Is there a proper etiquette for how parties should be seated at the Biergarten. I go with my 80 year old mother who has difficulty hearing conversation in the loud setting. It is easier if I am seated next to her and can help her if she is having trouble hearing. On one visit another couple got very upset with us because they wanted to sit across from each other and not have to sit across from us. What's your vote across from each other or next to each other for a party of 2?

I think you should be able to sit next to eachother if you wish to. Df and I sat next to one another on our last visit there and no one said a word. The couple across from us did the same. It was easier, I thought, for us to have our own conversations as well as conversations with them. And I sat between DF and the rail, so I didn't have to sit next to strangers (I'm kind of shy :upsidedow )

I don't know what's proper, but we sat next to each other w/ my oldest ds sitting across from us by the rail (he was really mad to sit next to a stranger  ). I thought sitting on one side with it being a buffet would be easier getting in and out. you would hate to bother the other people if you keep getting up. Me and my dh would also switch seats when the other one got up because my little one has serious stranger anxiety :scared: and would get upset if we were not right by him. So, I vote next to each other.:thumbsup2

I say however you wish. It's just my husband and me and we never sit next to each other, it's always across. So if we were to have to sit next to each other at the Biergarten, it would be a bit weird for us.

That being said, we have eaten at the Biergarten quite often. We take our lead from everyone else. If couples are sitting next to each other, that's how we sit. We prefer across from each other but we are sharing a table with six other people, usually with a family of four included in that six.

I think that other couple who got upset with you were rude and inconsiderate. You explained why you wanted to sit the way you did.

I really think that it should be however you like. It really makes me mad to hear that people get upset when they have to sit with others when they come to this place.

This restaurant is designed to flow exactly how it would in Germany...in their contry, this is how they do things- it's more like a "community table". Just be happy that China doesn't have it's version of a "nice sit down/authentic" restaurant- or EVERYONE would not only share the table, they'd eat from the same community bowl of foods!!! If people want the entire "german experiance" then, that is a part of it. We love this restaurant!

Last time we went there, there was a really craby old couple that sat at our large table and they complained the entire time...my hubby asked our waitress to re-seat them or us- because they had not started eating yet, they were reseated to a different table. It's an entire experiance- and people should enjoy it as it was ment to be enjoyed- sit how you wish I say!
