Seattle to Orlando Airline Question...

Hey there...just have a question...what is a good price on airline tickets these days? Our dates are firm for our trip - we are leaving Friday September 14th, and staying until Sunday September 30th, so I know that those are not the cheapest days to fly.

We looked at Travelocity and saw some of the cheapest flights are about $200, but all of those flights are Tuesday and Wednesday...so I'm wondering if $262 before taxes is a good deal ($326 with taxes)??

I think you have to decide what you are willing to pay, then get out there and check on airfares. Airfares seem to be going up nowadays. And I'm not really sure there are any 'cheaper' days to fly either. Yes, sometimes you can get a little cheaper fare if you fly on those 'off' days. But, again, you have to decide what works for you. For me, flying down from Boston, anything around $200 or so is 'golden' and I'll grab it. I used to be happy with $250, but then fares went to below $200 and I got spoiled!!

$326 round trip sounds a bit hight to me. We've paid $218-$228 rt including taxes when we've flown MCO-SEA for cruises. The airlines don't usually give their best deals this far in advance and your trip is still 7 months out. I think if you wait until July or August to buy you're more likely to find a sale fare that covers the period you're traveling. September is low season and there are usually good fall airfare sales but you've got to wait for them.

Also keep in mind that Travelocity/Expedia/Orbitz charge $10rt fees per person. You can use them to find good fares and flights but then switch to the website for the actual airline and book it there if it locates the same itinerary; airline websites don't charge the fee. Another problem with those websites is that you've got to clear your cookies each time you use them otherwise it may simply give you the same information you retrieved before rather than fresh fare information.

Also consider one way fares. Many airfares are now sold as one way fares and you may find a low one way fare on one airline outbound and a low one way fare on the return with a different airline. While the total fare will equal the lowest roundtrip fare (and unlikely less), you may find preferable flight times using two different airlines.

I'm going to wait and buy the return from Orlando once I find a better rate, if not I'll just book what I can get, but I will still be saving about $400 total because of the awesome rate I got for the flight to MCO.

I got that rate on Delta's website. So far I've only booked the flight down but even that saves us a bundle! The flight is on Aug.20th one way from PDX to MCO. I'm hoping I can get just a good of a rate for the return flight if not I'll book with Southwest. Never hurts to travel with two different airlines if it saves me a ton of $$$.

It's not a bad price! If you think that it's high try looking at PDX (Portland). as they are usualy cheaper. We fly out of oth for WDW, however being on the east side now we've been flying out of Spokane more and more. BTW, we're paying about the same price for our March trip.

Last year I booked in March for November and paid $212 RT (w/taxes and fees) per person. We flew out on a Thursday, back on a Saturday.

This year I'm looking to book for end of November/ first of December. I expect to pay no more than $250 RT(w taxes and fees), hopefully less. But just in case.....I'm budgeted for $300. My guess will be I'll be booking a fare somewhere between May and July.

I check several sites, have Ding! and alerts from Orbitz and checked historical flight prices from Seattle. I think you can get a better fare than what you were currently quoted. BTW, the only day of the week that you can be sure you're going to pay more for flights is Sunday, the rest of it is based on availability.

Alaska Air is starting a nonstop from Portland to Orlando. Starts Sept 1st.
$207 (includes all fees) roundtrip. If you have a frequent flyer number, you get double miles. Only issue is that the trip there is at 9:45 pm and arrives around 5:45 am. Return flight is 7am.
We are going Sept 24 on this new route.

I believe the price was $217.30 round trip per person. However, you had to book by February 8th or 10th. The prices are not that inexpensive now.

I assume the OP was probably pricing out Alaska Airlines non-stop from SEA. If this is the case then that price is pretty good. Alaska Air charges more than almost any other carrier for their flights to MCO. I like the non-stops but Alaska has no movies (unless you rent a digi player) and they now have food for purchase. So, they charge you more and give you nothing more for the price other than the non-stop feature.

We use Delta a lot. You really just have to check Delta's site everyday for the dates you are looking for. For Sept. I would assume you should be able to get tickets for $250 and under. This is value season for WDW. I would wait to purchase airline tickets unless you really want Alaska's non-stop.

wow...I would have LOVED that price...I'd fly red-eye for that! The price I found is not non-stop - it's thru Frontier Airlines. I do like flying Alaska though - but right now it's $400+ from either Seattle or Portland for my time period.

I'll just have to keep looking and watching! I gotta keep dh calm...he's eager to buy the tickets.

I would definitely keep on looking. You should be able to get tickets (if you time it right and have a little bit of airfare luck) for under $300. I ended up paying $328 for my upcoming flight on AA mainly because I was impatient and I needed to lock in our flights as early as possible so that we could use miles for upgrades (I'm doing a coach upgrade to first class on my ticket and we did a full mileage reward first class ticket for the DH - the cost for the 2 tickets ended up being just over $200 a piece). I know that if we were not trying to use miles, I could have gotten cheaper tickets by waiting just a little longer.

I would recommend that you sign up for fare alerts on the Alaska, American Airlines and whatever other airline you may be interested in flying websites. Alaska is pretty good about sending out alerts.

I tried to get the non stop price at around $200 and I found the cheapest is $400. We are looking for good airfare to go as well. We were planning to go into 2008 but if airfare is that cheap and I can swing it then I would love to go this year. Someone help me find that great deal at around $200.oo or 250 round trip. I would love a non stop flight. I checked at alsaka but I found $360 to be the cheapest. The dates are flexible. I have a party of 8 going so cheapest is the best!

We just got back last week and paid $257pp on Alaska. I am happy with anything in the $250-ish range pp. I would wait and see; watch daily and then jump when you see what you like. Last summer we flew PDX-TPA (we were getting a rental car anyways) and saved about $500 over what it would have been to fly out of Seattle.

When I bought the tickets for this past trip, everyone but Alaska was running the $257 fare. I had enough miles for one free trip, and I could not coordinate anything on NW, Delta or Continental even though I was totally flexible with my dates. Then a couple days later, Alaska joined in with the sale fares, and I easily found dates to match up with my free ticket. So hold on tight and keep checking!

Alaska Airlines non-stop from SEA. So, they charge you more and give you nothing more for the price other than the non-stop feature.

"Nothing more" ? From Seattle to Orlando a non-stop flight is a huge feature to me ~ definitely worth *a bit* extra!

One other note ..... Since Delta is an Alaska partner, Delta.com will also list the Alaska flights for you to purchase on their (Delta's) site. Every once in a while they will offer a better price than if you booked the exact same flight on Alaskaair.com. I recently flew a DC/Seattle round trip ~ booked the non-stop Alaska flights on Delta.com for $278 10 minutes after checking the same flights on Alaskaair.com & finding the price there was $546!!
