled. ;)
But neither path is wrong, as they are both right. Or left, as the case may be with this one, as I walked on it towards the left. Right?

Actually, they are not "right next to each other." The distance from the AKL entrance to the AK entrance is a little more than 1 mile as the crow flies, and along the roads it's more like 1-1/2 to 2 miles. The terrain between the two is mostly wild wooded area, full of swamps and streams.

The savanahs of AK and AKL are not linked in any way - they are completely seperate animal enclosures, and the one at Kilamanjaro Safari is on the north side of AK, while AKL and it's smaller savanah are to the southwest of the park - nearly 1-1/2 miles away from each other.

Oh, then you didn't find the one with the hidden waterfall and the ancient ruins and the elephant graveyard and the...um...nevermind.
