Sebastian's STRONG and SVELTE Under the Sea September W.I.S.H. Weight Loss Challenge - All Welcome!

I think your progress graph looks great. You might have treaded water for a bit but you never went back to where you started, which a lot of folks do! :thumbsup2

We don't have any exciting plans for the week-end. We are finishing up a deck project that has taken all summer. But it is rainy now so that may have to wait a day or two. I'm actually happy to see the rain to help our fires and air quality. I'm looking forward to starting the week-end with a 6 mile run with my running group. :goodvibes

Don't worry a bit about fitting into the Mine Train cars. I worried about it, too, before our trip last November but all those scary threads were much ado about nothing. :rotfl:If you can ride Everest or Space Mountain you will be fine. :goodvibes

Oh mindfulness is so hard for me to do. My brain just wants to ruminate and try to change the past and worry about the future it hardly has time to think about the now. :sad2: I'll be interested in hearing ideas on how to improve in this area! ::yes::

I'm sorry that the scale is not reflecting all your efforts yet but it will. :goodvibes When I get frustrated with the scale I try to remind myself giving up never did a thing for me. Hang in there!
I'm going to practice my mindfulness and concentrate on the 39 pounds I lost and not the one I didn't !!! Fingers crossed , thanks for the encouraging words !!!

I know that the scale can be frustrating but remember that number isn't the be all, end all. Your measurements and body fat % figure in too and as body composition changes sometimes the scale won't.
Just keep swimming! (I use Dory for my fitness mantra!)
Thanks so much !! I'm feeling less discouraged now !! I will keep swimming .

Today was horrible for food intake, not sure why but tomorrow is another day and I can't beat myself up about it.

On a positive note I have met my step goal (10,000 per day) 6 out of 7 days of my Fitbit week which is something that I was having trouble doing 3 months ago, even 2 months ago and back then the goal was lower!

Tomorrow starts my "fitty week" over and I want to have 7 days of meeting goal this time next week! Anyone that read my posts earlier in the week read about how my best friend (Vanessa, you all may as well know her name, I am tired of typing best friend) and I "pay" $5.00 per day for every day in the month that we meet our step goal and it goes in our vacation savings account..............well, its MY month to pay the bill and I think it could be a bumper crop month for us at the rate we are going, we are 10 days (between us) x $5 so far  and she hasn't reported in for tonight yet so it could be 11 days once she arrives home and her fitbit syncs - she has been at a hot air balloon festival in upstate NY for most of the day so I am sure she has walked a lot!

But now its time for this tired girl to head to the bedroom and wind down to go to sleep, I have to work tomorrow. BUT on a positive note, this is the first time in 4 nights that I have not gotten up at MN to make FP+ reservations and I got Toy Story last night so I am stoked! All my FP+ are set for my trip now:dumbo:

I end the day with 435 active minutes out of 1200 - that's a great start for me considering my physical issues, I just keep telling myself that the more I do and the more I lose weight (it will happen one day, just very slowly and i have to be patient) then the better I will feel and the better my health will be!!!!

I actually have to correct my previous post - Vanessa gets credit for all 7 days this week because she met goal on Sunday and Monday when it was 9750 then I increased our goal to 10,000 - with her permission of course, it was time to increase it for both of us. So this month is really shaping up to be a big month for our vacation account!

Hey all!

I know I've been MIA for a few days. I had a rough week last week ... I have some things going on in RL that can overwhelm me sometimes, and I had one of those days on Wednesday and then had a really hard time bouncing back from it. I am getting a little better, though, and I'm hoping to be back to normal soon.

I skimmed through the posts but don't really have the time/patience to comment. Hopefully soon I'll be back to 100% and be back to participating a bit more!

As for my update ... up 1 lb. Which puts me at 0%. Oh well, I still have another 24 days to hit my goal!

Tell me your thoughts again, please and thank you! I made this tonight. Is it obvious I was going for a flapper? In the first picture I kind of feel like I'm wearing an Indian headdress LOL. But I think pulling my hair up helped... Plus with the dress and everything. I got these gorgeous black fingerless gloves today! I'm super excited. I kind of wish we weren't being pirates for MNSSHP now! Haha.

Also please excuse the faces. I can't make a normal face in photos ever and it definitely wasn't helped by the fact that I took it at 3am LOL

Happy, happy Sunday, everyone! Just wanted to pop in and say that I hope everyone is having a spectacular holiday weekend! Get out there and get some sunshine!

I'm SUPER excited because I weighed in at 202.4 this morning!! Not a big drop, but that's still down 0.6lbs from Friday and Saturday morning :cheer2::cheer2: That's 47.7% of my goal so I'm stoked. Hope it keeps up!!

So, so sorry to hear you had a rough week last week :guilty: I hope this week is much better for you! Don't despair over that little gain - it could be due to anything, it could even be due to muscle! 24 days is lots of time so don't give up!

I haven't posted lately as in a month, probably, because I have done nothing but gain & loss the same two pounds over and over again. So starting this month I have decided to do something new & thought I'd share it with anyone trying & not doing so well with succeeding at starting to try to lose weight. Usually, I try giving up everything, going full on with calorie counting etc, which I always end up failing at then feeling worse & comforting myself with the usual goodies. This time, I've decided to do one thing at a time. To start, last week I gave up eating chips, all chips. I am addicted to chips & sweets & would rather eat a bowl of junk than a real meal, so this was a big deal. So far I have stayed true & haven't even eaten a crumb. :) After a week or two, whenever I feel I'm not craving chips anymore, I plan on moving on the my next nemesis, sweets! I suspect this one will be harder to let go of. But I feel confident (sort of) that if I take these steps one week at a time, I'll be able to beat the cravings & habits. Lastly, once I've killed my addiction to chips & sweets, I will tackle calorie counting & eating healthier. I have also tried incorporating a salad around 2pm to kill off hunger, nothing fancy, just lettuce & vinegar. Plus, I try to walk in the afternoons when it's not too hot. I'm hoping it works. So far it is, I think because I don't feel that deprived, it's just one item. :snail:

Well, I figured I would check in as I sit here waiting for my fiance to get home from her bachelorette weekend. Her plane landed about an hour and a half ago, but she still hasn't made it home yet. I stepped on the scale this morning and was under 290 again. 289 was an exciting number for me. I also had a great workout after work today.

I'm back and catching up on the last few days! Will post a Monday QOTD and last week's progress report shortly! This group has it going on!!!

QOTW - September 5/6
Mindfulness. A lot of us talk about mindfulness as a way to deal with vacations, long weekends, parties, holidays, stress eating, and other changes to routine. Do you try to practice mindfulness? What does it mean to you? Do you use specific strategies or just try to remain aware of what you are eating? Do you find it effective?

I try to practice mindfulness in all areas of my life. I'm so busy, I have a bad tendency to multitask, and things just start to spin out of control until I realize that my heart is racing, my breathing is shallow, and I'm not accomplishing anything at all. So I take deep breaths and try to start over with just one thing. I've tried meditating and it just made me more stressed out. But I might try again. If I can't handle two minutes, maybe 30 seconds is my starting place.

In terms of eating, I notice that most of the thin people eat very slowly, often with great deliberation. I used to be one of those people. It took me forever to finish the smallest meal and I often didn't because whatever group I was with has long finished. Now I practically inhale food. Something I read recently about mindfulness and eating said that a good first step is to put your fork (spoon/sandwich/slice of pizza) down between bites. There is absolutely no need to be prepping your next big while you still have food in your mouth. That helps me a lot and I've been trying to make it happen.

My sweetheart and I discuss mindfulness daily. Being mindful effects everything we do. The mind is often wandering every place other than the moment and it is the ultimate trickster! Obviously we still have to plan for things...everyone does...and that is when the mind is a useful tool. But being aware that the mind is wandering is also being mindful, then you can pull it back to awareness of the moment. You can be eating a meal and not even think about what you are eating. It helps to savor your food. It helps to mindfully prepare and serve the meal, maybe on a special plate you love, or setting the table with flowers. When you practice mindfulness everything becomes richer, fuller....it's like everything is new. It's challenging to do....but if you have ways to remind yourself, or you have a partner you can discuss things with...it helps. When my sweetheart starts to talk about his work day....long after it's over....we can talk about his stress and what he is carrying with him into his evening. Then he becomes more aware that he is doing this and can make efforts to end the work day....at the end of the work day. He does meditate daily. I do not. Some people like daily affirmations or writing in a journal. I practice being mindful with every chore I have to do....the gym being the latest test of my mindfulness! I was there yesterday, and was the only one in there. It was very quiet. It is easy to be focused on working out because you have to pay attention. Doing the stationary bikes is more of a challenge. I try to pay attention to the muscles that are being used, to my breathing and my heart rate. It is more of a challenge to be in the moment on the bike but it is a way to practice. When I'm doing chores, I try to focus on the actions I'm doing...like walking to get another tool, or scraping off old caulking...and just focus on the task instead of completing the task. It's easy to get frustrated, when you have to go get something else you need, like 10 times in a row....so I notice this, I put it into perspective and just do it. I try to frame it in a positive way, like...okay extra steps for exercise, or...all part of the process of completing a task. I'm anxious to hear how others practice mindfulness. Great question by the way!

I like that you work so actively to incorporate mindfulness in all of your everyday activities.

After a busy exercise week and my highest steps ever ( 25,000) I have NO weight loss this week!!!!
I simply cant believe it...hope I can get my head in the right place soon cause right now i have that horrible "what does it
matter "attitude!!!:sad::sad::sad: and I'm 25 days away from my goal date !!!:eeyore: ugghhhhh!!!

Ugh. The weight loss you earned this week is in there somewhere. Hopefully next week you will see a nice big number!

I practice mindfulness every day... It was what saved me. I have a mind that wanders constantly and it was so hard to not obsess about things I couldnt change. It was very helpful for me with my weight loss as I would concentrate on the here and now and not start thinking about all the possible failures along the way. I especially love to practice it while im walking because its like shutting off your brain for a rest,

Love this!

We will circle the wagon around and pick you up...

Check in today I'm down a pound which is 18% to goal!

Woohoo!

That last part is a great thing to remember! Giving up is so easy to do but it makes things so much harder in the end.

I'm going to practice my mindfulness and concentrate on the 39 pounds I lost and not the one I didn't !!! Fingers crossed , thanks for the encouraging words !!!

Woohoo!

I'll start this batch with my own progress report. I'm up about .6 pounds so 0% of weight loss goal, have done 1 workout so 20% of Pilates goal, and have walked 53,227 steps so 17.7% of steps goal. That all averages out to 12.5% of the way to my September goals! I'm a bit behind but I can do it!!

Today was horrible for food intake, not sure why but tomorrow is another day and I can't beat myself up about it.

Welcome back!! I love your one nemesis at a time plans,

Yay!!

QOTD - September 7

Whether planned or unplanned, we all have days where we eat too much of the wrong kinds of foods (or even just too much of the right kinds of food). And then we wake up with the dreaded food hangover - puffy, sluggish, bloated, and just all around icky feeling. Whether after a holiday, vacation, day trip, or just an encounter with the chip bag, what are your strategies for getting over the food coma and back into your healthy routine?

I'm clearly pulling my question for the day from my current life. I had tons of fun yesterday at the baseball game and actually managed to stick to my plan (whatever I wanted as long as it fit within maintenance level calories). Still, hot dogs and pretzels and mac & cheese bites and frozen lemonade have left me in pretty sad shape today. I'm all puffed up, I feel like I swallowed a salt lick, and my head weighs about 900 pounds. I started the day with 1/2 a banana and a cup of tea before taking a slow stroll with the dog. Hoping to flush all the junk out of my system soon!

I tend to "cleanse" when I feel like that! LOTS of water, and little food (on the day after) until I feel better. I, too, try to "flush" all the grossness out of me.

I tend to eat all fruits and veggies and lots of water and unsweetened tea. It just helps me feel clean again.
