For those with 500 points and up

How long have you owned your points?
Purchased over the last 10 years.
780 VGC
300 VDH
400 BLT

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Yes. The flexibility to stay in different room types, different trip lengths is wonderful.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
20 days at BLT in a studio
5 nights at VDH in a grand villa

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
Can’t imagine selling.

Have you ever rented your points?
Nope. That feels like wasting a scarce resource.
What's the breakdown of your VGC points if you don't mind me asking

Owned since 2014 - 450 points
BCV resale
Poly Direct

Biggest regret is not buying sooner. Too scared of "timeshares" until I found out friends had bought at OKW in 2009 and they said it was the best decision they had made.
We were old when we bought in 2014 and even older now of course, so not buying anymore points. The children will take over when we're gone though hopefully 'might' still be around when BCV expires. Definitely not around for Poly expiration.

Never rented out and have no desire to. First not enough points and second I find it a little scary nowadays. I personally had one good experience renting (for us to use) and 1 bad experience renting where BWV called our rooms late at night on the last night of the stay and informed myself and my daughter (in another studio) that the owner of the points was in some kind of trouble. It was scary to get that call and thankfully I was able to borrow from the next year to cover my room and her room for that last night. I ended up hearing from the guy after posting my angst on Disboards and he did reimburse the $ but I now have a bad taste in my mouth re renting. However, I have had wonderful experiences with transferring in points from several lovely owners. 100% smooth & great process. Have done that with both Memberships for the past 6+ years.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
When my BCV points expire in 2042, I'll sell SSR since I'll be 87 then.

We currently have over 500 and are about to add some more but I haven't really ever considered an exit strategy or renting them because we go so often. I know things change but after going to Disney for the last 10 years on average 6-10 times a year I am comfortable believing more points isn't a bad thing in my case but the next move up will put my MF's in the range of major expense for me.
Interesting!
1. We've owned since 2002, but we didn't go over 500 until around 2015, when we needed a few more points at BCV to reserve larger units. However, we'd been in the 400s for about 10 years before that.
2. Yes!
3. My dream was to stay in a Grand Villa and we finally did that in 2022. Ironically, DH's sister, Brother-in-law, and Mom were in Florida at the same time, so they came over for dinner. We wouldn't have been equipped for such a celebration (a couple birthdays in the group) for 10 people. The next morning, we got the phone call that DH's mother (who'd been one of our dinner guests) had had a stroke, was hospitalized, air-lifted back to Illinois where she eventually died. But we'll always have that wonderful memory of the last dinner all together.
4. We've recently considered selling a small BCV contract, but not really considering beyond that.
5. We never have. Considered it once, right after Covid. But when the rental didn't sell within a couple weeks, I decided to make an unplanned, solo trip. But I'd love to know, with all the talk about renting, do many people do that?

How long have you owned your points?

2009 - first contract was BCV resale.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?

Absolutely. We calculated the cost of 8 nights in a bungalow and that alone was over 32,000$.

We are currently at VGC for a week and came in a day early due to weather. We booked a standard view DL hotel room for 1 night. I was shocked by how much it was and when we walked into the room we both said “this is so small.” The next morning my husband said DVC had spoiled him because he couldn’t believe it was a tub/shower combo.

We wouldn’t go to Disney as often or for so long if we were in a regular hotel room. The 1 bedroom (or larger) rooms are a huge part of our vacation.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?

8 nights in a poly bungalow. This then led to us buying a sizable BLT resale contract to use as SAP points to get a bungalow regularly. That said we have a BLT GV booked in May using those points - we’re traveling with friends.

Edited to add: I looked up BLT GV rack rates and 8 nights would also be over 30,000$.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?

No but it’s nice to know we can.

Have you ever rented your points?

No. The only time we lost points was during Covid but otherwise we use all of them (1470 spread over 4 resorts). If we couldn’t use them, we would probably give them to friends.

I LOVE calculating those cash rates on the high end rooms.

How long have you owned your points?
I've been in and out of DVC since 1993.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Definitely.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
12 nights in an OKW Grand Villa about a month and a half ago.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
I can't imagine why I would want to sell. Some expire in 2042 and the rest will be passed to my grown kids, who'll be bringing their kids.

Have you ever rented your points?
Yes, I've rented to others as well as from others. Not something I see needing to do again, though.

How long have you owned your points?
2.5 years or less. Bought PVB and BWV in fall of 2023, RIV January of 2024, and BLT in spring of 2025.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Absolutely! What we've been able to do already in the last 2.5 years plus what we have planned this year more than makes up for the investment.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
We're doing 7 nights at Aulani in a 1 bdrm ocean view then 5 nights at VGC in June.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
I can't imagine selling. Hopefully most of our points will expire before us and the rest we plan to leave our boys.

Have you ever rented your points?
No but we rented points before we bought so won't count renting them to someone someday.

How long have you owned your points?

First Contract was 1996 250 points at BWV. Could not really afford it back then, but so so happy we did it.
Since then started adding on 4 years ago at BLT, AKV, VDH and finally VGC.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?

And then some! Trips were very special when our kids were young. Now with the GrandKids, we needed more points to take there parents along. Should not miss these times for anything.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?

We did 5 nights in a GV at Jambo House. Cannot describe how great that was. Before that was the month of December at OKW in a 2 br.

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?

May sell VDH for more AKV and GCV. Otherwise no chance. As I have explained before the TOT just twists my undies.

Have you ever rented your points?

Yes. For a little over 10 years our life was on hold caring for my Dear MotherInLaw. We could not go anywhere or do anything. Renting points was the only way to get some value from them.

We currently have 1008 points. We only go 2 times a year. Once to DLR and then to WDW. However we tend to stay in a 1BR or 2BR if we have the Grandkids. We also stay for a minimum of 14 nights at WDW and 7 nights at DLR. More points means less worry and much more flexibility. We also love doing split stays. Last trip was 5 nights each at AKV, BWV, and BLT. Different activities and vibe. Really worked well for us. Each resort has something different to offer. Theme Park View at BLT Priceless. GV at AKV Jambo, decadent! BW view at BWV super! Experiencing all 3 on the same trip, Fantastic. Even our adult daughter acted like a 13 year old again. Great to see the wonderment in her and her children's eyes.

I first bought in at BWV in 1999, then BWV again in 2004 then again in 2013 with VGF.

Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Yes, as I have been able to use my points not only at WDW but also Disneyland and Interval International as well as the DCL. I have been able to use my points for mini family reunions and family celebrations. The way I see it, my points guarantee me vacation at least once maybe twice a year.

What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
One year (over a two week span) used my points Vero Beach, Club Level at AK Jambo House and at Beach Club. It was THE best vacation and the most memorable as I was able to stay at three resorts that I didn't think I would ever be able too. The timing worked out perfect for me as none of those are my home resort

Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
Yes and it was not an easy decision. Life changes and things happen that I had to weigh the pros and cons and realistic expectations carefully. I sold one of my contracts 3 years ago and I cried when I signed the papers but at the time it was a decision that was right for me. Now, I am contemplating selling again and this time, it is much harder for many reason but again, life changes happen and I need to realistically think about where my life is right now. Will I sell again, yes. Will it be this year, probably not (2027 yes) but thinks can change.

Have you ever rented your points?
No and it is something I have thought about and it's still a no.
