What they do depends on age. My DD14 went this summer to Career Camp. She LOVED it!! She forgot all the disposable cameras I gave her, so no pics, and she's still filling me in on the 'happenings'.
First day they arrive at 5 p.m. on a Monday - not a great time w/ Orlando traffic. Lots of different camps checking in at the same time & then splitting. There were 42 for her camp her week and they divided in 2 groups - 3 adults w/ each. They really didn't see the other group much. They ate pizza, did get to know you stuff, listened to info & then rolled out their sleeping bags by the manatees.
Next morning they got them up at 5:30, into swimsuits & in the ray tank scrubbing it. I know Friday they spent an unstructured day at Discovery Cove, then went back to the park to shop/ride & then slept in their sleeping bags again by the dolphins. Saturday morning they were up at 5:30, sat thru talks again & then played 'duck duck goose' for over 2.5 hours while waiting to be picked up. Her comment on Saturday was that for the roughly $1200 we paid you would think they would get to do something fun right before they left.
During the week they shoveled snow for the penguins, stuffed vitamins into frozen fish for the penguins. The 'touch' session was basically the same as the one you get when you do the tour at SW (which we did last year). I bought the 'CD/picture package' for almost $50 and we got 2 photos of the posed penguin touch and a group photo. I wouldn't buy it again. The CD is like the discovery cove video that has the general tour the park thing at the front. I was pretty disappointed as DD said a photographer was with them almost continually. I thought the CD would have at least a few candids taken of her group during the week.
Her highlight was swimming in the med tank with Shamu on the other side of the wall. Water was 54, however. They were taught to go underwater & make certain noises & the orcas would answer. She was off in another area of the tank & 1 of the other Orcas came over near her & up on the 'platform' & was doing tricks for her - until the rest of the bunch noticed & came over.
They also did something with the anteater & with the walrus.
The 3 nights they didn't sleep in sleeping bags they stayed 2/room at the Fairfield Inn. Breakfast each day was continental. Lunch she said you had 2 choices & dinner was like 4 choices - in the parks. NO caffeine was allowed except at dinner and then only if you had had your required amount of water for the day. Lunch you could have sprite if you had had your full morning bottle of water.
Each kid received a SW rain poncho, a camp water bottle & holder & a t shirt when they arrived.
They apparently aren't too strict on age. Her camp was for completed grades 7 - 9, but in reality was for going into 7 - 9. There were also 3 younger kids, but they had done camps there before.
That's all I can think of at the moment. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask & I'll see if I can get an answer out of her. I know she'd love to do the 2 week camp for older kids, but the $2500 is kind of hard to think about!!
