Seating in plane

Is there any particular advantage to seating in certain seats of the plane? I realize if you're going down - you're going down and seating doesn't seem to matter. Does anyone have a preference?

Reason I'm asking is we booked our airfare w/US Airways Express to PHL and our seats are in the last 2 rows but yet most of the plane is wide open w/the exception of first 2 rows. I can see why we're not in the exit door aisle w/3 young kids?

Should I complain? We have a 30 minute layover to get to our next flight & if we're in the way back - well - it seems like it would take a while to get out. Maybe thats why we're in the back so we don't have a lot of people behind us while we're trying to get all our stuff together and less people to bother. Does it matter? Any opinions? As always thanks!

The first several rows on many legacy carriers are reserved for elite members. On United, they have economy plus, with extra legroom. Only elites may reserve seats there; non-elites may purchase an upgrade to sit there.

Otherwise it's based on seats available plus personal preference. I haven't sat anywhere other than the first few rows in years because I fly so much; I do know that some families with kids like the back near the lavs. Note that on many carriers if you are in the front rows of Economy you still can't go forward through business/first class to use the lav; you must go to the back of the plane.

Over/behind the wing can be noisy.

Should you complain? No, why would you complain? Just call and ask for a different seat assignment if that's what you prefer.

JetBlue has the roomier seats at the back of their cabins. They're the only airline that works that way.

Children are prohibited by law from the exit door rows.

I would call and see if you can get moved up. 30 minutes in PHL is not much time for a connection.

Did you book online? If so, did you have an option to pick different seats?

We booked thru AAA and our TA tried to get us all relatively close together. I checked our flight schedule and actually we have a 45 minute layover - not sure if that makes much of a difference.

I would call up and ask to be moved forward on the plane. Particularly to get to your connection quickly. You are correct in that it will take longer to get off the plane the farther back you are. www.seatguru.com will give you some insight into particular seating on most planes. Good luck.
